cool, I'm a ship's electrical engineer, I worked on rivers
Lena, Volga, Danube, on sea vessels, but I have not been to the Mississippi, it is very interesting to see river tugs on your river, interiors and equipment

Great captain. Rode first mate for him for a little over 2 years. Some of the last of his kind of boat operators

Hey Captain. I live in OKC, Ok. desperately want to start working on the water and work my way up to Captain. took a few basic classes in orlando like basic fire fighting, survival, couple other coast guard certified courses. Where can I possibly get on as a entry level deck hand??
I am a little older, done management, construction, heavy equipment-operating and hauling.
not afraid of hard work. Just decided to pursue my life long love of the water. Navy brat from San Diego. thank you very much if you can give me some lead. No body has ever been sorry they hired me.

Start with one of the many towboat companies. Western Rivers, ARTCO, Marquette, Kirby, Blessey, Ingram, or others though google search. Start out as a deckhand, and learn your way up. Good luck to you, sir. It can be a rewarding career.

I wish I could go back out there and cook again. Just not ACBL. I heard that was the worse thing I could have been through as a cook.

Why did you have to catch this boar? Was the last captain sick or quit or maybe ran out of logging hours?

Some of the whitecaps I have seen on the Tennessee would come over the sides of that boat.
Watertight (?) doors or nothing to get wet on that level

It is like a lot of jobs, in that it definitely has some days better than others.
I don’t think that I have ever become so jaded that I could not appreciate quite a bit of what I do. I genuinely feel very fortunate most of the time.
Finding a career that I have been passionate about did involve some lucky turns, but doing stuff I like has always guided me on this path.
