- I SPLURGED on a wild Legit Ex-Competition Nascar V8 for my Street/Strip '55 Chevy Project! This is a RACING BEAST from top to bottom! It could have been on the front row at Daytona 2004! These super high compression V8s live over 8000 RPM and should make even more power than it did in a Nascar (750HP or so!) and Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew are going to put it to the test!
Thanks to Wilson Race Engines for the Dyno time!

So I sit here watching this and I'm crying because my dad died on November 3rd 2023. He was an old school drag racer. He had a 66 442. Was a street racer as well as a quarter mile racer. We are from Whitman M.A. he raced at New England dragway. His name was Richard "Dicky"Coughlin . My dad my best friend. He loved your channel. I introduced him to it like a year before he passed and he loved it! Just wish he was sitting next to me watching this! Thank u for your hard work in making a great channel.
Sorry for your loss man
I'm really sorry for your loss bud. Your Pop sounds like a heck of a guy.
My dad died August 14th 2023 unexpectedly after he got a clean bill of health great CAT scan he died four days later and he was big time into racing himself that man meant the world to me and then some he leaves behind three boys his wife and brother-in-law and I'm trying to take care of everybody here and it is so difficult I just want to go be with him I would give my soul for him to be back for 5 minutes I don't care I'm so sorry for your loss
I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I didn't have any real racers or fast car lovers in my family growing up, so my uncle got me started working on cars, but it was experience that taught me how to work on cars. I taught myself how to build engines, and I built a 4g63t Mitsubishi turbo engine that made 534 whp, and then I even built a Honda 1.8L four cylinder that went on to make 709 wheel horsepower. I have always been about import cars because of Fast and Furious came out when I was 18 and at the time I had a 302W swapped 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer that I installed an Explorer Express supercharger kit on and it was also jacked up with a Skyjacker 6" lift with 33x12.50 Super Swampers on it (but it was still only 2WD). Right now I have a 2013 BMW 135i as a daily driver, and I have some bolt on mods and a tune, but it's a daily with a warranty, so I can't get too crazy with it. Still, I'd LOVE to build a high horsepower domestic someday before I die.
@@Brock_Landers that is absolutely amazing man yeah I used to be into it big time and I'm 46 now and I used to have a couple of Kick-Ass cars I had a 80 Malibu wagon with a 400 small block that made 700 horse back in the early nineties it was a fun ride and I had a 94 Mercury cougar 4.6 with a turbo on it ran fantastic I got my dad's Silverado now it's an 06 it's lowered to the ground getting tired but I'm going to fix it all up as everything starts falling apart but that's part of life I guess that's amazing man God bless you and your family
These guys are legit. Dude running numbers in his head is impressive.
Yea they were killer to work with!
@@StayTunedTA Comes from Lots and Lots of experience.
Honestly, I didn’t know that was something a person could do…
I bet dude and his dyno is the stuff of nightmares for hype beast engine builders
@@StayTunedTA Awesome, my dream engine!
Love to see this in your 55 running . What trans are you going to run
&nojuI hi] @@williambehles7704
Man the ol school footage of ol boy Jenkins rippin gears with a stogie .... wow real man right there
I got the same vibe as if I were watching an old school boxing bout where all the cameras were on the sides of the ring....just like something epic about that!
Back when men were men! This younger generation just has no idea. Now I sound like a boomer, oh well.
That's how I shifted my 1980s, high school-built "street racer." (69 nova, 350 with a 3 speed) Good memories.
Man that engine is seriously cool! Didn't know anything about these.
Get one and put it in the TA lolol
25:04 when the dyno guy nods, you know its good
Yea he was very happy with the results!
@@StayTunedTA I wasn't even there and so was I. Dyno guy is a true class act who knows this stuff. Awesome vid
I’ve never been so excited about a build on RUclips before…..the 55’ is gonna be awesome!
Let's GOOOO, thanks for watching!
Can’t imagine shifting a 55 at 8 grand. I’m sitting here pretending.
Finney not going to like your small block running with that hemi.
@@StayTunedTAplease tell us you're backing this with a Jericho!
I'll bet Finnigan feels the same way, knowing this engine will be 50x more reliable.
Around '96, I took a bellhousing to a guy in Sun Valley, CA to have some tabs welded to it. It was in a packed, nondescript industrial yard, littered with rusty machine tools. Inside, I found him asleep, tilted back in an office chair at the welding table. Stacked 6" high, all around were cylinder heads, all NASCAR pieces. Turns out he was THE guy to weld up certain passages in order to make them reverse flow. His white beard came down to the edge of his welding helmet, and he said he hadn't trimmed it in over 2 decades. If you weld, you know why. Neat guy, and a fun experience for a car guy like me. Legends are everywhere, and if you stumble around, you'll find them.
$12,500 is a awesome deal Tony you scored.
Would be perfect in a sprint jet boat. Enjoy
Agree boat drag engine
With the consistent quality of this channel and the people, the ability to buy stuff like this will become easier and easier. No way this doesn't keep growing like crazy. Like Cleeter, Derek etc., it's like hanging out with good friends.
We really appreciate the support!
Apparently I need a better class of friends
@@StayTunedTA I absolutely second this, I was introduced to your channel quite late, but even still I see nothing but progress you guys are kicking it
I am so jealous of that motor!!
That 55 should be called
“Moonshine”
I like it!
@@StayTunedTA Ya and it revs to the moon!
Paint it black call it "shiner" cause it's gunna give out some black eyes on the quarter
@@sambozeman5266 I was thinking the same with a dark purple to black transition paint. Definitely "Shiner"
Chris Wilson knows his stuff. So cool to see him on your channel. He dynoed my 402 LS on his pump and it made 649hp.
Hello curious what you are using for fuel?
@@waynetessier3058 VP C16
Now this is what I’m talking about!! Super high compression, 400 inch , 8000RPM small block with a Dominator. You’re going to need a Jerico trans behind that or a faceplated tremec if you want to shift at the moon!! Always have great content. I love this!!
Oh for sure we are going to run a proper crash box!
Faceplated Tremec 👌🏿!
8:45 Bill Grumpy Jenkens. Fucking legend
Absolute PA Legend!
@@StayTunedTA The Grump would have loved that engine.
He was the first Pro Stock car/driver I ever saw in person. It was around 1971-72 at a match race in central CA.
Tony had the full emotion rollercoaster. I think I even saw him throw up in his mouth a little hahaha I know he drove all the way home with his jaws hurting from smiling!! Great job Tony gonna be killer. Please please please put a boom tube on the shoe box!!
Hahaha for sure!
We’ve all been there with a fresh build. It’s always pins and needles. Even worse when you buy a used high dollar motor from a stranger
@@StayTunedTA What a deal. I wonder what it would cost to build a 340 comparable to that. A high-spinning small block is like music to your soul.
Did I see you loading the 55 at Bristol at Freedom 500?
When you guys build the headers, you should build them like they did in Nascar. Tuned, equal length, with the 4-2-1 stepped collectors with true boom tubes. It would sound amazing!
Tony displaying the regular Italian two day growth between workshop and dyno
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"The internet is a weird place man!" Truer words have never been spoken! 😂
Yep, just wanted to say good score on the engine Tony. Without it, there is no fukin way ur gettin 820 horses in that guys engine shop! 🤔 🤣🤣🤣 (weird right?) 😂
I was laughing when he said that! 😂😂
***You seem to be such a cool guy and car builder and thank you for letting us know how much this motor was. Not many people do that so I really appreciate it and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well. Btw, I really liked the vice grip garage build, that car is awesome, you guys did a great job! Man I wish I could find one like that. Thank you so much for all your awesome videos.***
Thanks so much for watching, we appreciate it!
One video with Derek and a man can go shopping 😅 😂 lol
Love a good dyno session and the huge smiles on your faces looking forward to the build 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Your genuine happiness about this motor is awesome! Can't wait for the videos on this project.
Respect the sacrifices to make a project happen - a lot of us are very familiar with that feeling!
We do what we can for the people!
Dyno man is a crazy pro!
what a great scientist to have in the chamber!
Morgan McClure X Pipe and Boom Tubes are a must.
Stay Tuned is one of the highlights of my weekend. You never disappoint. Congratulations on your Dyno results!
Such pros. Glad to see you hooked up with an insanely knowledgeable crew. Makes a scary purchase much more palatable.
Couldn't agree more!
@@StayTunedTA WIlling to share roughly what it cost? Was it refreshed or just a pull out
@@gordocarbo he tells you straight up what it cost in the beginning of the video. $12.5K
@@thomasceruzzi1871 I missed it, thanks.
12.5kis a frigging steal for that engine. Got 6k more than that in a lousy Gen 1 383
Yeah, I didn’t figure less than 20 used. Sounded stout too!
Stay tuned just keeps getting better! Love those revs!!! HELL YEAH STAY TUNED BEST DAMN SHOW ON RUclips 🤟🤟
Thanks a ton! We are working hard over here week after week but it's a blast!
Love all the info that the old school engine builders have. Could watch them build and tune for daaaays!
Stoked for your purchase!
Gosh, it's always a treat watching a dyno day with seasoned engine builders.
So much knowledge.
Congrats on beating 800hp!
Something about high rpm NA that always beats turbo noises.
Love the channel.
Good luck on the '55.
Your 55 is gonna be nasty with that engine and a stick, can't wait to see it together.
The best was when the dyno operator asked Tony, so what you wanna do now? Tony: I wanna unhook it and take it home in one piece 😂😂😂 smart man!
This thing is going to be insane in your ‘55 with a manual. Can’t wait guys, keep up the great work.
Awesome video, so happy for Tony and his buddies, the channel is taking off and only going to get bigger and better. That has to be a great feeling for Tony and his crew, knowing they took the risk and gamble of becoming successful in the RUclips world, just so neat to see it all happen in front of our eyes. Keep rockin boys, we’ll keep watching! 🤘🏼🇺🇸
Man, it has been a ton of work, late nights, tons of energy and dollars invested but it's all been a labor of love and feels amazing that we are seeing a lot of growth here. Appreciate each and every supporter. Thanks
@@StayTunedTAI’m sure bud, I’m not too far from you guys. I’m from Altoona, PA. I’ll keep supporting and spreading your content to fellow gear heads.
P.S. Those Hendrick valves covers are so cool, I hope you keep them. Looks like they have a specific bolt pattern anyhow. 😂
Lenco trans, plllleeeeaaaase.
You're projects continue to impress. Nobody does it like you Tony (and team). Keep it up.
Found you from the VGG collaboration. Subbed and excited for this build! Engine is a monster!
My man, that bowtie was singing my favorite song! Can't wait to see that in the car! Awesome motor. Just awesome.
That. Noise. I can only imagine hearing it in person. Congrats on the purchase, Tony! What a wicked engine. Can't wait to see the build in the '55 with this beast!
Go to NASCAR Cup race and hear 36 of them at full tilt at the same time
I love the bibs man. I rock em as well. Awesome engine. Been watching for a long time. Good luck with the build.
Cool video! I'm here from NNKH's channel. I'll be watching your stuff in the future. That motor is an absolute beast!
The excitement (and relief) after those small problems was awesome to see. Sounded great and will definitely be fun in the 55
Definitely a few bumps in the road but we made it happen!
Hi, Tony! Have followed you from your other TV show. You push the limits. I do not expect a reply, but had to comment when your video had “1955 Chevy” in the title. Your NASCAR engine small block is amazing- However, I could identify with your excitement- way back in 1970. My car did not have your NASCAR horsepower or modern tech. But- it had tilt - fiberglass front end, 55 hardtop, 4 spd, 4.56 gears, and a sb 350 Camaro engine; after using a Z/28 ‘0ff-Road service cam & springs, 12.5:1 TRW pistons, FI heads, and 780 Holley, balanced with flywheel- Redline was 9300rpm - On the street, There is something unique driving a 55, with instant explosive power in any gear. Keep shifting hard, Tony !
Dude, appreciate you following us to RUclips! That '55 sounds like a real wicked car, and I would be stoked to have a rip in that thing! Thanks for the watch!
Chris Wilson , legend ! I was hanging on his every word . Great engine man . Nothing sounds as good as an American made V8 at high revs .
The best video you’ve yet I loved it. I think what put it over the top was watching you and how nervous you got when it was on the Dino and when you had those couple glitches you got real quiet great great video.
thats one rowdy engine god damn
Rowdy x10!
Video died right at the 675hp pull! Luckily you guys got it fixed without keaving me hanging too long, i just refreshed the video and finished it right away.
800hp is killer, that thing is going to be fun.
Sorry, little YT glitch, but we're back!
So much respect here, for all of you, especially dude behind the lever and the screen. Been a hot rodder all my life!!
I’m truly happy for this guy… Tony is one of my fav tv car guys, always real, and you can tell he is legitimately stoked to have an engine that any real gear head would dream of having! Congrats on the results, and can’t wait to see it in action!
Amazing what a simple pizza will do for a crew of guys. Spirits instantly lifted! What a motor 😭… brings tears to my eyes hearing her on the dyno.
My first hot rod was a 68 camaro with a solid roller 331 that peaked at 8,000 rpm with a tremec tko 600 5 speed... it was a riot and only 500 hp to the tire. I can only imagine what 811 hp would be like! Congratulations!
I want a V-8 that will rev to the moon 😂
TA this is a fantastic channel, the excitement and passion for the builds is incredible
Tony I love watching your channel because of all the cool different projects you actually work on, not just buy to drive home and park it for 2 years.
Keep it up man! Can’t wait to see what you do with the 55
I'm guessing you can say goodbye to the restrictor plate
That dyno guy is thinking, never again 😂😂😂
Hahahah!
Outstanding, excited for this build.
Nice piece. Looking forward to seeing the finished 55 with this motor.
What happened there? Video suddenly went private halfway through watching it?
Yeah, not sure. Back in business, fortunately!
Saw the exact same thing happening
I thought my TV turned off
Sorry ya'll, glitch with YT but we're back!
yeah same no idea????
Because it would be boring to just get a motor, throw it on the dyno and go home.
What kinda' content is that ?
A little suspense, mystery, problem solving, conclusion. Maybe a romance started. And the happily ever after.
You guys rock . . . ✌️😎
Can’t wait to see this put together. Sounds amazing on the dyno.
Love the engine... Love your channel... And a special thanks to Wilson race engines, these guy's got their $h1T together. ..
This is going to be amazing, can’t wait to see more.
As a fellow pizza aficionado, I have a shirt idea for you:
Front: small pocket style “Stay Tuned” logo.
Back: “Pizza team with a racing problem”
Might just have to do it!
Love it! Great to see another one back on the road!
Really enjoyed your video. I had the privilege of working with my father in a automotive machine shop for about 10 years. He was like this guy running the dyno he could figure out what was wrong before anyone else knew what was going on. He was a master mechanic, machinists, welder just amazing. I miss him so much he was my hero. All the young racers loved him he was always ready to help and teach them. They all showed up at his funeral to show their love. Just blew my mind how much the guys all loved him. Good luck with your build on the 55!!!!
Man, I got screwed on having a 347 stroker built for me by 2 machine shops.
The first machine shop that was supposed to do the job. Charge me $7600 to build one and they Screwed it up now at that point I couldn't just throw in the tail. I had all that money already spent on this motor so I had to take it to another shop to have them correct it.
They charge me 3800. And still something doesn't seem right with the motor. Oh, I almost forgot that's not including $3000 on a forged rotating assembly.
You can't trust machine shops today. It's a shame. Congratulations, Awesome Motor
I think you have to check behind everybody period if you don't have the measuring tools buy them!
@@thomasward4505 Hate to hear of your experience; I was lucky to have a Chevy mechanic and racer, to help direct the parts and used a local racing machine shop, back in 1970- more difficult to trust, today and aftermarket parts can be unreliable.
@thomasward4505 if I know what the clearances should be and have the tools, I would have checked
Name the two shops so others can avoid
Unfortunately your story is very common.. There are lots of guys that build one for themselves, and it works because the parts they bought just to happen to line up tolerance stacking wise.. They don't check clearances that should be checked and verifed, or proper cooling/oiling mods to stock blocks.. Then they think they can do it for others, but the tolerances don't always align and they end up tearing up lots of peoples stuff. I have had a few motors built, and I have always used shops that build motors for circle track/dirt racing. Those engine guys get lots of business, and know how to put an engine together that will sustain high hp, along with high rpm for a long time.. Not these drag builders that try and make a motor last a few seconds at a time, to then claim, "Well thats racing for ya".. I have always trusted circle track builders over drag builders no matter what my goal was..
I can't wait to see this going in the car and driving .....This is awesome !!
I'm pretty excited about this to get into your car. Great video! Thanks!
What a jewel. Homerun on that engine buy. What a great shop and guys helping you out. Winning!
This is BIG fun! Nice find.
Tony I've been watching you since you popped up in automotive TV and I can't be happier for you. This engine is an absolute ripper and it will be awesome to see that 55 ripping around a track somewhere screaming through the boomtubes. Great purchase and start to another build series but don't forget we want to see how that v12 runs in the mustang.😅
Awsome! Can't wait to see this heartbeat rip some things up!

That was awesome!! Can't wait to see this in the car!!!
I'm so happy that you got this motor, Tony. 300K subs here we go. Congratulations
I've said it before, I'll say it again, the best channel on RUclips. Your nervous excitement was great to watch! Engine looks and sounds amazing, hurry up and get it in the '55!
Congratulations, that's one killer engine! Loving the channel man! 🐲
Ive been watching you since the HRG days on motor trend. You and the boys put out consistent high quality videos. Hope you have continued success for many years to come.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching.
That's gonna be great. I can't wait to see the video of you doing cool stuff in it. Great motor dawg. Happy Easter to you and yours.
Very cool, sounds unreal love it! Looking forward to seeing this run in the car! Onya tony
I spied that thing a while back in one of your videos and am stoked . Sb2.2’s are amazing. High rpm small block letsssss goooo!
Liking what y'all are thinking for the 55. Old NASCAR moonshine runner vibe now your talking. Really like the channel y'all do amazing work. That motor is crazy. Can't wait to see this project done.
Love those engines. Always wanted one
That small block sings!
Super sick Tony, that thing is guarenteed to put a smile on your face! 👍 👍
You definitely brought that engine to the right shop. The kind of guys with that kind of experience, knowledge, wisdom, and passion are getting rare. Even worse, fewer people are making the time to learn from them.
I been telling my friends that I would love to have one of those nascar motors even after they ran it for a race forever. They are some badass engines. Good for you guys can’t wait to see it in your 55 with tires a blazing 🙌🙌🙌 awesome video thanks for the entertainment 👍
I was tensing up hearing that motor spin like crazy. What a beast, it will be big fun on the street and track.
Now THIS type of content is THE WIN!!! Hope you can make some absolutely epic videos with the moonshiner vibe '55 screaming through the woods, drifting and roosting. So stoked for it! Are you going to figure out how to run it on E85 so you don't have to keep loading it up with expensive race gas?
Love the direction of the project! Building my truck with the same thoughts in mind and a 4 speed!!
Congrats on the engine Tony! Have had several automotive wet dreams over that setup.
