      Can u help me with this. I can't get past the first left and right algorithms in his part 2 video. His up and up inverted are spun the opposite way of how he does it here in part one. So every time I try it I lose one or two corners from my original green side. Thanks.

      @@inlovingmemoryofdouglasmul5216 the notation is always as if you're looking at the described face top-down. So, Up is clockwise as if you're looking at the Up face directly, and U' is as if you're looking at the Up face directly and spinning counter-clockwise. As for the algorithm you're confused about, when you're trying to place the side piece next to it's corner, you always move "away" from the corner you're trying to place it in. So if the piece on top wants to go in the slot on the right corner, you're going to move it to the left (clockwise) first to place it like that. U R U' R' U' F' U F. Think of it as moving the side piece out of the way so you can connect it with the corner piece, then inserting the corner piece. Hope this helps!

      Jack Manuel Hot damn. Are you saying you learned how to solve initially from this video? I never really felt the motivation to stray from the method in this video, being content with an average 1 minute solve. It's impressive enough as a party trick.
      You mind sharing your motivations behind trying to be faster, and how you transitioned into a different method of solving the cube?

    • @ruthlessyoungman6562
      @ruthlessyoungman6562 8 лет назад +9

      Yup I learned from this video back in 2011. It was the first search result when I typed in "How to solve the Rubik's cube." And regarding improvement, I never really thought about it. When I first solved the cube, my first response was to try and do it again, but faster. Eventually the "beginners method" began to plateau for me, so I looked up tips and tricks on the internet and eventually stumbled across the entire speedcubing community and more advanced methods. After becoming proficient with CFOP (faster method), cubing just became incremental progress and learning new algorithm subsets.
      Major motivation for me now is definitely the competitive aspect. I have yet to win a local tournament, but I've gotten podium quite a few times.

    Thank you Dan, it took me a day and a half of going through this over and over. Every time it didn’t work out I found that I had made a mistake or misunderstood an instruction. The good thing is that after 6 “almost” I was truly improving and understanding my mistakes better so that when I did finally complete the cube I had truly learned more than just memorization of the algorithm. Much appreciated Sir!

      Kenny Pagel I know right. I feel nostalgic watching it. Back then, I only had a PS3 and I used that to go on youtube. So I was just replaying his videos over and over again. I still remember the first time I solved the rubik's cube. Good times.

    Dan. I want to thank you for helping me learn this. I learned how to solve the 3x3 from this video over 3 years ago. Just saw you on a Netflix movie and had to come here to say a thank you comment that I never left years ago. With practice I am now down to solving using your methods in just under 1 min 20 seconds. Pretty fast for not learning it till I was over 30 with my hard wired brain and all. Anyways keep doing what your doing and thanks again for teaching me one of the things I had on my bucket list for so long. Peace.

    What's up Dan. I used this video back in the day when I was in middle school to learn how to solve the cube. I will never forget the first solve your video got me to. That was 13 years ago, and thanks to this video i've been casually messing around with rubik's cubes the entire time. Not to mention the fact that thanks to this I found your channel and other projects (I think Dan 3.0 was coming out around the time). Truly an OG youtuber. Just got a new cube and I thought I'd come back and finally leave a comment on this legendary video. The solve still impresses people.
