Awesome stuff My Dad was a Captain for 25+ years worked for Wisconsin Barge Line, Conti carriers and More ! He passed away in his Room just outside of Louisville on the Ohio. I worked for ACBL, Conti carriers and ADM !
I really miss this My Dad was a Captain for 38 years He worked for Wisconsin Barge line, Conti Carriers and many more back in the day he passed away on the boat in his Room right outside Louisville in 1983.
I'll be honest, the main reason i subscribed to your channel was simply to gaze upon the mighty waters of the Mississippi river. I absolutely LOVE the in-depth looks you provide for the powerful waterway, and consider your filming POV the best way to truly capture the feel of how vast and powerful the Mississippi is.
@@manfredvonrichthofen4738 Manfred, I worked for Brent Towing based @ Greenville MS back in 1973 and 1976 -1978. Starting pay, 1973 was 15.00 day 2 ×6hr shifts. After getting a tankerman ticket Brent paid 25.00 day + 10.00 per barge pumped. Decked on Jessie Brent, Margret Brent some smaller ??? Brent on the Missouri River. I was young then.
Thanks for the video! Nice! My granddaddy was very well known years ago on all the rivers! Capt. Andrew Jackson Phillips! He trained many many pilots throughout his years! His last boat was the Laura Lee. Early 1960's
Golly, I wish I had worked on becoming a river pilot or captain instead of going to college. I enjoy your videos so much. Would like to meet you sometime, you seem like such a cheerful person.
In another video you are in New Orleans, pushed up on the bank and you point out the Lulling bridge and way off in the distance was the nuclear power plant. My son in law is a chemist at that power plant. They live in Lulling, having recently moved there from Hahnville. At there old house the river was across the street from them. We could see the ship traffic real well. I don't get down there much right now as my dad's health is not good and I help take care of him, so sometimes your videos make me feel a little closer, thanks.
All the boats you show always seem to be clean, neat, painted up, should I say "ship shape", but I never see anyone working on them. How do you all keep everything so nice even on an old boat?
Little late to the party but... When you lay into the bank you just keep enough power on the engines to hold against the bank? Ever worry about grounding?
This is definitely not the Chicago Sanitary & Ship canal. Good days for a deckhand. Tow is made. Check wires and tighten at start of shift. Coffee time! When that river water gets in the your blood, you cannot get it out no matter what you do.
Nothing in the world can get you ready for your first barge ride with a full size Chevy truck 150 gallons if gas, a couple four wheelers and all your hunting junk. A guy with a 40 horse on a aluminum boat pushing all that while trying not to get killed by the tugs. At night You will find GOD if you didn’t know him already!
I always hated dry tow, chem/red flag is where i was happy, stressed but happy.. And then there are the "twin bridges" in memphis which are a nightmare with some captains
I’m in a hunting club where the White and Arkansas run into the Mississippi. I’ve had tugboats coming up and going down the Mississippi at hit me with your search light. I’ll put it too you like this, first your eyes say it’s a good thing. They your eyes oh no this hurts. Then the big one, oh dam I can’t see anything. Other times they may or may not have put me in a Big Buck!!!!
It wouldn't hurt to get to know someone on a tow boat. I used to do work on upper Mississippi tow boats years ago. Now I'm retired, but still have a coast guard chief engineer's license. It used to be that a tow boat engineer didn't need to have a license at all. I'm not sure if that has changed since I've only worked on ocean going ships for the last 20 years.
@@takinitoutdoors450 There are 3 companies that I know from previous experience long ago and I see that they are still in business. You could always start as a deck hand, then work your way up as you get to know the boats & crews. Look into: American River Transportation Co. (ARTCO), American Commercial Barge Lines (ACBL), or Marquette Transportation Company.
Thats pretty cool. I live in pekin, lived by the river all my life, been kinda kicking the idea around of looking into working on a boat. Somthing different.
Thats kinda what I figured. Guess it makes it steer funky if you're weight is off to one side. Y'all have much problem with prop drift / walk or use counter rotating wheels? Any way love the videos. Lots of interesting info. Love to learn new stuff keeps the mind fresh.
Right on. My family and I were at lock 25 at around 3:45ish, and the Brooke McKenzie was locking down the first part of her tow heading south. I must’ve looked like a damn fool trying to see if that was you at the sticks haha
It varies. I am posted on many rivers and able to ride any vessel. The company puts me wherever I’m needed. I have a different situation than most others. A lot of the time guys have regular boats.
marktwained hope you come up soon I would love to see your vessel come through Cincinnati also keep up the great videos there is about 8 boats I like that run the Mississippi those are the M/v Dru Lirette M/v Bill Atksion,M/v Don Boling,M/v Gernald Majors, M/v Mike weisend, and M/v Buckeye State,M/v Christopher M.Parsonage,M/v Henry J Shoulder III

I envy you in every video. You are blessed with some of the countries most beautiful scenery at work. Thanks for sharing it with us a little bit.

Hopefully he was at peace doings what he loved. Beautiful part of the Ohio I live close to that area.
A beautiful looking towboat. Two thumbs up for the cleaning crew! Another great video, thank you. You make me feel that I am right there with you.

Very cool Skipper! Wish I was there. Hope you're having a great summer!
Loved the way you sped the video up, excellent!
Sunrise and sunset on the water is a little slice of heaven. The Columbia River carving through the desert is a whole nutha thing.
Sure enjoy your vids. Nice walk thru the engine room. If your still aboard the Janice Strait please tell the crew she would pass anyone's inspection.
I’m home
well kept boat...very professional!
Holy moly, I have never seen a fuel barge before. Awesome!

The cleanest engine room I have ever seen on a tugboat.
Great job greatcrew and captain engine room spotless and love to listen to them 0l EMD'S ron rdzl

Straight across from Rosedale. Big Island , Mozart that’s some pretty part of the world!
Awesome video! Can you start a new episode.... interesting how the daily challenges seem like nothing.
Cool. Awesome video. Love the lights of Memphis and that awesome sunrise. 👍👍👍❤️
Great exhaust sound when walking out of the engine room!
RlfRottn should hear them as they pass or just running up the river from the bank. Such a unique sound.
Smooth running EMDS
I really enjoyed this clip..!!!
had twin 1300 MAN in Hinckley 55 back in the day. Few bug pickers use them to on the coast.
Dude ill never see that bridge in another way again!! lmao
Felicitaciones para tripular ese comboy mis respeto piloto bendiciones desde colombia

Crew busts their butts. Some the fellas don’t want to be on youtube, so I try and respect their privacy.
Well give the crew a big thumbs up for a great job.
What company r u guys i work for ctc
great video. nice engine room! i shared.
I work on a much smaller tugboat and it’s good to see what the inside of these line boats look like
Are you still working? Your videos are Very enjoyable
Great Video and Nice Boat !
I Love the Engines! I would like to see more of what makes the boat go if you could. Please?
Maybe next trip I can. I’m home now
Thanks!

Awesome video
can you just poke in the bank any where you want to or are there places designated fore you guys to park like that have a great day be safe.
I've tried watching a few of your videos, but the constant movement of the camera gives me a headache. Beautiful area though.
10/4 on the Dolly Parton bridge.
nice video👍👍👍
I wish it would rain here in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It is so damn HOT!
Why is it that the member with the shakes and St. Vitus's dance is always given the camera?
I work in the fleet and I see this boat and the stone strait all the time
What is the reason for having masthead light on or off above and below the Huey P Long bridge?
That was some heavy rain back there.
Little late to the party but... When you lay into the bank you just keep enough power on the engines to hold against the bank? Ever worry about grounding?
Yes, and yes
great videos!!
Goes well with coffee. Nice!

Es sorprendente, dan ganas de pilotar un remolcador de estos.
What’s up capt that looks like the old Janice strait poured a buncha paint sweat blood and tears on that boat
Makes me wish i worked on the river.
What ever became of the delta Queen?
hey got a question? what's the time frame for being on the boat vs off the boat. how many days on and how many off?
Is it just You on the boat ?? Do you need a cook ? I'd work for button, just to be able to go up and down the River !!

How long is your barges length of a football field?
Each barge is 200ft long. So 1 and half barges are length of football field. (We go 7 long sometimes) 👍🏻
You gotta' great job there Cap.!
Very pretty
HeyCaptain, how much fuel is maximum fill on this boat?
Thats one fine tugboat!
EMD 20-645s?
Why havent you posted lately? I enjoy your videos..
What do the deckhands do. What's there job
How much does the boat get paid to push all that
Shipping rates vary widely. I really don’t know that information.
Do you take passengers? I'm from Europe and it's on my bucketlist to once join for a trip on a tug on the Mississipppi.
No
I always hated dry tow, chem/red flag is where i was happy, stressed but happy.. And then there are the "twin bridges" in memphis which are a nightmare with some captains
Try to move the camera slowly. Hard to keep up ..
good video tho. More engine room please.
Please explain hours of service requirements. Do you have a mate to work the helm when you are sleeping, or do you stop?
There are two licensed wheelmen on boat. Pilot runs when captain is off. Each man works 12 hours a day.

Hastings mn lock dam2
When you shoved in the bank to let other boat pass, are there rules on who gives way in that instance.
The down bound vessel has the right of way.
👍👍always 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸!!!
Are you going to be up in the alton il. Sometime soon.
I’m home, so not anytime soon.
I got to run this area of River with the Coast Guard for 3 years. Hot as hell but a-lot of fun
Being skilled in mechanical and electrical maintenance, what do I have to do to be blessed with a job on one of these beautiful boats?

I'm an old river rat-catfisherman, damn I'd love to ride with him from New Orleans to Memphis!!!
Hey kyle, how many times you think you've been by pekin, peoria area on the Illinois river.
I started my career on Illinois River. Been up there many many times, just not as much nowadays
Thats pretty cool. I live in pekin, lived by the river all my life, been kinda kicking the idea around of looking into working on a boat. Somthing different.
Capt just asking why was the boat set more to the starboard of the tow and not midships?
Weight distribution, with loaded and empty barges. We don’t alway face up boat I middle of barges, but we try to get in middle.
Thats kinda what I figured. Guess it makes it steer funky if you're weight is off to one side. Y'all have much problem with prop drift / walk or use counter rotating wheels? Any way love the videos. Lots of interesting info. Love to learn new stuff keeps the mind fresh.
No prop drift to speak of
Dude your awesome. LOL!
What boat you on skipper?
I’m home
Right on. My family and I were at lock 25 at around 3:45ish, and the Brooke McKenzie was locking down the first part of her tow heading south. I must’ve looked like a damn fool trying to see if that was you at the sticks haha
I got off the Britney Lee at lock 10 last Friday
Are you guys assigned a boat, or does it change every time you come back from being off?
It varies. I am posted on many rivers and able to ride any vessel. The company puts me wherever I’m needed. I have a different situation than most others. A lot of the time guys have regular boats.
Pan the camera more slow. Take more time with shots. Remember, your viewer is seeing everything for the first time and needs time to process the view.
How long has it been since you been up in the Cincinnati ohio area
Been a few years
marktwained hope you come up soon I would love to see your vessel come through Cincinnati also keep up the great videos there is about 8 boats I like that run the Mississippi those are the M/v Dru Lirette M/v Bill Atksion,M/v Don Boling,M/v Gernald Majors, M/v Mike weisend, and M/v Buckeye State,M/v Christopher M.Parsonage,M/v Henry J Shoulder III
How many barges?
Up to about 40
Does the triple screw have a 3rd throttle lever or does it just slave off of one of the twin throttles?
Separate throttle
Negative ghost rider I would end up wrapped around something !!!!!!!! That barge is too long !!!!!!!
Slow the camera movement down. Cannot see what you are wanting for all the jumping around movements. Likely would be a good video except for that
How many miles per gallon
On a hard northbound shove, about 6,000-7,000 gallons per day
Lol more like how many gallons to the mile
⚓ON THE THUMBS UP BUTTON
steer the god damned boat dawg..show the people what deck crew gotta do being out in the rain
shame no one has came up with a rudder on the frt.be wide open no flanking again
? Don’t understand comment.
meant like a lil barge with a rudder, chained to the front, remote controlled.n steer frt also, instead of just the ass part.
They do have such a contraption... bow assist propulsion.
I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
thanks for takeing time to respond seen depth finder on boat n made me think that might work.
be ruff holding up on bank.n stuff running in inthe ground
🎥👍🙏🇫🇷
pan slowly with the camera
Sorry. I’ll try to in future
Hold the dam camera still long enough for the viewer to focus on something.
Sorry, usually video is my secondary concern
😄
TAKE THAT CAMERA AWAY FROM THAT MAN! He makes the viewer dizzy with his wild swinging of the camera.
just breaking you in so you dont get sea sick...lol
All rivers in Missouri run downhill just like every river on this earth, that will not work on a round earth, it can't, but it will on a flat earth.
Jerry Peters you taking the piss?
*_jerry, what in the fuck_*
It's definitely a flat earth
Jumpy camera work.
I’ve been told. I’ll try to improve 👍🏻
Too much camera swinging, made me dizzy.
Video work is horrible. I couldn't watch more then a minute.
