    Last year I cruised the local town junk out. Landed more than enough new pressure treated 4x4s to make a rack. Amazing what people will throw out.

      So true, I’m often checking Marketplace for free wood listings.

    Beautiful work! And really appreciate your initial disclaimer with this project being pricey. Sometimes just sticking a crap cheap rack outside is what you need to get moving, but this was a very cool project to see come together.

      Yeah thanks! I actually got that idea from the contractor doing my kitchen renovation. He asked how I was planning on keeping it down, at that point I didn’t have any idea what I was going to do. He mentioned using steel rebar pins and actually picked them up from Lowe’s for me!

    I want to do something similar for my outdoor gym (no room inside), but I would extend the uprights further to incorporate some built in shade. Very important in Arizona!

    • @KaizenDIYGym
      @KaizenDIYGym  Год назад +1

      I didn’t even think about that but shade would be awesome, especially in the summer!

    Nicely done. But I can't shake the feeling that the wood that's touching the wet ground will eventually rot. I'd suggest elevating the rack a bit from the ground by securing it on concrete posts, just high enough to get some airflow under the bottom of the rack.

    • @KaizenDIYGym
      @KaizenDIYGym  Год назад +1

      Honestly, I’m not too worried about it. I’ve got two other racks already and I’m curious to see how this one holds up as-is.

    Nice build. Did you ever do a drop test on the spotter pipes? Cedar is one of the weaker woods and I wonder if the pipes should have some CRS rods inserted for backup strength.

    What do you think about lining the insides of power racks and benches with wood? I'm not sure if you'd need to the switch out the hardware everytime but does it increase weight capacity by a big difference?

    Heh, just in time for winter. Also, safety is very important. Please use safety goggles when operating high powered rotary saws!

      Goggles are better. Had a brake rotor flak bounce up my cheekbone into my eye. Doc had to use a triangular right-angle scalpel to get all the pieces out.
      Safety glasses are enough until they aren't.

    • @KaizenDIYGym

      Nope. I specifically used rough sawn cedar because I love how it looks. This is also an experiment to see how it holds you over time.

    You only needed to lay each side on their backs and support them when screwing on the pull-up bar. No need to have them standing.

      I think the store bought pull up bar on a homemade rack makes sense if you want the different grips and I think more people should do it.
      It's possible but hard to diy that.
