When farmers Cynthia Beretta and her husband, Mike, lost everything in a tragic barn fire, starting over was a daunting and tough task. But with the help of a loving community, they were able to get back on their feet and since then, Beretta Farms has been thriving and supporting farmers all around the country. Recently, they finally moved their headquarters out of the city and closer to home. The problem is, they’ve sort of neglected the catering and online division of their company, which is still located in the city. In her first-ever commercial makeover, Alexandra puts it all on the line with a bold paint color, a barn door and a DIY desk. Will Cynthia like the epic transformation? Watch the episode and find out.

The red is so intense. I understand it’s their brand color, but being on all three of those walls was a lot. I thought it clashed with the yellow tones in the wood floor and made my eye go straight up to the ceiling. Sometimes less is more. That said, i loved the decorations you picked and the faux taxidermy was perfect.

Exactly what I was thinking, maybe a white wall or a black wall to contrast with the red walls would have been good.

Exactly! She mentioned going with something that bold in your house would date quickly... why would it be any different in a retail space? It would’ve looked much nicer with most of the walls white and then that one short wall next to the barn door in the bright red. Also side note all of those plants are gonna die??

My thoughts exactly, I think the red on just the wall behind the counter and a nice white on the other two would have been 1000% better. Then get a nice wood sign laser cut of their brand name to put on the red wall.
She even painted the baseboards red 😭

I rarely comment on RUclips but I love bold colors so much I couldn't resist. When we updated our dark 70's style paneled basement that used to have one of those ugly DIY bars and yellowed lights for dingy poker games. We tore out the panel and other reminders of the previous owners poker night and painted everything ultra white and then painted the 24ft wall Giggle Green. Guests are always shocked when they first see the Giggle Green then about a 5 seconds later they always say that they would never be brave enough to paint something so bold it their own homes but it looks awesome with the rest of the space. Now it a bright friendly family space with tv, couch, table and chairs for games, crafts or pizza.

Well, to go against the other opinions, I liked the dramatic red that this business uses for the entry, its bright and energetic and is a great backdrop for showing there products. Love the black cow on the red wall, its fun and dramatic. I saw the client as being very happy with the result.

this was a tough one... it ended up waaaay better than before and was branded well so that is the positive. The not so cool bits were (for me) finishings - but you may have fixed them. The noticeable ones being: the water stain on the ceiling tile, the holes where the cow horns were and a hole in the wall behind the barn door. I know its picky but things like that take away from your professional finish. Again despite the negative, I think you did excellent and had clever ideas.

Great job! I love that you used their brand color on all three walls-perfect for their space. The wall with the Angus head, their name, and barn board underneath looks fantastic! I couldn’t tell where you put the blackboard... behind the counter? The only thing I didn’t care for was the plant wall. It seemed too modern/minimal to fit the theme. Normally, I love those wall planters, but in keeping with the “farm” theme, I would have asked Chico to whip up some little barn wood wall boxes, and put faux plants in them like grasses because, well, pasture. :-) Anyway, it’s a beautiful space as is!

I painted a small hallway red. It took 6 coats to get close to the intended red color and not be pink. I had primed over the previous color with white. After the fact, I learned that when you paint a room a dark color, particularly RED, you need to PRIME IN GREY. Ahhh...I took this advice when helping a friend paint her accent wall, and WOW! What a difference it made. One coat of grey primer and two coats of red...done!

Yes it annoyed me too that she didn’t stain the bench top to match the barn door. And I would’ve painted the side walls white or black to make the back wall pop rather than all red walls. I also would have cut the horns shorter for the bull and retouched the raw edges. And perhaps created a barnwood mount for the bull head. And I agree about the safety aspects. I worked as an OHS lecturer and consultant so the safety aspects are important to follow and demonstrate. Sorry for all the comments. I love what Alex does and enjoy following her.

      @EmRePhoto 4 года назад +3

Gina Kay Landis yeah but there are basic design principles that help make spaces feel open and comfortable for people. This makes it feel very closed-in and intense. Doesn’t matter if it’s their brand color. If people associate that space and color with discomfort, it’s not ideal for a brand. Idk. The way it clashes with the yellow in the floors makes it feel super primary to me. It may have been better if the trim was painted white or black to create a visual break from the red and yellow.

It was insane lol but as a kid I thought it was amazing XD

  • @shaynaformity1384

The boldest color in my space is crayola red. I *love* it - although some people get irritable around bright red, I find it balancing for myself. Yes, I'm weird! I have lots of other colors, too. Something wasn't right, though, and I saw a designer's comment on a video that about 70% of a room should be low saturation, so I looked up what low saturation meant. Boy, did I change some things in my living room! I added a low saturation creamy area rug - that included some muted red - and a cornflower throw blanket, and decided not to paint some decor items that I found in colors that I previously didn't love, but now appreciate. Now I get nourished by the bright red pops of color, and soothed/grounded by the low saturation surround.

Our kitchen walls are aqua/turquoise. It works though because it contrasts nicely with the warm wood cabinets. We also have a cork board, almost the size of one wall, that's vintage and came from a school that closed. It's the color of the cabinets. I use it as a command center for the house. The kitchen windows are big with white, cafe curtains. Accent colors are mostly white with pops of orange, red, and yellow. There's a vintage formica top table that was my grandmother's. I use it instead of an island for prep. We have a few orange, mid-century style chairs around it that came from a school too. It seems like it wouldn't work, but it does. It's bold, a little mid-century, and has lots of fun touches like vintage plates on the wall (that were all my mother's and grandmothers' /great-grandmothers'.)

I have a red leather sectional in my living room. And red leather chair and red rug in my family room. The brightest paint I have is a pumpkin (thing canned, not whole) colored accent wall in the family room. Great makeover! Love this new series.

My master is hale navy, one guest room has a deep hunter green accent wall, the other has dark charcoal accent wall. I moved away from all my grayed down light blues and greens, and decided if it’s a color, it needed to BE that color! Fully committed! Lol

I love what you did! Bravo!!!!! I love the bold red. It really brings everything work together and adds warmth to the place. I love bold colours. My entrance is a magenta colour with white ceiling . Where I lived before I had a narrow wall in the hallway that was purple and it looked great with the Chinese embroidery I had hanging on it.

I love this commercial space! You get to try completely different things than you would in a home. I wish the butcher block matched the rest of the barn wood and stained wood, but that's just me. Well done Alexandra!

The boldest color in my house is the accent wall in my bedroom. It’s a warm golden yellow and when we first opened the can it was like a dark mustard yellow so we were scared! But it turned out perfect!

I don’t do intense colors but I’m loving a SW shade called on the rocks in my bedroom combined with grown up pink spread, rug, and curtains. I’m contemplating an accent wall in the color Mesa Peach by Benjamin Moore in this room though

I had 1 teal and 1 lime green wall with 2 teal/lime green/eggplant purple striped walls in middle school. It took FOREVER to paint and to paint over when I was tired of it......

As others have mentioned, it’s so easy and inexpensive to replace a dropped ceiling tile, it’s a shame that didn’t get done here.
I used that same IKEA kitchen island as the front desk for my business for years and love it so much - I’m just confused why you nailed wood over the bottom shelf when you could have left it functional for more product. Building crates or doors instead would have given the same look while giving the client storage for overstock or packaging, etc.

So cool! I do have a question. I’ve noticed you’ve been painting trim the same color as the walls in some of your videos. Is this a growing trend? Personal preference? Just wondering your thought process behind it.

Andrea Smith It’s been super trendy in Europe/Scandinavia for a couple years, it’s probably starting to reach North America now.

    • @RachelReiss

I live in a 100 year old apartment building and we ALWAYS paint the trim and walls the same color because there are moldings and pictures rails and baseboards and all of them have 100 years of paint on them, which means NO crisp edges! It looks more sleek that way, but still has the texture of the trim.
