Bad timing I think. The pokèmon and Digimon wars was raging at this time. I read somewhere that the cartoon had too much competition when it was released
I actually like the design of the 98 Godzilla. The more dinosaur-like T-Rex stance quickly grew on me. I know there are OG Godzilla fans out there that are like "Upright Godzilla for life!" But if the 98 movie had been more faithful to the Japanese Godzilla but still used this design, fans may have been more lenient on it.
There are stills from "Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla" where Satsuma is adopting a Tyrannosaurus-style pose and he just looks weird hunched over like that.
98' Zilla is my favourite looking Godzilla (why the Jay Leno chin, though?). My favourite Japanese Godzilla is Final Wars Godzilla. I just wish 98' was more of a tank to damage.
Fans already like this design and the animated series already proved this design can work as a godzilla design (but mostly as it's own creature design)
From what I heard around the Internet, the movie is a good monster movie, just not a good Godzilla movie. Some even say it would have worked better as a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Me, I still like it regardless. It's not the worst Godzilla movie in my opinion. And without it, we wouldn't have the Millennium era of Godzilla movies that were made from pure spite for this movie 😅.
@@cooltrainervaultboy-39 " And without it, we wouldn't have the Millennium era of Godzilla movies that were made from pure spite for this movie" Well, you're half right. If it hadn't have been for the 1998 movie we wouldn't have had the Millennium "series." No, what we would have had was the continued adventures of Junior. Godzilla was ALWAYS going to come back in 1999. I don't care what you've read online recently. Back in 1995, the word coming out of Japan was "No more until 1999." And it was going to be about Godzilla Jr. And there was a script that Tomoyuki Tanaka was getting ready (just like he had for the '84 Godzilla, working on it since 1977) for the comeback movie in '99. But in 1997, Tanaka died. The 1998 disaster happened and without Tanaka, Shogo Tomiyama was free to do his own thing and that's how the Millennium movies came to be. But Godzilla was going to be back in 1999 regardless of the 1998 movie.
Those are amazing. I really wish some enterprising company out there could find a way to create the monsters from some of the "other" Godzilla continuities in toy form these days. The '90s cartoon monsters, the Hanna-Barbara ones, the weird-ass ones from the Marvel comic, etc. Would probably be insanely cost prohibitive given the z-level of their marketability even in the G-world but I'd kill to have C-Rex or Rhiahn in Bandai-style.
@@92Raider-art Yeah, hence the "insanely cost prohibitive" part. I had a friend who thought about doing a line of 3rd party 3D printed statues/figurines of them all - the HB, Sony cartoon, Marvel, Dark Horse monsters - but he never got good enough with it to make it work.
I know people throw the term "better than it had any right to be" around a lot, but DAMN does Godzilla the Series ever represent that phrase perfectly.
Fun Fact: There is a Star Wars Animated Series Called “Ewoks”. it Lasted 2 Seasons and Features Wicket and His Friends as They Go on Journeys. The Series Came Out in 1985 and Ended in 1987, and it Featured The Ewoks Characters from 1983’s “Star Wars Episode VI: Return of The Jedi”.
I wonder if the molds/tooling for these prototypes still exist. I'd love for someone like Super 7 to buy them up and release them, ala those unproduced Alien or Dark Crystal figures that happened a while back...
I kinda hope Super 7 doesn't make retro-style Godzilla toys based on these designs. They're overpriced. $17 for a 4.5 inch figure based on the Adventure People 5-point articulation model is too much.
Take TWO!!! Yo MIB! Great indepth look of the godzilla the series canceled trendmasters figures. You're very lucky to own these holy grails as these would have been fantastic for those who really enjoyed the cartoon show that is better than the movie it came from. I would love to own one as a child but alas it wasn't ment to be after Walmart said no. It's great that you get to show these figures and mad props to Jonathan who showed us the prototypes from his collection and yours as well. Another sad case of what have could have been. Great video!!!!
After having a rough time on the first day of college and seeing another MIB video talking about the cancelled Godzilla the series trendmasters toyline, this made my day a lot better.
This toy line looked like it would’ve been so much fun. Honestly, I know that they have been getting a lot of flak but I think a company like Super 7 should bring some of these toys to life along with recreations of other old Trendmasters toys. It would give them an edge on other companies making Godzilla toys.
I remember when I was younger, I saw the unreleased commercial for this toy line on RUclips, and I was constantly trying to find the toys on ebay, when years later I realized that they never released, and it was an unreleased commercial. my younger self would have been crying to sleep.
Andy lore is the best kind of lore like now we have a villain too who's a rabbit lol and it's cute that snowball of chaos will rule the world and make his lizard faced dad proud just wait and see
Dammit, I would have loved to get Cyber Godzilla as a kid, but I feel it should have had a sort of distorted roar effect rather than the same Godzilla one. I also wonder how many toy lines and toys we were denied due to Walmart. I also find Andy calling a rabbit a “domestic terrorist” kind of fitting, given that fits a lot of bunny based RUclipss (Pippa, Nanobites, and especially Pekora).
It’s super interesting to see what these could’ve been it were been released on the shelves back then, and the prototypes are as close as we can get for the animated Godzilla toys.
I WOULD HAVE LOVED THESE I DIDNT GROW UP IN THE 90S BUT I FOUND A 98 SHATTER TAIL GODZILLA IN A THRIFT STORE I would have loved to find one of these in a thrift store
Really enjoyed your second look on these figures I would have loved these when I was little, a monster that I would haved loved seeing as a figure is the chameleon, yeah it would be another godzilla jr mold but it really has a unique messed up look.
His head might be decently sculped but the expression on the trendmasters Randy from the Tomart magazine picture you have there looks like he is permanently ''elevated''. Ironic considering how hard it is to make it stand on its own.
Found you awhile back when I was zoinked and watched for hours without subbing, thought about you recently and couldn't remember your name, glad I found you again after a hour of searching XD
I love seeing what could’ve been. Where the movie disappointed 9 year old me, I loved the toys and the cartoon, so even seeing these unreleased ones takes me back.
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Darn it Walmart!!!!!!!! These toys would have driven me crazy on my childhood. Sad to see they were never released. Hopefully one day, we can get SH Monsterarts versions of these figures.
Legend say that Andy is still trying to catch that damn rabbit lol keep trying Andy let's hope doesn't actually kill the funny rabbit nah he wouldn't he's funny dog he wouldn't kill a funny rabbit right RIGHT
this toyline needs to happen maybe we could start a kickstarter campaign and we also could make figures of the other characters and monsters who's with me?
A figure I would've liked to see is Nessie and her baby, I always liked that episode. Maybe even a 2 pack with Kamadotrax, her egg, and the giant turtle.
So sad these toys weren’t mass produced.
WHY DO I SEE YOU EVERYWHERE?!
What the fuck
Somebody shud crowdfund these and release them to the market in limited quantities
Bad timing I think. The pokèmon and Digimon wars was raging at this time. I read somewhere that the cartoon had too much competition when it was released

Imagine if there was an alternative universe where Walmart actually wanted these toys.
Perfect universe.
That and the moive was not hated.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEE BOOOOOIIIIIIIII

cyber zilla, zilla jr, maybe even komodithrax ! WHY DID WALMART SAY NO ?! WHYYYYYYYYYY ????
