Damn. What makes viera great is not just how detailed his technique is but his footwork is extremely intricate and he could probably make a video of how to properly walk on your toes and what postures etc.
You could. Instead of grabbing the lapel, you could switch to control the wrist or even his neck if his posture is real bad and you don't expose your elbow. A lot of guys still use the knee shield with no gi. Forming a strong "shell" or frame is the principle basis behind most close quarter guards like half, 93, knee shield, quarter.
you do it with the wrist instead of the collar. its not as stable but it will get the job done if the guy dosent know exactly how to defend the pass, or isnt fast enough.
@@mannymaroupas He said this 4 years ago. Hes kinda right because before CJ , knee shield in half guard was kindo of just a stalling postion. Craig made it dynamic.

At 4:55, did he refer to his training partner as "the hundred kilos"?
Hundred kilos "cem kilos" is the brazilian equivalent of side control
how to do this with no Gi?
You don't. Why would you even knee shield with no gi ? Not much control
