How deep does the section get passing through Vicksburg? It was always incredibly turbulent there at flood stage, and I always wondered it's depth near the bridges.
When waiting your turn do you pull out and move down a little way and pull over again and repeat until you go through? There was 7 boats in front of you I wondered if you pull over and back out 7 times or just move once.
Captain, I have a question for you. I canoed the entire length of the Mississippi and passed hundreds of these barges on the way. I had always wondered how a canoe shows up on the radar. Does it register as just as a log would or other piece of debris or do you even notice it without a visual? Also, many times at night the spotlight from a tow would light up my tent in the middle of the night. Do you guys scan the shore at night for navigation purposes? Thanks. Like watching your videos also.
nickadams7 Canoe shows up on radar, but you are right, it looks the same as a log or other drift. Getting a visual is really only way too tell the difference. When there is a lot of drift, it not only is dangerous for canoe because of risks of you getting hit by a large piece of drift, but unless visual confirmation, a canoe blends in with drift, on radar. As far as searchlight at night, it could be anything from a fella a looking for a place to stop, to just being curious and checking out your tent.
