After my cast iron has cooled, I remove any excess grease/food particles, then run it under hot water, scrubbing with a cast iron brush if necessary, then set it on a low burner to dry. Once dry, I add a dab of oil, and rub it down with a paper towel. Voila - ready to go!!
My grandma cut a lemon in half, dipped the cut half in salt, and scrubbed her cast iron pans to clean them; rinse with water and dry thoroughly. I still clean mine this way.
Brownie batter pudding- Vegan. Roast large orange type sweet potato in its skin till done,. let cool, place in bowl with tahini, salt, raw cacao powder, coconut oil, blend till smooth. tastes like brownie batter... eat like this or bake like brownies to crumble onto chia pudding with friut and coconut yogurt... this is heaven.
I used to be like you too but then realized that it is impossible to make everyone in your family happy and satisfied. There's always someone complaining about something. So I no longer enjoy cooking : (
For cast iron, cut a white potato in half, add some salt and use as a scrubber. Rinse with water, pat dry and immediately season with avocado, coconut or olive oil. It will out live everyone in your family.
Thank you so much, Dr. Mindy for all you do!❤ You have definitely changed the way I view food and the environment I live in! I have been doing your 30 day resets since last year September and have noticed a definite change in the way my hormones fluctuate. I have reached menopause during this time. I have almost every single one of your books as well and pre-ordered Eat Like a Girl which I’ve received just a couple days ago. I love how you laid the book out and the recipes inside look divine, however I have not yet made anything but plan to very soon! I was excited to find out that you put the 30 day reset omnivore and plant-based plans in the back. However, I was quite disappointed to read that you didn’t reference back to the page of the recipe so it’s quite a challenge to go back and try and find the recipe that goes along with the chart. I’ve already given up trying since it’s a lot of extra work. 😓
Once your avocado looks perfectly ripe , store it in the fridge and it will last about another week . So if you buy 2 or 3 or even a bad full you won’t waste them.
Loving you are going to have a food channel Dr Mindy and I’m glad Leann was your first guest. Love sweet potato and never thought about making nachos with them so thanks Leann ❤
Great show! Educational & entertaining. I'm fasting right now, day 2 of a 3 day fast. I look forward to trying these out when I'm in the 'eating lane' .
LOVE my cast iron! I use HOT WATER to loosen it all up then use a soft sponge to wipe it out. I’ll let it sit for about 30-an hour to loosen stuff. After I dry it, I put a little avocado oil on a paper towel and wipe the skillet out. Shiny and new each time. If I feel it needs it, I’ll put it in the oven for 2 hours at 250 degrees, that way it helps the seasoning work best. What do you use for pots? Cast iron? I have Caraway, but looking into cast iron pots.
Wash it out so it's clean.. and dry thoroughly, wipe it down with the oil of your choice and then bake your cast iron pan at 400 degrees for at least 30 minutes. That way it is sealed and the cast iron is dried completely through. Hope that helps. Ps the longer you bake it the better
Cleaning the cast iron, clean with hot water (No soap). I use baking soda for stubborn foods. After I dry it, I immediately use grapeseed oil on a paper towel and wipe the oil around the skillet and then put it away.
I always wash my cast iron pan in water after gently scraping it with a wooden spatula to remove any food that has stuck, I try not to use soap... I soak it a few minutes if it needs it,, after wasing it I dry it well, and rub oil on it before putting it away. Thank you for the recipes! Look forward to seeing more. X Vivienne
Love it! Love the cooking channel. Would love more vegetarian/plant based progesterone building recipes for post menopausal women PLEASE 🙏 . would also love some advice/ideas on how to manage the eating window when on the road/travelling most of the time (remote parts of SE Asia) and most things like avocados, berries, avocado oil, pumpkin/sunflower seeds, etc aren't readily available. I'm okay with fasting longer hours but Dr Mindy says post menopausal women need to eat well during the eating window. Would love to know how post menopausal women manage when travelling. Thank you
As a country girl I need to clarify all beef is grass fed, cattle cannot live on grain alone and grain is usually given to finish fattening them up. Grass fed grass finished is never fed grain
I am way too excited for this cooking show 😂😊, those meals looked absolutely delicious ❤ With my cast iron, I scrub with hot water only, then I put into the oven on high for about 10-15 minutes to dry/season, I went down a rabbit hole of research on cast iron care a few years ago, and this was the cleaning routine I landed on, it works brilliantly.
thanks for these great recipes. i use a quality salt to clean my cast iron. rinsing with hot water and thoroughly drying them even if it means back on the stove top or in the oven for a few. please know they sell stainless steel scrubbing and lint free cloths for cleaning cast iron. some people clean their cast iron with salt and scrubbing it with a half lemon. it's especially easy if your cast iron is well seasoned. which should occasionally be done with a great quality oil from avocado to bacon to flaxseed to a tallow. we are what we eat. continued blessings. 🕊
I wash my cast iron pans as well. I think that old food and oil is more damaging to health if it’s not washed off and is oxidized. I put hot water and scrub it with a brush or a sponge depending on how food is stuck. I used to boil water and everything breaks up and then wash and dry. I have even used salt as an abrasive and it doesn’t hurt the seasoning. I put it on the stove and add some coconut oil over heat and I feel like that sets the oil in. My cast iron pans look great and work great. Also, I use Redmond’s sea salt and course Celtic sea salt
Home made chimi churri 3 bunches of Cilantro, Siracha Sauce 1 large bottle, 3 heads of garlic, and Avocado oil to keep from drying out. Keep in refrigerator.
Hi Dr Mindy, so glad you decided to have a cooking show. We need to learn how to prepare the meals to help keep the weight off. Thanks so much again! Can you also prepare plant based meals please? Thank you!
I used to hat cilantro but really love it now 💚💚 This video was so much fun to watch and had a lot of Information for me ! I shared it with my daughter in law who had just asked me for some healthy recipes 😜 thank you !!! 🩷
I make this often and yes we call it Jacked potato 😅 Try adding avocado or guacamole as topping and sour cream or yoghurt. It takes it to another level ❤
Use a steel scrub brush to clean the cast-iron. Dry it quickly over the fire. Then recondition with tallow and rub in. Few times a year you’ll have to re-condition in a very hot oven.
I remember signing my name next to hers, backstage at the Rosenberg Opry! I thought it was cool my voice teacher back then (Jane Turner) had taught her some when young, too. 🥰 I was a big fan growing up. Thanks for sharing the recipes!
I don't like green peppers either, Mindy, but like you I like the other colors really well. Go girl! Love that you're doing cooking shows. Keep on! Re: cast iron pans...love them. I never scrub my seasoned pans but do wash with soapy water to get the food chunks off. It's just fine and works well. Thanks for a great vid.
Yea dr Mindy more cooking videos love it thank u for sharing! Excited to see more, perfect marriage of info fun and pragmatism! @7:12 peppers help u detox, @12:50 thx for clarifying on himilayan salt, @14:00 grass fed y it’s better; perfect examples, love this! & Sweet potatoes r one of my favs, cool to see a new way to do them! Wor-ches-ches-ter we love trying to say that too
The best way to clean cast iron is salt. I let it soak a minute then clean it with rock salt or kosher salt. After you wash it out put it back on the stovetop and let it get hot, turn it off put avocado oil with a paper towel, and store when cool :)
No soap on my cast iron. If something gets stuck on, I partially fill it with water and put it back on the burner and let it simmer for a few minutes. It usually wipes clean after that. Just like deglazing while cooking.
This was great!!. Love both you ladies. I use French Celtic sea salt by 82 Minerals. I need to start throwing my plastics away and start using my cast iron skillet;)
That was fun! So much diet culture leads us to believe sweet potatoes are “bad” and hormone killers. I am so happy to eat them again soon with grass fed butter, Redmonds salt and cinnamon.
I scrub my castiron with salt. Finish with water, and dry on a burner or in oven, then wipe on a little oil to protect it from humidity between uses. Once a year re-season it by rubbing with palm oil and bake in low oven, upside-down to let excess oil drip off. If you use soap, not only does it kill the seasoned finish but castiron absorbs soap. Over time the build up of soap will taint the flavor of the food.
Thanks for this video! I am excited to see what's next. (To my ear, the audio was a little difficult to hear. Perhaps turn down the background music?) I'll watch it again on my TV and maybe that will help. Either way, thanks so much!!!
Loved this! I actually make delicious brownies with mashed sweet potatoes instead of flour, and I use MCT oil and cacao powder, and maple syrup in them too... try it!
Dear Dr. Mindy, I have thrown out all my plastic containers but still have plastic bags ( some composable) tin foil (aluminum) and plastic wrap…what are you using as substitutes as my fridge can get full with glass containers 😆 thanks!
"Seasoning" isn't necessarily for flavor. It's to make it non-stick by having the oils build over time. Washing it every time, degreasing it with soap, is not necessarily wrong but the pan has to be "seasoned" again every time. When there's particularly stuck on food, boiling water & vinegar deglaze while the pan is hot will lift all that (maybe with a scrape), but it also needs to be reseasoned. Think about it, the oil is protecting the iron from rust & moisture in the air & making the pan nonstick (to use less oil during cooking). Washing it every time without properly reseasoning can shorten the life of the pan by leaving it prone to oxidization & rust that might not even be visible right away. A well seasoned pan can be wiped out thoroughly and put away without extra washing & seasoning steps. It can use less oil during cooking. And it could last for over 50 years properly cared for. ❤️♾️❤️
I would love to see research about microwaves killing nutrition. I've been skeptical of microwaving for some time, but can't find reliable data to back to prove much one way or another.
Cowboy Kent Rollins has great videos about how to take care of your cast iron! Hot pan, hot water, re-season every time. No soap! Not paper towel. Since I started taking care of my cast iron it basically is non-stick without the toxicity of Teflon!
I would be really interested to hear why you feel that microwaves destroy food?....studies I have looked at say the opposite? A Harvard Health report said " microwave cooking is actually one of the least likely forms of cooking to damage nutrients. Thats because the longer food cooks, the more nutrients tend to break down, and microwave cooking takes less time"... .So I'm a bit confused?...could you maybe do a video on it Dr Mindy please? X Vivienne
I thought I loved purple and sweet potatoes...but Saladino has me questioning them? Have you seen all of the people who've healed their myriad of health issues by getting all of the oxalates out of their diet. 😥It is so hard to know what's right. Also, you're both adorable and I really enjoy watching these kinds of things!
Avocado hack 🥑
Once ripe, submerge in water and put in the fridge. It will last until you use it. Life changing!
After my cast iron has cooled, I remove any excess grease/food particles, then run it under hot water, scrubbing with a cast iron brush if necessary, then set it on a low burner to dry. Once dry, I add a dab of oil, and rub it down with a paper towel. Voila - ready to go!!

Same. :)

And if you only use half, leave the pit in the other half and wrap it in plastic REAL TIGHT so no air gets in.
@whygohome172 and I rub lemon on that leftover half before I wrap it.

CAST IRON:
Even Lodge came out and said a little soap doesn’t hurt! Just make sure to dry and grease it when you’re done!

Some pink salt, has coloring. You have to make sure it's pure and organic.

The best way to clean cast iron is salt. I let it soak a minute then clean it with rock salt or kosher salt. After you wash it out put it back on the stovetop and let it get hot, turn it off put avocado oil with a paper towel, and store when cool :)

I love chips. The crunch. Now I eat dehydrated sweet potatoes and yams . I slice them thin and they dry to a great crunch. No more chips
Hehehe. I’m from the UK and it’s “Woos-ter” sauce! That was adorable!!
😄
I was always taught to pronounce it “worstesher”
👍
Thanks for clarifying this ; )
No soap on my cast iron. If something gets stuck on, I partially fill it with water and put it back on the burner and let it simmer for a few minutes. It usually wipes clean after that. Just like deglazing while cooking.
👍
This was great!!. Love both you ladies. I use French Celtic sea salt by 82 Minerals. I need to start throwing my plastics away and start using my cast iron skillet;)
I use dish soap & metal chain scrubber when cleaning my Smithey cast iron! 😊
👍
I do use metal chain scrubbers as well - work great!
Thank you so enjoyed this 👍
🙏👩🍳
That was fun!
So much diet culture leads us to believe sweet potatoes are “bad” and hormone killers. I am so happy to eat them again soon with grass fed butter, Redmonds salt and cinnamon.
Sound so delish 😋 and great for hormones!
👍
Celtic sea salt is a good electrolyte balance and aids in digestion, Celtic sea salt has a bit more edge to lower sodium but higher trace mineral
