Mental health hack: try doing things you don't want to do but need to (like cleaning and chores) while baby is awake. Then save nap time for things that really fill you up emotionally. No chores just pure joy and fun.
Yes!! And don’t be afraid to get your baby used to noise while they are napping. I made a point of vacuuming, running the dishwasher/washing machine, having the tv on...and it’s made things so much easier not to feel like I need to creep around (which always leads to me crashing into something and being even louder anyway) when I finally have some time to myself. I feel like those few weeks of her waking up more was 100% worth it now
This is where wearing a baby carrier is vital. I dont understand why this is not a more normal thing. Baby rode around in your belly 24/7 prior to birth so that's what is normal for them!
@@autismenlightenment I’m always surprised by the pro baby wearing folks, because while healing from childbirth, and dealing with stress on my posture from constant nursing, the last thing I want to do is wear a baby on my front! I do it when necessary but it’s not good for the postpartum (or any) body!
@@Visaviel have you tried belly binding? I got one on etsy. Check out willow wisteria channel by a mom of 5. I hear you on not wanting to do things because you mentally and physically need a break.
You are ridiculously good at this and NOT annoying omg. Best mom vlog easily. I love that YOU are the subject of the vlog NOT your kids. I'm a mom looking for ideas, I have my own kids people! You never seem full of yourself. And you're pretty funny too. I can't imagine putting myself out there like that so I also think you're brave. Well there you go! have a good night.
Jess, you are such a light. I'm not even a mom yet but I still watch your videos cause I just love how your personality exudes Jesus and his love. You're like a giant hug for my soul on some days and boy do I need it!
One of my favorite hacks in washing baby socks in a delicates bag so I don’t loose them in the wash or around the house. Having a place to put dirty socks is really helpful! So easy and simple.
First time mama of a 12 week old here and the best advice I was given was to put babe in a swaddle when you have to clean their nose! We have the snot sucker and there’s nothing more daunting than trying to quickly clean the boogs while your LO is thrashing around and crying! Swaddling keeps their arms contained and makes the entire process fast & easy. My little guy got sick at 3 weeks and this was a lifesaver 😊
YES I have a 19mo toddler and am currently 6 weeks pregnant so the snack life is real!! Fun hack: play an upbeat playlist when you get overwhelmed or need a boost--turn everything you do into a song or dance party with your kids! Music really helps me when I'm having an off-day
Totally agree with the stroller hack! If you have a great stroller, you're going to want to push it around, especially outside! That's been huge for me on my maternity leave. We live in Canada where it gets really chilly which makes it hard to get out as much as we'd like. When we can't get out because it's freezing, I notice a huge difference in my mental health. Getting out and breathing in that fresh air is exactly what we need and makes me feel a million times better.
If you have a toddler and a baby get a large toddler play gate/fence thing.(or Mush furniture together to make an enclosed area) You need to have safe places you can put the toddler while you are super hands on with baby. It saves so much pain because your toddler is super mobile but also doesn't understand why he shouldn't do everything he wants. It's really a kindness to the toddler to put them in a safe place where nothing is off limits. Nothing is worse than trying to nurse while your toddler pulls everything off the bookshelf. (Ok lots of things are worse but it FEELS like the end of the world)
I felt that comment about the crying baby while showering. I have that problem with the car seat. My little was born during the pandemic, so she doesn't get a lot of car seat time and really freaks out when she's in it for any longer period of time. I just have to remind myself that she's not going to die being in the car seat for another 20 minutes. 🤣😭
I definitely second singing. Also mine loves to look in the mirror so now that she’s a little older I’ve moved the car seat mirror so she can see herself!
Use pacifier clips to secure toys in the stroller or baby carrier so they don't fall on the ground when you're out and about. This is also useful when in a car as the toy doesnt end up completely out of reach for the child.
My toddler is pretty good at entertaining himself, but loves to try to help with chores. Having something for him to do that’s similar to whatever I’m doing (give him Tupperware or spoons to play with while I’m washing dishes, he even has his own broom for when I sweep floors) makes him so happy and feel so helpful.
Pacifier Weaning Tip: I was able to get my daughter to a point where she only had a pacifier at night, the trouble was getting her to sleep without a pacifier. If I took it away, she would just scream for hours into the night. It was agony for everyone. The solution I came up with was to snip off the end of the pacifier's rubber nipple. Every two days I would use scissors to cut the rubber a little tiny bit shorter until there was just a small section of rubber attached to the base of the pacifier. She got to have the familiarity of the pacifier at night so no tears or wailing, but each time I'd cut a bit off the paci it would be less satisfying for her to suck on and harder for her to keep in her mouth. By doing this I got her to peacefully lose interest in her pacifier in a little over a week and a half. (My daughter was about 18 months old when I did this. It worked really well for her.) I wish you good luck!!
Starting my first son on Elimination Communication. At 18 months he was potty trained and now when our second is born in a couple weeks, we'll only have one child in diapers. Introduce Sign language early Sick babies/toddlers: nurse as long as possible. My son was about 17 months old when he got VERY sick. I marathon nursed him for a week to keep his fluids up. He had the comfort and the fluids. He would not have taken any cups of fluids. This really really protected him and healed him. If your little is resisting food, ask him/her to feed it to you. He/she'll find it fun and then you say "your turn!" and then it's like a game. If you have one child who's young and you're pregnant, buy a baby doll and have your first get used to being around the doll.
Great hacks! I’m pregnant with my third. Due any day so freshening up on the newborn tips is great. I also have an almost 2 year old and a 3 year old. I recommend sleep training/schedules to all my friends having babies. My kids nap at the same time and go to bed at 8pm. My husband and I get evening time together every night which is great for my sanity and our marriage is thriving. Also, as for pacifiers, this might not work for everyone but we just never introduce them. I love to see my kiddos smile and if there’s a pacifier in their mouth you miss out on the sleepy baby smiles and playful smiles and every picture of them reveals their whole face without an object in their mouth. It has worked for us and I plan to follow suit in a couples weeks when our third arrives.
My kids are the same age omg and due with third baby anyday now. Congrats! Just thought I'd share I always get strange looks waddling around with a tiny toddler and a super toddler being this pregnant lol! But we could not feel more blessed!! So happy!
Same boat with you guys! My oldest just turned 3 and I have an almost two yr old with 8 weeks left in my 3rd pregnancy. I love the “ oh you have your hands full” comments in public but I always smile and say YES! God is faithful..because I love my little growing family.
IDK if this is considered a hack but if you have a baby/child in diapers you can keep a bag or in my case a tote with a few diapers, a pack of the dollar wipes (or any choice) and a clean sippy cup/bottle in the back of your car because I ALWAYS forget my 1 year olds diaper bag! Also i just wanted to say THANK YOU for everything you've taught me. You got me through my first year of being a mommy!!!
I love you so much! Thank you for finding the time to continue posting videos, Jess! A hack of mine for my 10 month old son is when I am desperate for a nap in the day I get him to somehow fall asleep in my bed with me. Usually he doesn’t and would prefer doing a cannon ball off of the bed and go play but I use a low key, sleepy cartoon to watch with him and give him a bottle. Then after fighting me to get a good comfy position, he will finally fall asleep then I get at least a 3 hr nap. Usually he only naps an hour and a half. We listen to ocean sounds and I wake up feeling so much better :) it’s the little things. Xo 🤷🏽♀️
I agree, well fed is SO important and helpful! I also always try to not only have extra layers of clothes stashed in the diaper bag or car, but extra clothes themselves. My boys (18 months & 2 months) will leak or have blowouts periodically, no matter how on top of diaper changes I am. Also, I try to have an extra shirt for myself, because as a breastfeeding mom sometimes I leak haha, and then sometimes the spit up gets bad.
My hack would be recycle things, cardboard tubes, boxes and yogurt pots are great for messy play, pouring and paint pots. The pouch caps are great for colour sorting games and water play. Also keep baby socks and clothes for imaginative play, for example pretend washing machine out of a old box, colour matching or dress up dolls! Don’t have to spend money on toys when you can make them, no need to feel bad throwing them away once done with as was trash anyway! Thanks for the videos Jessica
I love all those hacks. The food hacks are great, I'm also food oriented😁 but especially the shower hack, I will do that once I delivered and have my baby..5months pregnant here.. please pray for me . It's my first..🙏😊
I am so proud of you Jess. Seriously! I’ve been following your life journey since you had Eloise and I can’t say this enough, you are such a strong, person with an amazing amount of personal development and I idolize you as a mother. I don’t have any kids yet but we went through a major depressive episode at the same time that video came out a few years ago and the fact that we’re both Jessica’s and going through (not the same thing but similar feel kinda something) for some reason helped me so much. You give such good advise and I hope we would totally be friends in real life if it was physically possible in the pandemic world. Lol keep going girl because you’re going places and your world is going to be so different and stable so soon. ❤️
I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. I found your channel through your baby 101 video a year ago, and that was SO helpful. My daughter is 9 months old now, and I really appreciate your reassuring manner😊 As far as hacks, I save a lot of money making my own baby food, and it takes literally a minute to blend up canned fruits and veggies if you don’t have time to prepare/cook them yourself first. I bought the reusable pouches from wee sprout on Amazon, they’re dishwasher/freezer safe, and I love them! Also, I’d say never buy baby or maternity clothes full price, and shop used if you can. It’s such a short amount of time they’re used, they’re often still in great condition, at a fraction of the price (and now I’ve started a Poshmark closet, to sell things as she outgrows them, and the clothes I’ve accepted I outgrew too, haha).
I don't know if these "hacks" have already been said, but: >those envelope- like folds at the top of onesies allows you to roll them _down_ baby when there's a blow-out diaper >if you think baby will pee during a diaper change, then run a wipe along their lower belly (near the groin) and blow on it. The cold might get them to go pee in the diaper you're changing (it doesn't always work, sorry) >When baby is having a meltdown, find out if it's serious or crocodile tears by making funny faces/ playing games with them. My baby hates when I go to another room, so I'll peek my head out and make fart noises... when she laughs, I know it's not serious. 🤣
I have no tips, my daughter is 4 months. But I did read that any effects on the mouth from a pacifier will not be permanent before 2 years old, so you have that going for ya! My daughter Faye isn't really interested in her pacifer while she is awake, more as a tool to help her go to sleep so I think that is a great first step for you *thumbs up* Love you and your channel Jess!
Don’t have any babies just yet, but another paci clip hack is to clip it to the car seat/shirt with a little toy attached! That way they are entertained and it’s helpful for you to not have to pick toys up from the car so much! ☺️
I recently asked my mom how they weaned me from my pacifier and she told me they had the babysitter do it! We had a very loving and very no-bullshit Irish babysitter and apparently she just told me one day that it was lost and gone and dealt with my tantrum and moved on. Make somebody else the bad guy! LOL No but seriously, often kids find things like that easier when they don't come from the parents. Good luck! My little babe doesn't take a paci which is a big headache now but I guess saves a different headache later..
My brother was 2months old when my mom got pregnant with me lol. Everyone thought we were twins growing up from age 3 and up lol. We were so close & still are
Dr. Harvey's 5 S-es were really helpful for us. Even if they didn't always work, it felt reassuring to have a mental checklist of things to do/try. It helped me feel more confident.
FTM due 01/31/2021. Thank you so much for this video and your continuous up beat positive vibes! Love the recommendation of getting a stroller you love. I was gifted a second hand stroller (which I greatly appreciate) that isn't ideal for newborns and am not sure how frequently I'm actually going to use it. Might end up investing in a new one. Another RUclipsr suggested this, too. Instead of wasting time and money, just buy the expensive product you want upfront!
Pro tip regarding saying no: try saying “____is not for____.” instead of using the word no and before redirecting. Ex: I am not for hitting. You can hit the pillows if you’d like. Worked for my fam!
sing goofy or sweet pop songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I sing wacky tunes at story time in our local library. Babies and toddlers love sweet silliness.
A friendly FYI (you may not have meant attached to the harness Jess but others might interpret it as that) about dummy (pacifer) clips in the car. They shouldn't be clipped to the harness of the carseat because if you are in a crash, the forces will be localised where the clip is rather than distributed evenly throughout the whole harness.
If your kid doesn't like a dinner you've been preparing for the last hour or so, add on a spoon something that he or she enjoys like an ordinary bread, it works in our case. Of course it works if you still feed your baby.. I know the older, the wiser they are 🙈 and give them controlled freedom! Prepare the surroundings and let them go instead of watching their every step to not touch something etc. You've got more "free time" and they can explore and learn more:) I've even made some lower shelves all over the house just for my son, while I'm doing my things he's just busy with his shelf and toys/spoons/plastic bowls hidden there :) and washing mashine with locking option - lifesaver when you neeed some extra minutes on toilet 🙊
You can do this, mama! Those first few weeks are a beast, but then it gets so much better! Keep yourself fed and sleep when you can. Sending you love 💕
Seriously you are AMAZING, never ever forget that. Something that really helped me when I was struggling was saying out loud "it's okay to step away" a quick break with baby in a safe place can really do wonders. You got this!!!!!
You've got this, trust me. Even when you think you don't, you do. Give yourself grace, it is a weird time nobody can prepare you for (except your first child). Just try to take the time to memorize your baby's face and smell, you will treasure the memories of what feels so hard now for the rest of your life ❤️
Ohh a list of snacks to offer to your toddler will be awesome! Something that doesn't be so messy ^_^I'm run out ideas...my kid is 13 months :) Saludos desde España!
@@priscillarocha8764 you can do it at any age. I took my son at 4 days old to the same guy that adjusted me in pregnancy. He said he adjusted his daughter before the cord was cut because she was misaligned from the birth. Proper alignment relieves digestive distress in adults and babies alike.
Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
I have 2 kids only 13 months apart, I just took the paci away from my almost 2 year old and what I did was switch my younger one to a different paci that looks way different than the one they both used and then snipped the tip off of the one I gave the older one. She spit it out and started fussing but I just had to let her fuss until she fell asleep. It took about a week of her fussing when we put her down for bed but after that she now knows not to touch her sisters paci.
Hey girl I have a good pacifier hack tell Wilson that he’s getting bigger and his pacifier is going to get smaller so every few nights tell him so check if it’s changing and every few days or weeks cut off a small amount of the tip 💜 I’m holding my baby while typing so if this is all over the place that’s why lol
My hack will be Elimination Communication which means teaching your child from infancy to use the toilet. I guess it’s not much of a hack unless you’re doing cloth diapers like I plan to, less laundry!!
Pacifier hack: my in laws told me this actually! You just gotta tell wilson to look at the baby and see that only little babies actually use pacifiers and that he is a big boy now and doesn't need it! Hope it works, it worked with my nephew apparently! Hahahah!
One caveat on nappy changes: do not change your baby’s nappy on a table in a crowded cafe next to someone eating breakfast. Please. It’s not sanitary, and those people next to you won’t be able to eat their food; they didn’t sign up for poop with breakfast.
What do you do when u hv a daughter tht wnt open up to others it’s jus me her mom n her sister I tell her village is important it puts so much pressure on us to do it all when she cld let others in too need help plz thnks Melissa
Being new mom you don’t get time to take of yourself especially skin care so if you are breastfeeding, use nursing pillow and put your baby on breast and follow night skin care routine or just simply massage your face. Use this to take care of yourself.
Mental health hack: try doing things you don't want to do but need to (like cleaning and chores) while baby is awake. Then save nap time for things that really fill you up emotionally. No chores just pure joy and fun.

Did that as well. Worked great.
Yes this worked for us too. The nose freida people have made a pacifier now that has like 6 and the nipple gets smaller and smaller for weaning.😮
So smart!!! My son is 19 mo and I've been thinking about working on weaning soon. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing
Love the hacks! Have a newborn at home and I find when I stroke his nose and eye brows it puts him right to sleep when he’s fussy!! ☺️💕
Gonna try this
Starting my first son on Elimination Communication. At 18 months he was potty trained and now when our second is born in a couple weeks, we'll only have one child in diapers.
Introduce Sign language early
Sick babies/toddlers: nurse as long as possible.

Yes. Having everyone fed is so important and being hungry (having a hungry kiddo) can really sneak up on you!
Can you possibly make a traveling w/ infant/toddler video?? I figured you’d be versed in this!! It would be super helpful I need advice!!
What a great list, especially for new mothers. We all have the think practical, think convenient.
Very great idea! Thanks for sharing ❤️
You look so well and vibrant
Watching this as I pump-and my VGMC sweatshirt is next to me since I wore it today!
sing goofy or sweet pop songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I sing wacky tunes at story time in our local library. Babies and toddlers love sweet silliness.
Thanks for such a lovely video Jess! Its so nice to hear such reassurance when having a tough week... and SNACKS!!! yeah, you gotta love them!
I’m so thankful for your videos. You are truly a light! 💙
HI ! I'd love to see some vlogs and DITL. Thanks for sharing
Haven’t watched the video but I needed this. I gave birth three weeks ago and am STRUGGLING
The newborn phase is HARD!!!!! It gets easier and easier faster than you think, just hang in there ❤️
You've got this, trust me. Even when you think you don't, you do. Give yourself grace, it is a weird time nobody can prepare you for (except your first child). Just try to take the time to memorize your baby's face and smell, you will treasure the memories of what feels so hard now for the rest of your life ❤️
You guys’ positivity is making me cry. I really appreciate the encouragement
Ohh a list of snacks to offer to your toddler will be awesome! Something that doesn't be so messy ^_^I'm run out ideas...my kid is 13 months :) Saludos desde España!
My only hack so far is that chiropractic care is really great for colic.
For what age ?
@@priscillarocha8764 you can do it at any age. I took my son at 4 days old to the same guy that adjusted me in pregnancy. He said he adjusted his daughter before the cord was cut because she was misaligned from the birth. Proper alignment relieves digestive distress in adults and babies alike.
Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
I'd love to see a day in the life video.
Hyundai should let you keep the car!
Hahahah!
I love hacks! 💖☺️

Barcelona, a cold place? Hahahahahahaha
When is Becca going to have a baby? 🥰🥰
