  • [4K] Haunted Mansion is a 2-Story classic dark ride at Funland Amusement Park in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. What makes this ride unique is the use of a suspended ride vehicle like what you see on Peter Pan's Flight Ride at Disneyland.
For info and operating hours, please visit their official website:

Ride filmed August 2022 at Funland in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Why are so many people saying this ride doesn’t have good theming? First you have a typical old haunted house hallway, which fits, then a balcony, then another haunted house room, with organ music, and monsters and ghosts, which also fits, then a whole area themed to a cave and mine, which my not? Is it not possible that a mansion could have an entrance to a mine? Maybe the owner could have been rich or something; Plus, that bookshelf secret passageway is so clever! Then, a graveyard area with MIST pumping in the air, then a balcony over the beach, because maybe the owner of the house built it over a beach; then a spider’s den area, then a whole room themed to skulls, then, after the skeleton with the hose, you have the devil distracting you so you get hit with the truck. Every room has a big overarching theme, so how can these people say that it’s disorganized?

The lighting and misdirection in this ride is actually pretty good! And it’s perfectly spooky in that comical way, doesn’t take itself seriously and arranges it’s (surprisingly many) assets in a well paced way. The overhead track is a nice touch too, and sidesteps the usual problem I have with more traditional haunted train rides, that being the transparently “zig zag” pathing.
I am sounding a little over analytical here because there’s a strange amount of slander on both sides of “this is bad vs this is great” argument. I think tempering expectations works wonders. Coherent stories require more budget, and more modern technology (realistic animatronics, high end speakers, specifically commissioned sets etc.) and as an older style dark ride I think this is perfectly charming. I’d go on it for a different reason than I would go on, say, JP/JW River Adventure

I love this ride I rode in in 2021. It's a great dark ride. I like it because it does not recycle scenes from horror movie. Well, almost the Wolfman and Frankenstein Monster are part of the ride. It does not jerk you around. The skull room rocks! The facade is great! I would not change a thing about this ride. I like that it mixes scary and funny. I would ride this again.

The thing that always gets me about rides like this is the lack of story. Like... when do you see skeletons and spiders and Frankenstein's monster clones teaming up? When does that happen in movies? Because it happens in _every_ single ride that seems to have the theme of "Generic Halloween Party Store."

    • @Dot_dot_dot891

Then you just proved that you do not know what a good dark ride is; you have no taste for good dark rides at all; what makes a dark ride good is the design, the imagination, the clever ideas and how they are implemented; In addition, these old haunted house dark rides, especially Bill Tracy ones, have way more brain power and effort put into them than most Halloween stores nowadays; not all rides need to have a story and scenes connected perfectly together to be good; you’re just an angry person, probably a Disney simp, that just jumps straight to conclusion and criticism without looking deeper and seeing the beauty of these rides; you have no right to say what you just said, and you insulted brilliant ride and attraction designers like Bill Tracy who worked almost his entire life, dedicating hard work on these kinds of rides and bringing his vision to life.

Because it's been that way for decades and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Kids won't have seen horror movies as a whole so wouldn't question the lore of a ghost train and for adults; these are designed to be silly, comical and over the top. Their randomness is part of the appeal and charm. They don't need a coherent story throughout, they need cheap laughs/scares, loud noises and flashing lights. I've never heard or read anyone complaining about the continuity in a classic ghost train. 🤣

I'll give it credit for being suspended and two story, especially when "climbing" the stairs, but a lot of the props and scenery were just "meh." Not sure how common they are, but A LOT of props and scenes seemed ripped straight from Knoebels (both their Haunted House and the Black Diamond). Am I missing something? Is this a temporary fair type thing? I'll let it slide on that, but those skeletons in the mine murals? Sheesh.
