The waffle is just a vehicle to get butter and syrup into your mouth. On a waffle that size probably 3 pats of butter, maybe 4, and about a half a cup of syrup. It should pool on the plate and drip all the way to your mouth. I had one of those type of breakfast a couple months ago and I'm still full.
Vicksburg is my favorite Waffle House. 😋 2 states away. Waffle House is mostly breakfast food. Limited menu but they have perfected what they do. ALWAYS, ALWAYS OPEN. If Waffle House is closed everyone is dead.
Pretty much each region has its own delicious food after a night out, but can't beat bisquits gravy eggs hashbrowns sausage bacon and pancakes/waffles.
Ohio here ... can't beat the Waffle House ... they're not just in the South ! When you're really hungry , they're the go to , feel good , always open spot (and reasonably priced) !
Yea, the south claims a lot of stuff that's relatively widespread outside of the south lol. "Southern cooking" in general is really just "rural cooking", we cooked the same way growing up in Indiana & Ohio lol.
Going to Waffle House at 3am means you have been drinking all night and don't care about your cholesterol. And grits are kind of like polenta; by themselves they're bland but they're a base for what you put on them: butter, cheese, shrimp, bacon, etc.
Waffle houses exist all over not just in the south. Anywhere south of Washington dc, NYC, or along the east coast has one in most towns. Their staff is notorious for being willing to fight and their grilled sandwiches and bowls are fantastic. Always cover hash browns in sausage gravy. Always.
I'm from New Jersey and we have Waffle House here too and I have been. It's a good "greasy spoon" sort of place that is frequented by people after a night out often so it's true. Side note= New Jersey is known as the diner capital of the world so we have a TON of 24 hour diners (less now than there used to be) that range from greasy spoon to fine dining. Most locals prefer places that fall somewhere in the middle of those 2.
Love all your content! Found you recently and have been watching a ton of videos. I love how much you appreciate my country, and I can't wait for you to visit and share your experiences!
You have to fill every square on the waffle. I don't go to a lot of greasy spoons(slang 24hr restaurants, ie Waffle House) these days, but went a lot after watching bands plays when I was in my 20's.
Texan here, and Waffle House is choice number 1 on the list of places to go after a wild night out; another is Whataburger, as both are open 24 hours a day, and both are subjectively very tasty.
I've been to Waffle House _many.... many_ times. And a local diner that was the 3am spot in the town I grew up in that was much like this. I think every town, city, neighborhood, etc... has something like this for after clubbing to go to. Sit around, sober up, have some crazy salty and fatty foods... and then mosey home. It's a tradition. Arkansas and Southern Missouri.
I used to work in flood insurance with FEMA(govt disaster program) and Waffle House is used to determine the severity of destruction for an area. They have generators and can operate during severe weather and after. They’re the one place that is expected to still be open after a horrible storm. Waffle houses and concrete buildings.

Native born & raised Southern Californian here. 1st Waffle House visit (& 2nd & 3rd) were ALL during a visit to South Carolina, very close to Charleston. OH, MY. Also, my 1st time trying grits. Cheese grits. Will never forget the joy. Our eldest son was in a very tough school for the US Navy, this was in 2006. Our hotel was next to a WH!!! Kind of didn't want to eat anywhere else. We had a super shy young waitress. Youngest son ordered a big breakfast, finished it, & ordered a 2nd one. The sweet young lady looked at me, for permission. I just smiled & said, "He's a teenaged boy, the food will be gone." Many visits to WH around Dallas, TX, after landing at the airport & before the 2 hour drive to visit husband's family in East Texas. I have a picture of me & my husband in WF hats -- the paper ones the staff sometimes wear -- with our arms around our server. ❤❤❤ Great coffee, too!! I've often put good quality shredded cheese in scrambled eggs for our family, before they all grew up & moved away. I have watched Josh & Ollie for years, also Gabi Kook's channel.❤
From Alabama. Waffle House is pretty fantastic. I don't actually care too much for sweet foods. However, when it comes to waffles, I would say that they were about half way there with the syrup. It probably could have used about another 4 tablespoons of butter as well.
It probably isn't pure maple syrup, but at a Waffle House, it would be really good syrup. They probably have blueberry and raspberry too. Pork sausage dipped in maple syrup is good.
Noah works for World Central Kitchen which you may have heard of because they always show up when there are disasters. Recently they were feeding people in Kyiv but now in Gaza.
Grits are a type of cornmeal made from dent corn, a less sweet variety of corn than the kind you might eat on the cob. The corn is dried and then ground, either coarsely to make traditional grits or finely to make instant grits. They can be a bit of an acquired taste for some. I don't care for them. Dent corn, also known as field corn or grain corn, is a variety of maize (Zea mays) that is primarily grown for animal feed, industrial uses, and food processing. It gets its name from the small dent or depression that forms on the kernel's crown as it dries. Sweet corn is harvested when the kernels are still tender and eaten as a vegetable, dent corn is allowed to mature on the stalk until the kernels are hard and dry. This makes it easier to store and process into various products like cornmeal, grits, flour, ethanol, and even plastics.
sure the south has good food. but I mean like you mentioned italians have carbonara which is equally as good, and pizza. but then again the south has tex mex and texas BBQ as well so its really hard to beat texas

I've noticed a lot of people who aren't from the US just order the food the way it comes. You can pretty much customize everything here. I've been to many Waffle Houses....soooo good. That was not enough syrup on the waffles (and I like dipping bacon in the syrup too). As with all chains, some are better than others. There's something called the Waffle House Index. If Waffle House closes, you know there will be bad weather! lol. People also go to Whataburger after a night out too.
Food helps absorb some of the alcohol after a night of drinking. My go to was biscuits & gravy with hash browns and crispy bacon. Think of grits kind of similar to polenta. I've been to Waffle House in a few states but mostly here in Texas. They have all kinds of food not just breakfast stuff.

Waffle House isn't the very best you'll ever taste, but it's always open and whether you want breakfast, a sandwich or an entree, you can find something there to eat, and it's good.
In America, that was NOT enough syrup. Noah was being nice to the Europeans and told him to stop, but you see he added some more, right? Lol -Noah told them not to eat the grits cause they were actually good to him. He wanted to keep them to himself, lol.
I've never had a bad meal at a Waffle House. Everything on the menu is delicious! The birthday guy in the middle evidently had been celebrating a lot at the bar that evening, but he had presence of mind to order lots of great food for the other two guys to try. That first plate was a customized order. Also, when it comes to the grits.........lots of butter, salt and pepper will make them taste amazing. Eating them plain............no so much. lol
Waffle House is just a chain that serves Breakfast Food all day long. The name Waffle House was just chosen, because why not? There is very rarely a moment when there is too much syrup. Most of the time, it's never enough. I don't understand Europeans that just drizzle a little bit of syrup on their pancakes or waffles. That's like dropping a 100 lb bomb on a huge factory and believing you're gonna destroy it. You need to drench your waffles or pancakes in syrup, because that stuff soaks in pretty fast, and you need some free syrup to actually eat it.
This drunk Georgia boy introducing them to the standard that is Waffle House is giving me LIFE lol. I’m from Savannah but my family is from Florida and Alabama, and Waffle House is the most ideal, classic American diner food. The best hangover food. Open all the time…if the Waffle House is closing, you know it’s a big deal and you should probably evacuate the area. One thing they don’t do very well, though, is grits (there, I said it!). Grits are just a porridge, just like Cream of Wheat or oatmeal, it’s just a porridge made from ground corn or hominy, which is like corn. Culturally we don’t add sugar to grits like you do with Cream of Wheat or oatmeal, but you could if you wanted to. We would just side-eye you. It’s a savory hot cereal just like any other hot cereal. Polenta is just coarse-ground yellow grits. That’s exactly what it is.
Ever since I was a little girl growing up in the south, I have loved grits, cooked thick like mashed potatoes, not runny like a soup, covered in butter with salt and black pepper. Grits is ground corn so it fills the spot when you crave carbs like mashed potatoes or popcorn (without those pesky kernels getting stuck in your teeth). I only eat them from time-to-time as we usually just eat potatoes as a side dish. But once in awhile a change of flavor with the corn is a delight.
Some people like grits with milk and sugar, and perhaps a sprinkle of cinnamon. Not me . . . too sweet for my taste. I also love corn bread with butter. Corn bread is yellow corn, grits is white corn - different flavors - both real southern food.
Air Force brat here. I am now in my 60’s. Every part of the US has awesome food! Southwest has Mexican food to knock your socks off. California, Oregon, excellent food. The mid west could use a little more spice, but the BBQ varieties are to die for. East coast? Once again has their own flavor…. Waffle House has an amazing chicken breast for breakfast!
@@hazedidit Nah, just because RUclips made it so, doesn't make it true. I will agree on the BBQ but they have great BBQ in other states too. Biscuits and gravy are another one. However, the fact of the matter is anyone that can cook halfway decently can make great B&G. It's not rocket science. Especially if you go through hundreds of Southern cookbooks & RUclips videos. For the most part the gravy is the same 4-5 ingredients. And, it takes less than 30 minutes. lol. I do love that stuff though. May have originated in the South but I have had great B&G in all my travels since it's a go-to breakfast. I'm not impressed with Waffle House. I've had much better breakfasts at other restaurants/diners. However, I do see the appeal for people to eat at places like this after the bars close that look exactly like Noah did. S-faced. Not much different than Denney's and many diners across the country. Seen a lot of places on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives that I would love to visit. The ingredients, quality of dishes prepared look amazing.
Grits is short for hominy grits. Its ground up hominy. Hominy is corn that has been cooked in lye or other strong Alkaline to break it down to be human digestible. They expand in to popcorn like balls in the process. Its then dried in to crunchy balls. Grits is a filler food. its like rice. You eat it to get full, but the flavor comes from what you top it with. Brown sugar is my first choice, but butter is common. Shrimp an grits is also common in beach towns. Not many people like grits alone. But it was a staple food in a world were understandable corn was the main grain crop.
I'm from Alabama but now I live in Las Vegas and I absolutely LOVE waffle house! Waffle house is only in the south and it's one of the few restaurants I miss the most from back home. I have many fond memories ranging from eating breakfast there early in the morning with my dad before school as a young boy all the way up to drunken late night snacks in my twenties. Waffle House is definitely a staple of the South and you can only find them in the south!
Waffle House is definitely NOT “only in the south” - we have them in Ohio . In fact, the one in my hometown has been here for over 30 years. Ohio alone has 80 WH locations as of 2022.

Waffle House is actually in quite a few states that are not in the south including the Eastern Seaboard, the Midwest, the Upper Midwest and out West. You need to get out of the house more, lol. Just kidding! Sounds like you have some great memories from the restaurant though. You may want to take a drive over to Phoenix the next time you get a craving or a bit of nostalgia. Got a bunch of them. Got lots to do & see in Arizona. :)
It's not too much. That's about how much I'd put. There's really only two options with a waffle. No syrup (maybe having with strawberries and whip cream or something), or full syrup. Nothing in between.
Apple butter is applesauce that's cooked longer, until it caramelizes. It's often spiced with cinnamon. I prefer it without the cinnamon. It's heaven on buttered toast or in a buttered biscuit.
@3:45 thats the same type of gravy, yes. no biscuits on that plate tho. So... a Waffle House is a subset of the classic American 'Diner' you may know from movies, etc. called a short-order restaurant. These are places mostly very close to highways and freeways who have a menu limited to stuff you can prepare very quickly and eat quickly to get back on the road. They were a pre-cursor to the modern fast-food joints that came. The short-order part came from the wait-staff giving the order to the cook by calling outloud the order in a type of short-hand language. The different diners often had different words for things. When you're in a Waffle House, you will hear them shouting orders in this lingo.
I live in North Carolina in the southern US, we would have breakfast for supper occasionally (last meal of the day for you Andre). Pancakes with lots of syrup and sausages. We would dip our sausages in the syrup. In the public schools the children would have a pancake wrapped around a sausage on a stick for breakfast shaped like a corn dog. The children would smell like syrup until lunchtime which I could vouch for being a retired Art teacher.
Pretty much every american has been to a waffle house at least one time in their life. Personally it's not my jam but i've still been there a handful of times. I prefer denny's or ihop.
As a Canadian, my first time at a Waffle House in the south, they asked if I wanted grits. I admitted I never had it before then brought me a "free sample" and brought out a full sized bowl! Such kindness! And the grits were pretty good!
I have traveled throughout the US (because of my job) and food is very good everywhere. I can’t eat seafood anymore because I developed an allergy to it. But trying the regional specialties is great. I also love to cook so now I make most of our meals at home. I make all kinds of foods I’ve tried in so many places…I have a variety of cookbooks from regional areas.

Btw the staff is always super friendly, and the tables are feet away from the grill so you’re in close with them. Always end up chatting a lot with both waiters and cook.
Waffle Houses are all over the place, as are any number of "pancake houses" that specialize in breakfast items but also have dishes suitable for lunch and dinner. They may be the reason it's not unusual here to eat "breakfast" for any meal of the day.
Whenever you travel through the South, you're going to see Waffle House next to the freeway. You know, wherever you are, what you're going to get, that it'll be cheap and filling.
Waffle House southern classic!! Nashville Tennessee here💪
Vicksburg is my favorite Waffle House.
Yeah biscuits and gravy eggs hashbrowns etc...might be the best thing I've ever ate...and im a yankee...I just can't eat it in the morning😂
Best seat in the house is a counter seat behind the cook, a good cook is a thing a magic to watch. They have everything timed perfectly!
Smothered, covered, and diced!
Yes I've been there before....Waffle House is a good place to go after drinking or if you're craving breakfast at night....he was ordering alot of hashbrowns & eggs & biscuits & gravy with sausage gravy & two different kinds of sandwiches called 'melts' & two different kinds of waffles....yes you can definitely custom order by loading up everything with cheese & bacon....IHOP will blow your mind cus it doesn't just have pancakes....omg André 😱🤦♀️ that was not enough at all....waffles & pancakes are meant to be drowned in butter & syrup....sausage dipped in syrup is the best....I love extra cheesy eggs....apple butter is next level....yes it's alot but the best part is that you can take it home & have it again....grits is corn & you either love it or hate it....yes definitely it's the best comfort food even when you're sober
IHOP?
@@user-calm_salty International House of Pancakes...another chain. But they do have pancakes, obviously.
Nope! Not too much maple syrup!!
Living in Ohio and Waffle House is EXACTLY as advertised 😂!
Yep…! Back in the day, my favorite bar was within walking distance to Waffle House. We joked calling it “The Awful Waffle”, but it was perfect every time !
When I lived in Ohio I preferred Dennys over the Waffle House.
@@josepho7083 This comes down to location tbh. I've had amazing KFC and amazingly bad KFC. Same goes for Waffle house or any other chain. But I'm definitely biased towards waffle house, Dennys doesn't have that 3am chaotic neutral vibe like the waffle house does.
@@jdthesexpert05 Yep, I agree. If they are consistent at deep cleaning of their big flat iron griddle cooktops and they fryer vats especially. I've experienced some awful food at some Waffle Houses, but mostly they've been a good experience.
@@josepho7083 Different establishments for different purposes - Waffle House for your 3AM drunken state, Denny's for 3AM depression for example. There's also IHOP of course, for when you got your bonus and your drunk self is feeling bougie at 3AM.
My mom used to make syrup for us by boiling sugar and water and adding maple flavoring. It was a lot cheaper and we were working poor at the time.
We did the same thing growing up
Simple syrup.
I just smiled & said, "He's a teenaged boy, the food will be gone."
Many visits to WH around Dallas, TX, after landing at the airport & before the 2 hour drive to visit husband's family in East Texas. I have a picture of me & my husband in WF hats -- the paper ones the staff sometimes wear -- with our arms around our server. ❤❤❤
Great coffee, too!!
I have been there when I lived in Florida. The loaded hash browns are too die for
It probably isn't pure maple syrup, but at a Waffle House, it would be really good syrup. They probably have blueberry and raspberry too. Pork sausage dipped in maple syrup is good.
I used to work at an IHOP....
Up in Michigan and Indiana, we have IHOP or Denny's.
I’d seen this video before and dear Lord, Noah is a damn funny guy!
Noah works for World Central Kitchen which you may have heard of because they always show up when there are disasters. Recently they were feeding people in Kyiv but now in Gaza.
Not to mention he made a very deep run on MasterChef. Finished in the top 5 if I'm not mistaken.
Grits are coarsely ground corn typically maize or hominy. I associate hominy with Spanish food but I don’t know if it is only in Mexican food and Southern food
In America they're called grits but in some place like Italy you would call it polenta.
Not the same as the milling makes the texture different. An Italian would never grits polenta.
I am a 55 year old, and retired from the U.S. Army. If and when you come to the States It would be a honor to show you around, I live in Indiana, but have time to take you around to show you the Midwest.
Grits is mainly ground corn. It is usually eaten with butter, salt, pepper and cheese.
No not too much syrup ❤ and gotta put it on top of melted butter 😋 and down South they pronounce syrup as a one syllable word: "SURP" 😅
we sure the hell do lol
Are you wrong? Possibly not. That is all comfort food!
You gotta fill in every hole the waffle has with syrup for it to be enough. If it's not, then you need more syrup.
Waffle House has 1,900 locations in 25 States mostly Mid-west US and the South
Food helps absorb some of the alcohol after a night of drinking. My go to was biscuits & gravy with hash browns and crispy bacon.
Think of grits kind of similar to polenta.
I've been to Waffle House in a few states but mostly here in Texas. They have all kinds of food not just breakfast stuff.
Andre you'd fit right in, Southern Man absolutely 🔥🤟🇺🇸💪! Florida!
you are right! I'm glad you didn't say "Florida man"
@@user-calm_salty That is a prejudice that I do not participate in, I know of nowhere in America that you do not have people who embrace the wild side of Life, sometimes they possess sanity, and sometimes they do not! 🔥🤟💪🇺🇸👍
I like both syrup and butter on my waffles, mixing the two. So good
I really need to wait and watch this when I have food in front of me...these vids are killing me. :)))
i freaking love grits... grits with butter and salt and pepper.. mmm... but when i go to waffle house.. i get a grit bowl that has bacon, grits, cheese and eggs... omg.. so good.. that is my typical to go to when i go there.
Waffle House isn't the very best you'll ever taste, but it's always open and whether you want breakfast, a sandwich or an entree, you can find something there to eat, and it's good.
Carbonara burgers are actually a thing you can get in a number of burger places in the US.
In America, that was NOT enough syrup. Noah was being nice to the Europeans and told him to stop, but you see he added some more, right? Lol
-Noah told them not to eat the grits cause they were actually good to him. He wanted to keep them to himself, lol.
Yeah there are so many combinations. Usually you get "your" order perfected and stick with it when you go.
Eating them plain............no so much. lol
U CAN FOLLOW WAFFLE HOUSES FROM LAKE ERIE OHIO
DOWN TO FLORIDA❗😲
Just throw cheese & extra butter in your grits.
@@duckducknight if you make them with water they’ll always be watery. Use chicken broth and dairy.
I love how you left out the South, which has the best food of the entire country...
It all looked delicious! Too bad about the grits, they are usually delicious especially with a fried egg with the yolk all running into them.
You have to know how to cook grits then they’re really good
I love the "That's too much that's too much.... Or maybe not"
If it’s real maple syrup, you can never have enough!
@@imweakfordeaky good for you... I spent a decent amount of time in the military and have lived all over the country and I've only seen them in the South... Didn't know they existed in Ohio.
The best way to explain grits is oatmeal made with corn or wheat instead of oat, with the texture of creamy mashed potatoes
Andre, my town has a pizza restaurant called "Sam and Ellas!!! If you say it fast its a food bourne illness! 😂😅
Bahaha this one is hilarious. Noah is so drunk/zooted 😂
Waffle House has branched out of the South a bit. I'm in Illinois, and we have two nearby.
There was one in Evanston when I was in college 50 years ago. Now I live in California and have to visit family in Georgia to get pecan waffles❤
There's no such thing as too much syrup 😅
Have them up north in Ohio too. Its how you soak up the alcohol in your system after the bar closes.
Every area in the United States has great food. I actually love the food along the coast because I'm a seafood lover❤
Never been anywhere near a Waffle House. You should go to Alaska for some reindeer sausage. June is the best time. A lot of mosquitoes, but the weathers nice that part of summer.
Btw the staff is always super friendly, and the tables are feet away from the grill so you’re in close with them. Always end up chatting a lot with both waiters and cook.
Raisin cinnamon swirl bread is top tier. I can eat a whole loaf in one sitting but I usually use it to make French toast
Waffle Houses are all over the place, as are any number of "pancake houses" that specialize in breakfast items but also have dishes suitable for lunch and dinner. They may be the reason it's not unusual here to eat "breakfast" for any meal of the day.
You should check out the Waffle House index its a hurricane and natural disaster rating scale based on waffle house
Whenever you travel through the South, you're going to see Waffle House next to the freeway. You know, wherever you are, what you're going to get, that it'll be cheap and filling. And always open, except during hurricanes. When Waffle House is closed, stay home, it's bad. When it reopens, the storm has passed. 😊
I don't drink anymore but i used to fo to waffle house and huddle house are same type of restaurant
I was gonna say something about “Huddle House” but I thought maybe not that many people have heard of it. We would always pass on the way to Myrtle Beach back in the day (this being 1993 & earlier). But I don’t think I ever eaten at one but that was a long time ago & the brain is a bit mushy after living thru the 80s. 🤣 Are they still around? ✌🏻
