Hey Scru just some context for Zach and Mat’s verses since they had some amazing tie ins: Metal Sonic is the robotic copy of sonic in CD where his main appearance is a race against him in Stardust Speedway, hence “Never lag behind in a race, the road's dusty” but some of Zach’s lines also refer to Sonic Heroes where he’s the twist villain, having developed shape shifting powers to copy far more than just sonic, as well as sentience that results in him betraying eggman, hence “I'm basically another you, with everybody combined“. His last line about the Devil is a reference to his transformation at the end of that game (complete with a sprite for visual) into the Metal Overlord. Mephiles is the villain of Sonic 06 and Mat packed a TON of fantastic references into a character most people probably wouldn’t have taken so seriously. He’s from the future and is basically in a Cell situation where he’s incomplete so he goes back in time to absorb his other half, which is where “for centuries I've been on the ledge, of an experiment” comes from with how he was sealed away in 2 parts. “In the shadow of shadows, I'm underground” is how Mephiles starts out as this being made of pure darkness but possesses Shadow’s shadow for a body which is why he looks a lot like him. “Rapper, the master, spitting flames of disaster” is a reference to his other half Iblis, basically a lava kaiju known as The Flames of Disaster. And the last line about 06’d is a triple play. There’s the obvious 0-6/six feet under meaning but in the game Mephiles actually DOES succeed in killing sonic and he has to be brought back to life (“Kill the King”) AND Sonic 06 was a game so bad it was decried as the death of the franchise at the time.
