Hello and Welcome to Sunny Weymouth! Built in 1929/30 this hydraulically operated bridge, complete with halogen lights and bells, opens every two hours to allow access to and from Weymouth's inner harbour. The Weymouth Quay Tramway passes below the bridge on the other side of the river.

Nice that it still has the old bells which have been there as long as I can remember. The wig wags have been replaced since I visited regularly in the 1990s.
ooooh, didn't know this had bells!
Well now you know! 😀
Nice! Those barriers went down quite slow. Nice bridge too 😎
Thank you! Yes it is nice
Great one! Great to see the bells
Thank you! Well you can't really see the bells but you can definitely hear them 😂
Well in case you’re wondering, they’re mounted just behind the car side wigwams on both sides 😁
Very nice, I have seen the Bascule Bridge at Lowestoft being raised and lowered while waiting for the train back to Norwich.
Thank you very much!
Very nice!!!
Thank you!!
It took me like 4 years to realise that the wigwags had been replaced 😂
Bells! Bells sound so much better than klaxons! Am I right in hearing a recorded announcement beforehand? If so that's a great idea!
Hi Amanda! Thank you for your comment. I do love the bell sound, I agree they sound much better than alarms or klaxons. The bridge operator does make an announcement on the speaker before he starts the opening sequence.
