my friend has a messy apartment like that. Counters overflowing with dirty dishes, weird smells coming from fridge and garbage, piles of clothes in the bathroom, clumps of hair in the corners, crusty sink, it's disgusting. but she's my friend and she's dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD on top of chronic pain and i don't judge her. I can't clean for her but she appreciates when i'm there with her, putting on music and conversing while she's scrubbing pans and pots.
I find this chic super relatable and an inspiration! She is getting thru to me when nothing else has. I have read many books, attended therapy and tried meds. Turns out I'm not depressed, just overweight and experiencing menopause. Her suggestions seem completely doable and that gives me hope. Thank you for your videos Nichole.
The worst time in my life was when I was recovering from cancer surgery (double mastectomy) and then my husband died. I had to move to Maine and lived therefor 2 years, I hated it! Then came the pandemic. An excuse for not leaving the house. yay! I have to confess Weeks went by without a shower or changing my sheets. Ate all my meals in bed, which was just a mattress on the floor.. I was totally depressed. Finally I got help and moved back to Kansas. I'm better now, but it takes time to feel human again.
100% agree. Like, I don't understand girls that go on crazy diets before a big event such as their wedding or prom etc. Like, don't you want to look hot all of the time? Does the rest of the time not matter? Don't you want to feel good about yourself all of the time? Don't you want to actually honor your body by eating healthy and exercising and not starving yourself temporarily only to gain it all back after the event? I also don't understand new year's resolutions. Don't you want to be the best all of the time? If there is something that you want to improve on, change it now, not because of the time of the year.
The reason people don’t clean their house is because inside they feel like shit, happens to me all the time, as soon as I m feeling better, I start to feel grossed out and I clean my place
SO true, all of this! When I was single, I was always annoyed by how many people questioned why I cooked nice, simple meals for myself every day. My female coworkers and friends told me that if they were in my situation, and did not have a family to cook for, they would likely go home from work and eat a bowl of cold cereal for dinner each day. I told them if they actually did that, they would probably feel like crap and get sick of it really quick, but is was such a shock to me that they would even think this way. People undervalue themselves where it counts, and then they try to make up for it by buying expensive things ( clothing, cars, houses, cell phones, etc.) that do not improve their lives, just to look good for others. It's like they want to look valuable, but they don't truly feel valuable.
Same happened to me. My friend does't understand why I make all the effort to cook a nice meal for myself. she also thinks that eating alone must be a sad affair. Funny thing is when she eats a meal with her partner, she doesn't like it when he puts himself a bigger portion on his plate than her or he gets the left overs before she has finished her own dinner, so there is nothing left for her even if she is not hungry anymore. This is what we call in German "Futterneid". Well, at least I don't have to share my nice meal and don't need to fret over who is getting to finish of the left overs.
Have the exact same experience. When they come to my house, they're like "Wow, you have nice furniture. Wow, your house is clean" as if I should live in a dump and not make my house a home because I'm single.
This is SO TRUE! I shower and dress every day, and my house HAS to be clean. I don't do it for anyone else, but myself. It makes ME feel happy to live in a clean and organized home! I also love to cook. I do it for my husband and for myself when he is at work. And my kitchen MUST be clean to cook. I even clean as I go so we can eat and not have a mess to clean up afterward. I'm old enough to be your mom, but I love your videos and learn a lot from them!!
As someone who grew up and unfortunately still lives in a highly dysfunctional family, this is probably THE best advice I’ve ever heard in my whole life. Thank you, for real
This video really motivated me to change some things in my life. Since covid started I have not been getting dressed, eating right, or cleaning my home. Your video has given me the spark I needed to get off the couch and do something. Thank you. By the way, I love your channel.
This is by far the most enlightening video I ever saw on RUclips. You struck a great point. Growing up, I was always taught and told to be my better self when I am going out meeting people, when I was asked to put on my better clothes, wash my shoes, etc. And the worst comment I got often was how can you show yourself like this to people which is so embarrassing. And we are always rushing to clean our home when someone else is visiting. I literally thought this was the way to live: shine up to the world, and never bother about it when alone. I guess I was trained to care too much about how people see me than how I feel. Thanks for your excellent point. You really blown me awake.
I feel like you could see me laying on my couch with my phone on my chest 😮😅 I agree. I love my house neat clean organized. It makes me so happy to walk in the door at the end of the day or walk out in the morning and see everything exactly the way I like it. And I too live alone so I do it for me, you are wise beyond your years my friend have a peaceful, tranquil day.❤
Great point Nicole, but please remember that sometimes it is a sign of depression that people do not do these basic things. I speak from experience. Love your content and wisdom, thanks!
That is right. I know people with depression and they have untidy homes. I also have periods where I neglect my household and sometimes don't care about my appearance, if I hit a bad time.
I used to know a girl that when i go into her apartment, she was putting makeup up on, dressing nice, and have candles it was lit, and she was alone! I just called her 2 minutes ago to come and give her sth( we live same building) now thinking about it, I think that was really nice to see.
My husband and I cleaned up my family home that was a hoarding mess when my father died, mom was in a nursing home and my 53 year old brother finally left to get medical help he needed. This was a disheartening and upsetting task that took about two months. I have come to the conclusion that my family suffered from mental health issues. Only disturbed people would live in a literal trash dump that it was. Doing this has given me more freedom to declutter things around me. My brother’s inappropriate behavior in 2014 kept me from visiting with my parents. I guess he wanted to keep me away because I would have called Adult Protective Services. They got called anyway in 2016 when paramedics had to take my mom away and someone reported the bad living conditions.
How sad for you all. Mental health issues are all around us, having a profound effect on our family members. I sincerely hope you have come to terms a little better now. We can only do our best. Be well.
I’m obsessed with your content. Ever since your video of why you are living frugal was recommended to me a few days ago, I’ve been watching some more content of yours and immediately subscribed to your channel. You have no idea how much of your tips, way of living and habits are helping me right now (been feeling a little lost lately). This gives me so much motivation. Thank you 🤍 Keep doing what you’re doing and much love from Germany 🇩🇪
I work from home, but I get up and get dressed to get ready for the day. You never know what the day will bring but I’m always ready for it. Side note, when I first started working from home I tried the work in my pajamas thing but I discovered that when I stayed in my pajamas I was completely unproductive. This is when I learned to get dressed every day.
I totally agree with you. Being retired, I don't have to be all dressed up from early morning. I do like to have my coffee and take my time; but after an hour or so I will take a shower and get dressed. My home is always neat and tidy, although I might do a little more in terms of cleaning when I expect visitors. But then surely I enjoy it more myself too. My grownup daughters smile at me saying for instance: Mom never leaves her home without putting on lipstick. Even for a walk in the forest nearby where we won't meet anybody! This is kind of silly, but on the other hand I use almost no makeup apart from my lipstick. Even though I live alone, I always make real nice and healthy meals for myself. I think everybody should show themselves so much respect in all aspects of their lives. I am a big fan of your videos which I discovered recently. You are a very wise, young woman. From a danish woman living in Denmark.
I totally agree with you. I don't understand how many people are very well dressed outside whereas their houses are quite a mess. Your video hit the nail on the head: they do that for other people not for themselves.
I am disabled with a learning disability congestive heat failure and type 2 diabetes and I have an I.Q tested from a state examiner of 67 and I never shower at the same time any given day, I have mild Asperger's and Autism and the way I am seen and treated makes it hard to live with a positive attitude. I am still under contract from 9 years old to today with Operations the electromagnetic radiation experiments part of the Montauk project 1974 to 1976. My name when in super format in McQuendo
I’m on the verge of obsessive when it comes to being clean personally, I could never wear the same pants as I would outdoors though. I feel that jeans and pants feel icky after lounging around in them so I’ll wear sweatpants, but they feel far too casual to wear out. The point about not just wearing your boxers in the house though is so true, I always find it weird when people say they don’t bother wearing pants around the house.
Yep, i second your thoughts on hygene. Even when i was sick like a dog with covid, i made an effort to take showers daily, so i can feel at least somewhat like myself.
I definitely relate to this. Last year I was sick for a day, I had flu or something, and I got up and showered and got dressed, and my wife said, "What are you doing? Stay in bed", and I told her, that makes me feel worse. If I don't bathe, I feel like a greasy minger. Same with folding laundry, my wife laughs and says why, nobody is going to see it, and I say because I'm not doing it for anybody else, I'm doing it for me, I want clothes and towels etc to be neat and organised. Routine is what makes my life possible.
I`m laying here sick and gross but after watching this I`m gonna get up and uncrumb. My house is o.k but I`m an absolute horror show! You are a cutie and very smart and entertaining.I needed to hear this! And I love your beautiful dog!
I agree with you about hygiene, home care and preparing healthy meals. The pandemic didn't put a stop to any of that for me. If anything I think I started spending more time in the kitchen because that time was not being used for commuting. I also noticed that once the gyms opened back up everyone that was so fit had all let themselves go. It was shocking to me how big some people had become. ( I stayed away for 15 months but still exercised and maintained myself with fitness at home.) This goes with what you were saying about people doing things with their appearance to please others and not really doing it for themselves.
Well I'm watching this while washing the dishes 😂. You made me feel good by saying all of these. I totally agree. First you should be clean in your head only for yourself.
I cook and clean ( for me ) becauße it works I feel happier because it shows eveveryone including myself that I can feel good about the acomplishment (s) that are made thouout the day Pets also like to live in a clean House / Room because it shows them that they also are loved
This video is hitting me hard, and it’s definitely a good thing. I’ve been spending the first week of this new year decluttering and cleaning the ever-loving heck out of my house, and trying to take better care of myself too. I started working from home last year and have found it easy to sink into being a lazy lump of garbage and not taking care of everything (including myself) to a high standard. I’m ready to change that. Thanks for this.
Awwwe Levi dozing - such a relaxed and happy doggy. During lock down in UK cleaning house, a set time to get up, a set day and time to vudeo call folks etc became a routine which stopped me getting down ( I live alone). I always get dressed and clean each day. It's a matter of self respect.
I do agree that feeling good is also about looking after your well being in cleanliness and tidiness. For example, even when I am not expecting to see anyone I still get up and after breakfast, take a shower, brush my teeth, do my hair, put on a little moisturiser and make up and select a nice dress or skirt and top to wear. I even wear stylish (but comfy) shoes and wear a nice bracelet. Alright then yes, I am a man...but I don't care what others think...I do it for me...not for anyone else.
omg.... am sitting on my bed working from home ---- 2pm - - just got around to taking my shower been on calls since 7am.... you are soooooooooooo right....
Nicole I love your vids. The information is enlightening and motivational. Other than the valuable content, what I really find pleasant is how quickly you get to the points of your message rather than ramble on for 5 minutes about nothing like so many other RUclipsrs of similar subjects do. Thank you for your promptness and not wasting out time.
Thank you for this eye opening video. This one really resonated with me. I suffer from depression and anxiety and for the last few months I’ve been falling into this lack of self care rut. I know everything you said is true and at the back of my mind I’ve known it all along. My husband has been telling me for weeks to start taking better care of myself. It made me angry at him for trying to tell me what to do. Hearing it from you, someone who also suffers from depression, it somehow made me take a good look at what I’ve been doing to myself. It made me feel good to know it’s within me to make a change. It’s almost 9pm and I’m going to take a shower 😊 I know it’s not going to wash away (pun intended) all the sadness and anxiety but it’s a start. Thank you!
There are people who are wired to be very attuned to and concerned about their physical environment and there are many people who aren’t. It’s not necessarily whether they feel better when things are neat and clean, it’s just that it’s not even on their radar. There are other things they care about much more. If it meant a lot to the person with the really messy house than their house wouldn’t be messy, they would clean it because they valued it being clean. Of course their could be depression or something involved. I know you said you weren’t meaning to be judgmental but it does come of a bit judgmental
I live alone now and have come to the realization that the untidiness I used to complain about wasn't entirely someone else's fault. It's amazing how much clutter I can produce just putting together a simple toasted tomato sandwich. Time to smarten up!
I always felt that way when I heard people say they don't bother cooking since they don't have anyone to cook for. Like what about yourself? It always made me a bit sad. Edit: oh you mention cooking too lol
That was an awesome video! It really opened my eyes and mind, very good points, I’m going to take care of myself better than before and I’m doing this for me! Thank you!😊
TRUTH 🙌 i’m far from perfect but some people’s homes that I’ve been are straight nasty and you dont want to be rude so you just have to grin and bear it as a guest. 🙃 and yes, it makes me sad for them. so it’s really just overall ‘not a vibe’.
If you do exercise (or not) you have to wash or you feel gross. Might wear sweats or shorts around the house for a couple of hours but that's it or I can't get it together. I have to have my one room of chaos but I do a lot of projects, it's not dirty but definitely chaotic looking to others, there's a logic and order to it to me, the rest of the house is immaculate. Wouldn't do a zoom call in the room of chaos.
Oh, that’s true. But I am so in love with my pijamas😅Last time when I was thinking about if I need to buy new clothes (after moving to another country I didn’t have a lot with me), I have realised that YES, I need new pijama to have a spare 😂😅
ALL the pajama love over here, I have like 20 pairs haha. I dress up for work outside the home (not suits, but trendy clothing and lots of dresses), so when I am at home for more than 1 hr or home to stay for the evening I'm ALWAYS in pajamas. I have to be clean, face & body, and my home is clutter free. But I love being in some coordinated cozy pjs, for me that makes it easier to any moment clean, nap, do yoga...it's absolute comfort. I get the Stars Above pj sets from Target and they have lasted me years. It's also great when traveling to have them in my bag and feel as comfy in the hotel room as I do at home.
Hi Nicole. Enjoy your comments about your self contained life and agree on your strength of character it is your safety net and mental security. You put pressure on yourself in every way. Hang loose and chill more. Let others carry you sometimes and be nursed and occasionally. Skip more and take a break from steering. I am retired enjoy being in the slower lane set daily targets but take time to play. Loveya paula
OMG, someone said it. I've had the same thoughts about the hygiene memes. For years I've actually put more effort into hygiene and grooming for a day at home than for a day out because it's just comfortable and won't get ruined by sweating in hot weather or otherwise getting the grime of the outside world on me.
Thank you Nicole! I needed to hear this. I have major depression and I slip into self isolation and let myself and my environment go for the entirety of the last 3 years. I started coming out of it slowly this last summer. I'm still heading towards health and am doing better. Mental health issues account for quite a bit of this type of behavior and I know you weren't being a butthole about that. Some people just kinda let things slide over time and its not a mental health issue. And even if it is a mental health issue, the way you speak about this, the words and tone are compassionate and a little funny. Respectful not disparaging. Thank you 😁
Yeah, I’ve never been able to understand why anyone would choose to not shower daily as well as brush their teeth and hair, etc. It’s basic hygiene and I’d feel absolutely gross if I didn’t do these things everyday. It don’t really understand the pants thing, either. Just wear comfortable pants. 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you so so so much for this video I am a mom with four kids but I forgot what it was like to take care of myself and value myself as a person this video helped remind me thank you I love your vids and I put a like in this video 💕😊
Hello, Nicole! Thank You very much for all your great advice on money, self-care, and many more! Continue such an excellent job helping people learn to live a better life, and making better decisions for better future. Great Job!
I remember some of my friends mocked me for wearing classier clothes and why do I bother with good looking clothes when I was single. To this day I never understood what was going on in their heads. Maybe it was crazy for those former friends that wearing something nice is for yourself and not for others.
When we clean our bodies, clothes and home we feel so much better!
why do you have this odd hairstyle? its ugly. i feel sorry for you.
Agree.
my friend has a messy apartment like that. Depression is real for some though. If no-one visits a depressed person, they have no motivation to spruce themselves and their home up. 😢
@@johenderson3742SOOOOO TRUE !!! ❤❤

You had legitimate reasons. You weren't just being lazy. I'm so sorry for your loss, pr. God bless you.
Goodness, I'm glad you are doing better now.
100% agree. Like, I don't understand girls that go on crazy diets before a big event such as their wedding or prom etc. Like, don't you want to look hot all of the time? Preach girl, preach.
Wise words. Having self respect and keeping your house clean for yourself is critical.
The reason people don’t clean their house is because inside they feel like shit, happens to me all the time, as soon as I m feeling better, I start to feel grossed out and I clean my place

You are hysterical! I love all your videos!!!

❤Thank you for your tips and advice. I enjoy your straightforward talks. ❤ I am a subscriber.
I am with you, personal hygiene everyday or I can’t stand myself
Awwwe Levi dozing - such a relaxed and happy doggy. During lock down in UK cleaning house, a set time to get up, a set day and time to vudeo call folks etc became a routine which stopped me getting down ( I live alone). I always get dressed and clean each day. It's a matter of self respect.
Self love. When you are accountable to yourself because it should matter to you. I love your videos. Telling people the truth matters.
How to find a girl like Nicole. To marry? You're the best, Nicole!
The brilliance of this video keeps rising as it plays... especially at the @9:06 minute mark. Blown away.
As I have said before… you are a wise woman! ❤️
So on point ❤️
omg.... am sitting on my bed working from home ---- 2pm - - just got around to taking my shower been on calls since 7am.... you are soooooooooooo right....
What a fabulous and very amusing video. I had no idea people were like this!!!! I thought everyone had a sense of pride....
Well said. It's all a mind set. Beginning with making your bed. Just gets the day started on the right foot.
You are absolutely unlike the majority of people. It is so refreshing. Nobody keeps a clean house, or even bothers to clean themselves. It's awful.
I just love your content so much. You're wise beyond years. I'm 40 and only just learning this now!
Thank you!
💜💜💜💜💜💜
I really like the vision of taking yourself on a date. Love this.
Great video and so truthful. I love my home and myself to be tidy everyday.
I live alone now and have come to the realization that the untidiness I used to complain about wasn't entirely someone else's fault. It's amazing how much clutter I can produce just putting together a simple toasted tomato sandwich. Time to smarten up!
Same and it helped kept me sane during lockdown 😂
Thank you for the message.
your channel is refreshing!🕊️
You make good habits sound like a normal thing. That's how it should be, thanks for your content !
If you visit someone and their house is nasty check in on their mental health
Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
Different strokes for different folks. Great content!! ❤️
Others really are not paying that much attention to me. My dear mother taught me that.
Affirming and confirming... Thank YOU!!!!
This message really hit home - I have a lot to think about and come to terms with. Thank you.
I did indeed get up and do some cleaning, very inspirational.
OMG, someone said it. I've had the same thoughts about the hygiene memes. For years I've actually put more effort into hygiene and grooming for a day at home than for a day out because it's just comfortable and won't get ruined by sweating in hot weather or otherwise getting the grime of the outside world on me.
Wonderful thoughts!! ❤
what she says is quite relatable to me as well
Perfectly said! It’s all so true!
Love it
Thank you Nicole! Thank you 😁
Take care, Robin! Hope things are better!
Such a great message! Thank you Nicole!
Awesome video and good questions. Made me think especially about the dinners I cook when I'm home alone for the night.
Yes! I agree with this. I want to do things for myself!
We can always make time to tidy✨
Hello, Nicole! Thank You very much for all your great advice on money, self-care, and many more! Continue such an excellent job helping people learn to live a better life, and making better decisions for better future. Great Job!
i only found your channel a few days ago but i love your videos and they speak so much truth. (:
I remember some of my friends mocked me for wearing classier clothes and why do I bother with good looking clothes when I was single. To this day I never understood what was going on in their heads. Maybe it was crazy for those former friends that wearing something nice is for yourself and not for others.
Thank you for this video Nicole 🙏🏼👍🙂
Totally agree. 😊
Awesome message.
You have several best sellers in you, Nicole!
The typed descriptions of the things you saw had me doubled over laughing. Glad it was you and not me hahaha
I love this
Great video as always! Thank you for your videos. I'm addicted to your channel!
Good stuff!
Great message !
Yes!! 😊
Good one
