As a former Perks of Being a Wallflower, Hunger Games, and Looking for Alaska kind of teenager, the “how many boys thought that you were their manic pixie dream girl?” made me audibly gasp. It wasn’t my Goodreads, but you saw into my soul just then.
i’m so glad i got judged in this and i made you laugh! and also if it helps i dnf-ed the night circus because i decided i wanted to listen to it on audiobook for the vibes, so that one’s just on hold for the moment. great video!!!
@@jmsl910bit late to the party, but I’ve read the Night Circus! In a similar position to you, I had to start over a couple times to get the ball rolling. It’s very much a book more focused on the atmosphere than the plot, so you have to be in a certain headspace to read it imo. When I read it I didn’t really get the hype, but it’s very much a book I could go back to in a few years once I’ve forgotten the plot and am not at a point where I’ve got low mental energy.
I love how you aren’t shaming people for their interests and kinks, just making it into a light joke we can all find funny. I hate it when people shame, but you do a great job at making it funny and not shameful. I found this very entertaining, and also a little called out…😂❤

utterly terrifying when you said "it's Capricorn energy" and I, a Capricorn, looked up from my work to see a Goodreads shelf that looks just like mine 😂 so, uh, I guess that was accurate!
There are a few reasons why I don't rate all of my books on goodreads, the main ones being: 1) I want to give said book a half star (i.e. 3.5) but goodreads doesn't facilitate that 2) When I joined goodreads I added a load of books I'd already read, and felt I couldn't accurately rate them retrospectively
Storygraph allows for half and quarter star ratings! You can also upload your goodreads shelf directly so you don’t need to manually put in every book you’ve already read
@@CGyog aftg means all for the game, mdzs is mo dao zu shi aka grandmaster of demonic cultivation and tgcf is tian guan ci fu aka heaven official's blessing
7:00 has a similar taste in books to me (although I haven't read any webcomics other than Heartstopper) so that was interesting. Also my average rating is 4.6 and I think it's more because I added a bunch of books from before I had goodreads that I read a while back and rated the ones I remember really liking as 5 stars but didn't rate the rest, so both there's the imbalance and the fact that they probably weren't that good I just remember them as better.
I made a Goodreads account to track what I read (before I just wrote it down in a notebook) and also added a bunch of books at the same time (like, 20 years of reading). Some I rated based on memory - if I remember liking them, 5 stars- and some I didn't rate at all. For some, I changed the rating a few years later.
I completely agree about ratings systems. You can't like every single book exactly the same unless you're the easiest person to please on the planet. As for me, most books are about a 3 star read. I don't love them or hate them. They're fine. But every now and then I get one that's terrible or one that I love. So I use those ratings too. Just not as often.
Please make a series out of this!! 😂 Loved your comments on mine, it made me laugh out loud a lot, not gonna lie! And it was a great start to the week! Thank you! 😄
Why so many unrated books on Goodreads? For me the answer is that I had around 60 years of reading before there was Goodreads. I try to enter books that I know I have read with the approximate dates that I read them. But it is usually a bit much to supply a star rating. I may not remember them well enough to give a fair rating. If I do remember them, I may be conscious of the fact that I would rate quite differently when I read them than decades later. So I skip a rating unless I decide to reread books I read long ago.
Omg when you said that minimalistic it’s Capricorn vibes I almost spilled my water off my mouth, cause I’m a Capricorn and my Goodreads it’s exactly like that! Also, I have a Virgo boyfriend and you nailed in that description too!
In defense of people with high average ratings: I used to be an avid reader untill like 3 years ago and started reading again maybe a year ago. It isn't a habit like it used to be and so I only want to spend my time reading books I will most likely actually really like and not spend my time on books that are just okay or not fun at all and I think a lot of people do the same
12:30 I wish I could stop reading a series I don't like but- what if it gets better in the end? Or in the next book? How will I know this if I drop a series? Also, the feeling of completing something, I only get it when I'm finished with a book/series
The commentary kinda reminded me of Joe from You for some reason, him thinking about people in the bookstore or whatever and that just makes it funnier😭

I always grade on a "this was such a fun read/experience" as a 5, "this was really good but there was something that held it back", "it was okay I guess" as a 3, "no thank you" as a 2 and a "why the fuck did I read this?" as a 1. I do admit though I have rated 4/5 before on "this was written really well and I recognize that but it really wasn't my thing - I don't want to label it poorly for that reason as that seems cruel" I love seeing the various comments and the breakdown of how everyone else rates their reads; it's always fascinating to get others' perspectives since while we all check the ratings, they come from very different starts.
