Just returned from a trail session at a War Memorial in Airdrie Scotland. Thank you for the tips I've put them to good use my friend. Happy festive season to you and loved ones and all good fortune for 2023.
Currently living in japan and bought a canon kiss x10i, pictures like these have been a huge inspiration for me buying a camera. Cant wait to go shoot some of these out in Japan!
Those images were superb, but I have to be honest, when that last one faded to black and white, wow, that really was just the icing on the cake - great video.
Super nice. I guess that long exposures make everything looking 100 times better. You would never think that the highway can be so nice. As for being safe at night - a fellow photographer was attacked in Glasgow a few weeks ago and all his gear was stolen. It's a real shame. So you need to be careful.
done this many times but enjoy a refreshing ! wish there were cooling towers & power stations being used in my area . using the light trails as leading lines to an industrial complex is slammin !
hi Gary, just found your channel [and subbed], i am just starting with photography and loved this video and how easy it looked doing the light trails,i live just around the corner from this location and will be going there to give it a try ,thank you just going to binge watch a shed load of your videos
Thanks for the tutorial. I just retired and am taking up photography. I’ve enjoyed taking shots with my iPhone. I’ve upgraded with a more serious camera. My first shot of skyline was a success. I will use this to prepare my 2nd photo shoot from a similar vantage here in Hawaii where I live. Very excited to see the results. Thanks for your guidance.
Back in the 1970 s I used to get some fantastic results in Sheffield City centre at night. Of course we only had film then and a night exposure calculator which was a cardboard contraption to calculate the apature and shutter speed. The photos of the City Hall with light trails in front of it gave the image a three dimensional look and of course the multi coloured Goodwin Fountain that then existed by the Town Hall. I like the starburst effect you got in your pictures, we used to use a filtre for those. I have to say that I haven't tried long exposure night shots with digital but Devon is a very dark and boring place at night. Well done for finding a worthwhile location.
A friend of mine did this and someone phoned the police as they thought he was going to jump. The police turned up and had a chat to him and was ok with what he was doing but they gave him a bit of advice to ring the police when he was going to do this again and let them know so if someone phoned up they will know what you are there for and not waste their time in turning up. Great photos Gary.
Stunning images Gary. Love a long exposure light trail / star burst photos. Also the blurry skies are terrific :-) Keep safe when out that late. Richie x
Ive done exactly this type of shot with the road leading to a sugar factory which is local to me but i've also taken some shots with trains for the light trails and what was Battersea power station as the backdrop with some really cool results especially at f22.
Excellent! Perfect timing, as I was already planning to do a night time light trail session, but now I'm going to have to find an S bend .... cheers! Maybe a round a bout!!
Thanks Gary, I didn’t dislike that building to the right. Was it even there from your earlier video a few years ago - I don’t remember it? I did some light trails on a small road in winter with snow banks on either side of the road. The challenge there was waiting for a vehicle in each direction at more or less the same time to get both headlights and tail lights. Surprisingly, that didn’t happen very often on that road. The road also had a nice S-curve, so worked well in the end and I had no buildings to contend with, just some trees and snow banks on both sides.
Cracking video Gary, once again you break the technical aspects of photography down to a level that can be understood by the masses. Great dedication by the way too, that was a late night, we appreciate it.
Thanks Gary for another great tutorial and spectacular images! If I'd driven along there and spotted you on the bridge the first thing I would have done was check my speedometer
What a fantastic tutorial, thank you very much. You're way of explaining and making it even more enjoyable. Again, thank you for sharing most valuable tips.
Ive done these. I turned it black and white but left the colour of the light trails while the rest of the image was black and white. The effect was awesome.
Nice video Gary, i have been to this location many times, even captured it when the power station was working, i think the rest of the power station is coming down this August.
Thanks Gary. I really enjoyed joining you on the shoot. Great tips and explanations. Minor point but perhaps emphasizing 'why' you selected 2" self-timer to avoid/reduce camera shake. Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it. I really appreciated seeing a couple of your favourite photos, love the tower lights!. My favourite F32, ISO 100 at 240 seconds for the combo of the tower lights/starbursts and night sky I did chuckle though as you spent all your time talking about the horrible building to the right so you went to 'portrait, but then during the shoot your were back in landscape talking about that 'bad' building :-) Night time is great it seems but as mentioned, in the winter months an early morning shoot would also work, especially for those of us living in the northern latitudes. Love the enthusiasm.
Excellent presentation. In a few days well have a rocket launch here in central FL at midnight. Ill take some long exposure pic Im a small guy but I carry a big gun to even the odds
Your reminding me more & more of the great Mike Brown - myth busting with a straight foreward approach - showing how to do things instead of blathering on. He was a master at it and so are you Gary. Here on Anglesey we cant get that kind of elevation, but doing the Suspension Bridge traffic gives some great results. Great vid and images Gary - big thumbs up.
Hi Gary - How do you "activate the bulb timer"? Great video that I've watch quite a few times but I don't know how you extends the shutter speed beyond 30 seconds
Good tip,s Gary, looking forward to useing live compasite on OMD Mk1, for lightening forecast for next 3 day,s, takes a base Exp then add,s only new movement/light frame by frame for hr,s if necessary, without over exposure.Diff to capture thunderstorm,s a breeze with this, metal tripod a bit dodgy thou?
Great video Gary, I remember the video you done there last time, bit out of the way for me that but I’m 5 minutes from the M61 near the Bolton Wanderers Stadium which I’m sure you’ve passed many times. Been a while since I’ve done any Light Trails, mainly down to having my driving license revoked last year after being diagnosed with Sleep Apnoea, DVLA have had my application since the 6th January after being told I can drive again but still waiting, took them 4 months to send a form out. Still found the tips very worthwhile as I’m going to be doing some Wire Wool Photography soon, just waiting for a night I’m not too knackered and also with a nice moon
I've never seen you look or sound more enthusiastic. This style is so underrated, you should do more like this. Fantastic images Gary
One of the best explanations about how light comes into your camera!
Cheers 👍👍
You can’t beat a fantastic light trails Gary
Cheers John 👍👍
@@GaryGough you need to do more light trails again Gary
I quite like the lit up building.... Fantastic video... Thank Gary
Your passion for photography really shows, it is very infectious! Very enjoyable watch, please do more!! 😄😄
I loved seeing the trails turn to a black and white. I loved the explanation.
Just returned from a trail session at a War Memorial in Airdrie Scotland. Thank you for the tips I've put them to good use my friend. Happy festive season to you and loved ones and all good fortune for 2023.
Oh wow, I love the double layer of lights you get from the lorries. B&W is awesome
This is the most informative and best video on night trails that I have seen. Thanks. Now to go out and try it.
Cheers 👍
Currently living in japan and bought a canon kiss x10i, pictures like these have been a huge inspiration for me buying a camera. Cant wait to go shoot some of these out in Japan!

Excellent photography!!!! Thank you for making this video!

They are just stunning 👏 📸 👍 photos
Wow,Thats so cool, love that effect stunning. What camera did you shoot it on.

Hi Gary, a nice set of pictures the one I liked the most was the black and white at the end.
The black and white one surprised me, but it works!! Well done!
Cheers Rich 👍👍

Light trails are just so much fun
I’m going out to try light trail photography and have found this video useful, some great photos and I even liked the black and white version.
Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Amazing photos, I bought a Nixon P1000 in 2018, still getting use to it. But def having a go at attempting light trails. Best wishes.
love the black and white one, thanks for the education
Really like the last photo the best, the colour version

@@GaryGough I don’t FB anymore Gary I got stuck in that trap of taking pictures for social media rather than taking pictures for myself
Gary, great images, as usual. I was not expecting a B&W image to be displayed, and it certainly had a wow factor all its own!

Colour image before the B&W, I think is best. Second pick would be the first image. Great video!
Cheers Greg 👍👍
Beautiful shots. Have you ever done this with a major airport in the background?
I haven't no but that's a great idea. Cheers 👍👍
Great shots as usual Gary and the B&W looks fabulous as well 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

simply perfect. Enjoyed it and will try it soon

Enjoyed this tutotrial. Nice ideas for the creative content
So simple yet so effective, I always think the back drop is important in this type of image, the power station works really well
Cheers Rich 👍👍
Light trails are fun to do. You made it easy to understand. My fave image was the 2nd from last (just before the mono version).
One word Gary.....Stunning.

Great video and images, makes a nice change from the usual landscape photography 📷👍
