I don't buy concealer too! :) I really hate the feeling of makeup on my undereyes, I never found one that doesn't crease after a while and honestly I think it always looks fake, at least on my face. I prefer my not-so-perfect undereyes. If I need to cover up any pimples I'll apply a second layer of foundation on that area and that's it.

I also stopped buying underwire. More for health reasons and yes, the added bonus of saving money too. Among many other things you mentioned. It’s so nice to minimize the things we don’t need.
What are dryer sheets? We don’t have them here in Australia 😅 Also owning 10+ bathing suits is insane! In the summer when we swim at the beach every day we just rinse our bathers and hang them in the bathroom to wear again the next day.
Haha they’re pretty popular in the states! People use them to prevent static building up on their clothes when drying them. And I know! Personally I do like having two suits that I can rotate between (I don’t love putting on a soggy bathing suit) but more than that definitely feels like overkill for me ☺️
Things Americans don’t seem to own or use much that we do - kettles, tea towels, clothes line. Things Americans use way more than I’ve ever seen in Australia - paper towel, paper plates, dryer sheets & dryers.
Black color looks great on you Ashlynne, love this minimalist style! I just love love love this type of videos. I don't buy most of these things either :)
I find these videos like this and minimalism so relaxing. and i feel like its a process that im in the middle off and its just so much fun working towards this. i never thought something like this could be fun and joyfull because it honestly seems kinda boring from the outside but as fast as i started trying it out i understood that this is exactly what i want and need.
I stop buying expensive skin care and just bought a basic Cerve cleanser and moisturizer and use that money to treat myself to monthly facials my skin has greatly improved
I enjoy thrifting with grocery and household bargains. I’ve gone through our closets and donated most of our clothes and shoes. I’ve purged the closets a second time. We only have the essentials for cooking although I’d like to have a waffle maker! Lol
Hi Ashlynne, I just recently found your channel and I'm so happy I did! I stopped using facial washes, scrubs and toners and began using just water and my skin has never been clearer 🙂
Our Airfryer and Instant pot are the only kitchen appliances we own(coffee grinder not included hehe). We actually use our airfryer almost daily and for most meals. It does everything a convection & toaster oven would do but faster. We don't eat enough bread to even justify a toaster but the airfryer does it all! It is a bit bulky but 100% worth it.
I love watching sweet young things talk about minimalism because I realized I am finally completely in style at 60....all those things that you have on your list I have done always and instinctively because I am frugal and eco conscious....to me it just makes sense....except those underwire bras....need them Lol😎👌
Thanks! And meal prepping is something that I’ve only recently started doing! Maybe once I’ve gotten better at it, I’ll make a video sharing my meals 🥰
I miss taking baths with salts😔so relaxing and therapeutic. We moved to a different state last year and our new house only has showers . Some day I will install a bathtub. 😁👌👍
Peroxide is a great mouthwash. My hygienist was really impressed with my teeth after beginning a regimen with it. Plus it’s around if you need it for first aid or laundry.
I stopped buying toners as well & I make my own instead with water & apple cider vinegar in a glass bottle. This works out so well for me & my wallet, plus it really helped clear my skin!
I only use the disinfectant wipes when cleaning my toilet. Otherwise everything gets all-purpose cleaner and/or white vinegar. Yes im aware I can do the same on the toilet but I mentally can't not use wipes so I don't feel like I'm cross contaminating .
Most of these I completely agree with. For me, face exfoliators and toners both are worth it! They do make a big difference for my skin. I don't actually wear any makeup so I don't feel bad about using additional skincare products. As for toners though I use rose water with or without putting on moisturizer since it doesn't dry my skin. I use witch hazel only with moisturizer, as it dries out the skin otherwise.
Loved hearing this perspective! I definitely recognize that just because my skin does better without those products doesn’t mean that everyone is the same way. That’s awesome those products bring you value and work well for you! 💙
I love these videos! Some of these don’t apply to me and some of them are different from what my lifestyle is, but the ideas are fabulous and help me really take a look at all my stuff
If there’s a public library in the area near you, think about getting an annual subscription (if possible). I love reading, but don’t want to buy every book, so just borrowing is a lot easier and cheaper.
Hey Ashlynne great video. I stop buying fabric softener, mouthwash, toothpaste, We make our own mouthwash and toothpaste also we use the wool balls and vinegar for softener.❤
I would recommend watching some skincare videos. Great information on what a basic facial skincare could use. Just water won’t do any justice in the long run. Your typical facial skincare routine would be to double cleanse (oil balm or liquid cleanser & foam or cream cleanser), toner, a day/night moisturizer and a face sunblock. That’s just the basic items. If your skin needs more care than that is when you would add in serums, spot creams, and exfoliators. Lots of brands especially Korean brands have natural, vegan, clean products available. I’m obviously obsessed with this subject so haha just fyi. I wish I have know about this when I was younger. But so many of these items were not available during my time..
Love this! ❤️🙏Ever since I started to declutter my home this summer at first it was stressful but now it's beneficial I did it so my future self can be thankful. I have one pair of cute wedges for weddings and fancy dressy events. I agree I don't use dryer sheets anymore. We have a heating closet to dry clothes and turn on the heater to dry clothes. I also let my gal pals go through my clothes I don't want.
Ive been trying to minimise how much stuff I have... I always owned nice luxury or sports cars and paid a pretty penny for them, now I own a car thats 16 years old and cost the same as a set of tires but honestly it does the job and I wouldn't change it!
I'd add two more: 1. Paper dinner napkins - Use cloth napkins that you can easily toss in the washing machine. Folding each used side over you can easily get 4-5 uses out of one cloth napkin. And if you have big family, buy a couple in different colors so that each family member has their own color. 2. Paper towels - Instead use "big box store" 20 set microfiber clothes. They last forever. They're great for everything a paper towel can do plus they work perfectly as a skin exfoliator. Use a permanent black marker on label to separate the ones you use for rags from bath towels. I've stopping using all those expensive "magic elixir" beauty products and switched to only using Burt's Bees Sensitive Skin cleanser and moisturizer on my face (no, I'm not a hack) plus a microfiber cloth once a week in the shower (use gently). Since then my life-long cystic acne has completely cleared! Also works for rough skin on heels (use vigorously)! Use one cloth for your entire body, but always start with face, because starting with your feet would be gross! They are also great for storing/wrapping lettuce heads and other leafy greens - again mark the labels.
You did a good job. Very intensional on all your purchases. 😚Most of the things you mentioned I don’t use it as well. But for laundry softener and dryer sheets I am thinking to find a way to swap them because we always spent a lot of money on that.
Makeup, leave in conditioner, paper towels, fast food, cleaning supplies (bleach, dish soap, baking soda: all have multiple uses). Food delivery, face cleansers.
I have 2 swimsuits... A one piece and a 2 piece. I don't use a lot of makeup, unless there is a special event or occasion. Aside from a moisturizer and a toner, I don't own much... My makeup supplies can fit in my 2 small pencil cases (I donated all my makeup bags and decluttered almost all my makeup) I own only 1 pair of plain black heels and 1 silver one (this is a gift and I use them) I have a total of 8 bottles of nail polish... I used to have a shoebox full of them... I decided to keep the ones I really 😍 on hand but I just kept it to 8 only
My honest view is that this is a bit of an extreme approach. It's an amazing reminder not to judge what works for someone else based on what we'd do ourselves. I think that type of judgment is almost second nature for humans, so I highly value avoiding it, since that creates space for taking the learnings and the teachings that can be found in others' experiences and applying them to our own unique lifestyle. With that said, I really like your videos, definitely one of the most authentic RUclipsrs :)
I would love to be able to use some of my recipe books to make stuff but for me timing is everything. I do like simple recipes with just a few items not the detailed ones with a whole lot of items.
I stopped buying meat. I’m trying to cut down my grocery costs, I live in a studio and so the smell of cooking it would fill the whole studio which I didn’t like, and idk I’ve always felt kind of repulsed by raw meat. I do enjoy eating it sometimes if my bf wants to take us out to a restaurant, but I never buy it to make at home.
Yes I havent bought greeting cards in years I always make my own cards on my computer or sometimes I will just get the pack from the dollar store and get the blank ones and just write my own notes inside.
I have to say I never understood the whole eyelash curler thing. Do they really work? I have never owned one. I wouldn't say I have thick lashes or long lashes or curled lashes but I always found that applying mascara gives the desired effect.
YESSSS! Eyelash curlers do work. For me it's a must since I have straight lashes, so I've been using curlers for decades. Curlers last a very very long time and don't cost a lot of money. I've tried using mascara without curling my lashes and it's just sad😂😬
@@heatheryawney3348 absolutely! I've used Shiseido curlers for years until recently when I discovered one by Tarte and I'm in love😍 However, there are much cheaper versions in drug stores, although I can't speak for their quality😉
clothes!!! I used to not even no whats in my closet. Then I looked but even if I new what was in my closet I still didn`t get ride of any thing. But then I got rid of the clothes I didn`t need or want then I found that I don`t have that much cloths any more.
i couldn't agree more with what you said.....almost felt like you were speaking my mind....i am gradually moving towards minimalism.....one thing i stopped buying is toys for my kid....and i have heard this from all the parents that kids don't really play with the toys....they play with the toy for 2-3 days and they are done.....i absolutely find it waste of money and too much clutter in the house.....I instead buy books (to a min) for my kid (second hand). When he is done, i pass it on or donate. I agree, we don't need ALL the fancy kitchen gadgets that exist in this world....never understood the trend to buy a separate egg boiler or panini press like things....All i own is a blender.
I was lucky to realise that I don’t need conditioner about 6 years ago (I have very soft hair which sounds lovely until random people touch my hair and let me know that 😐) and recently began using shampoo as my show gel and shaving foam as well. It just seems easier to have the one bottle
That’s a good idea about the water and towel and coconut to remove your makeup. Thanks for that. Never thought of that. And does it remove your makeup well?
@@krystalberas3915 i'm not entirely sure but i think it should work just fine. read the ingriedients and if it says that its pure oil it should be fine on your skin as well but if there are any chemicals in it which may be for softening your hair or something you should totally not use it on you skin since its such a sensitive organ! hope i could help (:
It’s the bathing suits for me, I definitely have 50 and I’m not sure I can part with that, I never seen that as an issue. But now I know it is! Ugh I love your videos
Omg I have oily, acne-prone, aging skin and if I skip a day or two of my routine I can tell a huge difference. Definitely can’t give that up! Although I think I’m also a decade older than you 😂
In Spain they don’t give you free water at restaurants, tap water here is really bad quality, so you have to spend your money on buying a bottle of water if you want to drink something when you go out lol
I switched to wool dryer balls but my clothes still get static. I’ve tried the attaching safety pins to the dyer balls trick to reduce static without any luck. Not sure what the issue is so I still have to throw a dryer sheet in with my clothes.
I am also a minimalist, I have green eyes, hair & makeup identical to yours, I am obsessed with LOTR and we also save for a down payment (and can relate to many things you say in this video). We might be sisters 💕
İ switched my face care routine from using toner to using %100 rose water and it really changed my skin a lot. İ did realized while i was using toner that it didnt really work but everyone was using it so i thought i should keep using it it will work but it didn't. But with rosewater my skin is softer and more even and it was the best change i ever did in my skincare routine..
Out of the 50 the ones I buy are: bread, foundation, air freshener, Christmas decor, music, underwire bras so only 7. Not that it's about numbers! Every item is an individual situation
That's funny because it's the lord of the rings extended trilogy is what we kept as well as some kids movies (from our era, so harder to find/expensive) for our kids.
I’ve been wanting to try the menstrual cup for so long but I’m scared! I also have no idea how you clean them when you’re out somewhere in public. But I’m SO over buying tampons and liners, they’re so expensive!!
If you need to use a public restroom, you can grab a paper towel on your way in, dump your cup and wipe it down before reinserting. You'd want to wash your hands before and after obviously, but yeah. :) Also, don't panic. It just takes some practice.
Thank you for this video! 😊 I was wondering.. did you used to have acne before you stopped using all these products to clean your skin at night? Because I would love to clean my face with more natural and less products but I’m suffering from some acne and I’m afraid that it would make the acne maybe worse?
I’ve had acne for so many years, recently I have stopped using all products other than water. I’ve tried everything imaginable to get rid of my acne. But simply leaving my skin alone for a month it’s almost all cleared and I can’t believe it !
Hey! I did have acne when I first made the switch, although not as bad as some. I’d almost always have several active pimples on my face at once. What I found though was that after a couple weeks of water and moisturizer my skin dramatically improved!
Honestly I had such bad acne and I was using all sorts of things (serums, acids, toners etc). Then I gave up and simplified my routine. I learnt that all I needed was face wash and I use grapeseed oil when my skin feels dry (which is mostly during the winter) and my skin has stayed clear since :)
This is a great moneysaving video and you are so sweet. But when you get older, you really will I found out, you might change your mind about foundation and especially concealer. I'm afraid your skin changes. But I love all your other suggestions. I'm trying to declutter to bare bones, so thanks.
Hey Gale! So glad you enjoyed this one! You’re totally right that down the road I may decide that I want to use concealer or foundation. This list is sharing things I don’t buy now... and haven’t for a while, but as I get older I’m sure some of these will change 🤍
That probably depends on the person. My mother is 53 and she never uses any type of foundation and her skin still looks really nice! All she’s ever done is a good moisturizer and spf😊
I don’t drive either, but usually for me at least, I’d rather order food directly from the restaurant’s website. It cuts down on the extra taxes that would typically occur on UberEats or Doordash.
Amy that’s good to know, I didn’t even think of that. Thank’s Amy. And how do you order directly from the restaurant’s website? 🤔 because most times when you do that (I’m speaking in a general sense lol) the website directs you to like Ubereats or Doordash 🤔.
What’s something you’ve stopped buying to simplify or save money? 🤍
Cheap makeup!
I’ve stopped buying mugs! My family got me an ember mug witch keeps my beverage nice and hot, where as any other mug would not have kept it hot at all. Best switch ever!
Candles! I just reuse old leftover wax from old candles and make new ones out of it :)

That’s awesome Marielle! And it’s crazy how that works. I found the exact same thing. The less I use on my skin, the happier it is 🤍
A friend of mine buy a magnet for every place they visit, I have done it recently and it makes me happy everytime i go to the fridge!
Hi Ashlynne, I have been binge watching your videos and wanted to tell you that you have such a lovely and calming voice :)
I love watching sweet young things talk about minimalism because I realized I am finally completely in style at 60....all those things that you have on your list I have done always and instinctively because I am frugal and eco conscious....to me it just makes sense....except those underwire bras....need them Lol😎👌
Another great video! I am curious if you meal prep? I’d love to see you plan meals for the week! 😀
Thanks! And meal prepping is something that I’ve only recently started doing! Maybe once I’ve gotten better at it, I’ll make a video sharing my meals 🥰
Watching this in a bathtub with some bath salts. This is my way of stress relief lol. I agree with everything else though.
That’s awesome! And hey, if you use them that’s great! I just never used them personally 🤍
Exactly, toners, I've stopped buying them, using them for a year, and my skin is as good as it was when I used them, so nothing is changed
Depends on a toner and ingredients😉 Toners with acids work wonders for chemical exfoliation.
I stopped buying toners as well & I make my own instead with water & apple cider vinegar in a glass bottle. This works out so well for me & my wallet, plus it really helped clear my skin!
I actually stopped buying panty liners and pads. I got these awesome charcoal infused resuable ones and they've been great. Easy to clean too!
where did you get them? sounds like a great idea!
I only use the disinfectant wipes when cleaning my toilet. Otherwise everything gets all-purpose cleaner and/or white vinegar. Yes im aware I can do the same on the toilet but I mentally can't not use wipes so I don't feel like I'm cross contaminating .
I can’t live without my eyelash curler. I only have one. Q tips I use everyday and I use to clean very small Areas
That’s awesome Hassie! If you use and get a lot of value from your eyelash curler you should by all means keep it! 🤍
I bet you will miss the music 🤍 that’s what makes life more colorful and warm... I am sure the ads on RUclips Videos will disturb you 🙏🏼 greetings 😘
?
I love these videos! Some of these don’t apply to me and some of them are different from what my lifestyle is, but the ideas are fabulous and help me really take a look at all my stuff
If there’s a public library in the area near you, think about getting an annual subscription (if possible). I love reading, but don’t want to buy every book, so just borrowing is a lot easier and cheaper.
Also definitely toying with the idea of nixing underwires.
Ooh yes! Fully support this! 🥰
Loved the point about mass produced art. I wish more would choose to invest in something handmade! :)
Yes!! Same here 🥰
Hey Ashlynne great video. I stop buying fabric softener, mouthwash, toothpaste, We make our own mouthwash and toothpaste also we use the wool balls and vinegar for softener.❤
Amazing list Cathy! And I love how you’ve made the swap to making some of these products yourself too! 🤍
That’s amazing!
How do you make your own toothpaste???? That’s awesome
Concealer is the 1 out of 2 makeup items that I use sometimes lol I completely agree about the drinks when eating out!
Ive been trying to minimise how much stuff I have... I always owned nice luxury or sports cars and paid a pretty penny for them, now I own a car thats 16 years old and cost the same as a set of tires but honestly it does the job and I wouldn't change it!
I'd add two more:
Thanks Jasmine! And that’s great! Hope you can find some good alternatives for those items 🤍
I use vinegar instead of fabric softener...so inexpensive & effective!
My makeup supplies can fit in my 2 small pencil cases (I donated all my makeup bags and decluttered almost all my makeup)
I own only 1 pair of plain black heels and 1 silver one (this is a gift and I use them)
I have a total of 8 bottles of nail polish... I used to have a shoebox full of them... I decided to keep the ones I really 😍 on hand but I just kept it to 8 only
Love this list! 🤍
I have wool dryer balls that look like little sloths. They are so cheery!
Great video
So informative and cool point of view
I have overcome most of the things listed here as well but it's still a progress
That’s awesome!! 🤍
I agree about the greeting cards.
Hyram would be so happy that you dont use a toner lol. I just hope you use an SPF with your moisturizer too :)
Where do you buy your loose leaf tea? and what's your favorite kind?
I would love to be able to use some of my recipe books to make stuff but for me timing is everything. I do like simple recipes with just a few items not the detailed ones with a whole lot of items.
Dryer sheets intrigue me. They're not common where I live and it was only watching vids like these that I knew they existed!
Interesting! Yeah, in the Stats at least almost everyone uses them!
@@sweetsimpleslowlife2709 I will definitely have to try one out then and see if it makes a difference. :)
You can also use your local library to check out DVDs (and books) for free!
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing ✨
i couldn't agree more with what you said.....almost felt like you were speaking my mind....i am gradually moving towards minimalism.....one thing i stopped buying is toys for my kid....and i have heard this from all the parents that kids don't really play with the toys....they play with the toy for 2-3 days and they are done.....i absolutely find it waste of money and too much clutter in the house.....I instead buy books (to a min) for my kid (second hand).
Yeah, coconut oil is actually a fantastic makeup remover. I especially love it for removing eye makeup ✨
Ashlynne Eaton oh wow cool, I didn’t know that. Would coconut hair oil work as well, or just it have to be like straight up regular coconut oil.
Yes thankfully we don't need cookbooks anymore with the internet! Great little video, lots here that I didn't even think of until NOW! 👏
Omg I have oily, acne-prone, aging skin and if I skip a day or two of my routine I can tell a huge difference. Definitely can’t give that up! Although I think I’m also a decade older than you 😂
Today I discovered your channel and I'm so glad I did. I love your content
Ah that’s so exciting Mariana! Nice to meet you 🤍
In Spain they don’t give you free water at restaurants, tap water here is really bad quality, so you have to spend your money on buying a bottle of water if you want to drink something when you go out lol
Same in Germany, while tap water is good quality, they will not give it to you for free lol
I switched to wool dryer balls but my clothes still get static. I’ve tried the attaching safety pins to the dyer balls trick to reduce static without any luck. Not sure what the issue is so I still have to throw a dryer sheet in with my clothes.
Hmmm interesting. I haven’t experienced that myself, but that’s good to know. I might have to look into that more 🤍
Static is caused by being TOO DRY. Lower the amount of time you are drying. When I switched to wool dryer balls, it cut my dry time almost in half.
@@spitchrock - yes! Also, synthetics are way more susceptible to static cling than natural fabrics.
I am also a minimalist, I have green eyes, hair & makeup identical to yours, I am obsessed with LOTR and we also save for a down payment (and can relate to many things you say in this video). We might be sisters 💕
Hajahaha me too! What a coincidence omg
Haha wow that’s amazing! 🤍
May i suggest to air dry clothes (i.e., not buying dryer sheets/equivalent AT All)?... It's more gentle to our cloths and eco-friendly =)
Good list of things to cut out. I'm 40 though, so I NEED toner & concealer. Lol!
Thanks for sharing this info! I am really trying to learn how to save money 😊
That's funny because it's the lord of the rings extended trilogy is what we kept as well as some kids movies (from our era, so harder to find/expensive) for our kids.
No. 44 is incredibly important ❤
ok is it just me or can you not imagine life without concealer and foundation??love the video !!💕
Meaning like you can’t go without using concealer and foundation or you CAN go without using concealer and foundation?
Thanks Rachel! And if you love foundation and concealer that’s awesome, use and enjoy them! Personally I just find them too heavy for me 🤍
Never mind, I just saw the comments, my comments weren’t loading before
This was a great video. Thank you.
Yes bralettes! It’s been two years for me and I could never go back!
I love this! Very interested about the salad dressing. How do you store it?
I don’t actually! All those ingredients are staples in my pantry so I’ll just whip it up whenever we make a salad 😊
Ashlynne Eaton ooh! Nice! I’m going to try that!
You don't have to empty/change it as often as the other products either.
My experience has been good!
Loved this video! Lovely lipstick, which one are you using? So you have a link for it? Thanks Indiana
That’s awesome! 😄
Hey! I did have acne when I first made the switch, although not as bad as some. I’d almost always have several active pimples on my face at once. What I found though was that after a couple weeks of water and moisturizer my skin dramatically improved!
Ahh that’s great! It’s worth a try then I think 😊
Same sentiment about the LOTR. We watch them very often, so it's nice owing the extended editions. :-)

Meaning of investment:
Investment or investing means that an asset is bought, or that money is put into a bank to get a **future interest from it.**
"when the block heels run out" hehe, great video
Haha probably could have said that better 😂
I agree with the delivery one, the only thing for me is that I have to use delivery because I don’t have a car and I don’t drive.
I don’t drive either, but usually for me at least, I’d rather order food directly from the restaurant’s website. It cuts down on the extra taxes that would typically occur on UberEats or Doordash.
That’s a totally understandable situation 🤍
Amy that’s good to know, I didn’t even think of that. Thank’s Amy. And how do you order directly from the restaurant’s website? 🤔 because most times when you do that (I’m speaking in a general sense lol) the website directs you to like Ubereats or Doordash 🤔.
Ashlynne Eaton thanks 🤎
I stopped buying: lip balm and shampoo instead I make it myself, all makeup products.
Where did you purchase your wall picture?
