Eddie Vedder is one of the most soulful and passionate singers of his generation...and beyond. That thing in his throat is his gift for phrasing and emphasizing every word & note of ANY song he performs. His ability to pull listeners in to his vocal expression brings the lyrics, and live instrumentation, to a level which absolutely transcends the majority of today's bands. The other thing which stands out about Eddie, this coming from a R&B/ Gospel stand, is his unwillingness to compromise his artistic talents for that of the music industry's greed & control. His approach to his craft & uncompromising stance, in the views of some industry insiders, may have limited Pearl Jam's_greater success...much like when Prince decided to challenge the music industry, and his label Warner Brothers, by notably changing his name to a symbol & marking his face with the word SLAVE (Google it).
Just wanted to say that I love how open minded you are! Grunge is all about feeling and expressing your emotions. That is why it sounds so raw and intense. Keep doing your thing brother!
@@MS-qu1rb Brah, Eddie Vedder doesn't even understand the lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter. He changes them from performance to performance, and when someone once asked him to explain the lyrics he joked, "Wait... you mean there's lyrics?"
This is probably one of my favourite live performances, the amount of passion in his voice is insane. Completely raw talent. Thanks for reacting to this. Yellow Ledbetter is another great song by them.
Love Pearl Jam! Eddie Vedder is my favorite songwriter! He gives his all as does the whole band is tight for over 30 yrs. There shows are over 3 hours long! You are always high when you leave! They are the only band that stood up to Ticket master for rising prices for their fans. They went to Congress to get lower ticket prices so all could go. No other hand would stand with them. My man Eddie put it ALL out there in his voice and emotions for this performance. One of the best Unplugges eps ever, along with Nirvana and REM. So good, thank you for reacting to this one.

One of the grunge classics. Other bands from this genre to check out are Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, and Soundgarden. Other great Pearl Jam songs to check out are Jeremy, Alive, Better Man, and Even Flow. By the way, you may not be able to understand him any better on the studio version. That was kinda the M.O. of the grunge era bands. Weird Al Yankovic once spoofed the Nirvana song Teen Spirit by trying to sing one verse of the lyrics with marbles in his mouth! LMAO...was too funny, but VERY on point.

You still have Chris Cornell & his groups Soundgarden & Audioslave to explore. Audioslave is the members of the group Rage Against the Machine with Chris Cornell fronting. Chris Cornell supported Eddie's entry into the Grunge scene when a lot of people didn't. They had a collab group called Temple of The Dog. Hunger Strike is a good song to listen from that. Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun is a good song from that group. Audioslave songs to check out would be Shadow of The Sun, Cochice, Show Me How to Live, Like a Stone...
Eddie Vedder is the lead singer and is Risen to Legendary status ! A great frontman !!! The only Grunge band to make it that still intact with original frontman. All the others died young ( Curt Cobain/Nirvana, Weiland/ Stone Temple Pilate, Chris Cornell/Soundgarden ) to name a few !
I believe Mother Love Bone was Pearl Jam before Eddie Vetter. guess how Eddie got the job. Andrew Wood was the original front man who died and his death spawned great toons like "Would" by AIC and "Far Behind" by Candle Box.
Thats what a "restrained Eddie" sounds like. Good god I have been so fortunate that all these artist ur reacting to I've seen so many of these people perform live. Eddie Vedder doesn't just sing, he feels that music in the deepest parts of his soul and its a beautiful thing. That grovel! The band certainly deserves credit as well. Great Concert!

Don’t worry about not understanding him, lots of fans have been listening for 30+ years and don’t know what he’s saying. Also, the type of singing is called Yarling.
Ultimately this song is about making someone the center of your universe...but they aren't at the same place. The Sun (star)/earth references throughout the song are so obvious. The earth needs the sun. The sun is just fine without the earth.

Greatest song of all time. Vedder = GOAT. I appreciate your reaction to this. If you have time definitely go through their catalog. Lyrically, Vedder writes the best songs. They have great songs that are fast, that are slow, that are punk, that are metal, and funk, and folk, and ballads, and heavy shit.
The “Unplugged” era...I looked forward to every time a new one was advertised. (Yeah, I’m old, lol) Nirvana unplugged was amazing. Alice In Chains was great too, but Layne Staley was in the midst of battling the F’n JUNK and was pretty messed up during their set. He was able to perform and do it well, but even the band said they wish he was sober for the performance. MTV unplugged was a great show. Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc., was all around the same time. This singer is the guy singing with Chris Cornell on the song “Hunger Strike” when they performed with the band Temple Of The Dog. Pearl Jam has a song called “Alive” from their debut album. That’s probably their best known song, if you’re lookin for another banger, give that one a listen to. Peace from Niagara Falls my friend, I really dig these videos.

I discovered this Unplugged video back in about 94 or 95 when it was only on VCR tape. My friend and would get high (or not) and watch this over and over absoulutely blown away with with the unuque places this band takes you. They go deep inside to make it absolutely transcendent. Back then I never considered the possibility of actually watching someone discover the music 25 years later. Not only discover it, but by someone willfully going "outside of the box" and, in many ways, experiencing very similar things as we did way back then. Thanks for the video. Watching your reaction immediate reaction to somehting thats meant something to me for so long was a beautiful way to start the day. Take care!

I vaguely remember Eddie responding to a question from an interviewer back in the day asking him to explain the lyrics to "Yellow Ledbetter" and him answering something to the effect of even he doesn't know what he's saying sometimes. It was such an awesome answer.
Aw man...you gotta have the lyrics up and watch that live version again. It is the deepest poetry. They are the Grunge Era of Rock which were thick with emotional expression, and in my opinion, Eddie is the KING of Grunge. Stone Temple Pilots that you mentioned is from the same exact time and genre. Good ear! Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pear Jam, Mother Love Bone...man...they are part of who I "am". Glad you enjoyed it, but truly...have the lyrics up and listen to the live version again...it is next level. Anyone who can sincerely appreciate Eddie, is a friend of mine. : )
That’s a resonator guitar made popular by black blues artists back in the early and mid 1900’s. They have a metal chamber to amplify the volume and have distinct sound compared to traditional guitars.
It is said,.. The singers Best homie had just passed when they "had to" perform this, hope this explains the extra pain and emotion he laid out that one 90s day.. . .
Vedder is another one of those vocalists that uses his voice line an instrument with groans and growls, etc. Robert Plant from Zeppelin is another one that comes to mind.

Hey just found your videos and I dig it, you seem like a cool dude with a good attitude to life and you're broadening your horizons listening to some of my favourite bands like PJ and Alice in chains. I can see where you're coming from in not being able to make out what Eddie is singing here, definitely look up the lyrics to this and listen again though, he's one of my favourite songwriters and this song is beautiful in what it expresses. YES Young man what you just heard was called GRUNGE ROCK started in the early 90s groups like Alice in chains , Stone Temple pilots , also Nirvana Sang grunge style. This song was written to his girlfriend when they broke up later on in life he ended up marring her started a family together then years later broke up. I recommend you watch a video that shows the lyrics because like u said it's hard to know what he is saying! I enjoyed your video keep up the good work ! Peace ✌🏽.
My all time favorite song by them and performance for that matter! Yeah same time frame as Stone Temple Pilots. He sings with Chris Cornell on Hunger Strike by Temple off the Dogs, their 2 voices are amazing in it!
Enjoyed the reaction. Pearl Jam has a lot of good stuff to explore regardless of whether you prefer slow or fast. I says alot that u cant understand the lyrics but you felt it. This song is a love classic and IMO the best unplugged performance. Eddie made u fell that he loved her frfr My favorite lyics "tattooed everything" the symbolism in the context of those lyrics is genius. Tattoo's hurt, so does love. I have felt both. and tattooed that pain to remind me of it. No matter the genre, this is top ten best breakup songs EVER............and they named it BLACK
Stone Temple Pilots were big around the same time, grunge era, early to mid 90s. There were a lot of artists that came along after PJ that emulated their sound, but I wouldn't put STP in that category. They stand alone. Having said that, i understand what you are saying about a similar singing style, but it wasn't something that happened all the time with STP. They also have their own Unplugged session and it's worth looking into.

I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh and twisted thoughts that spin 'round my head
I'm spinning, oh I'm spinning, how quick the sun can drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have all been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be yeah
Oh oh ooh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine?

Stone Temple Pilots that you mentioned is from the same exact time and genre. Good ear! Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pear Jam, Mother Love Bone...man...they are part of who I "am". Glad you enjoyed it, but truly...have the lyrics up and listen to the live version again...it is next level. Anyone who can sincerely appreciate Eddie, is a friend of mine. : )
2.44 - I appreciate your appreciation of an interesting voice :)
That’s a resonator guitar made popular by black blues artists back in the early and mid 1900’s. They have a metal chamber to amplify the volume and have distinct sound compared to traditional guitars.
It’s grunge, baby!! Thought you’d like it tho!! Life is beautiful !
Oh man you gotta check the lyrics and give it another listen.. Its one of the best heartbreak songs ever written
Check out how tight he grips the microphone getting that last part out. Its the only thing keeping him from falling off the edge into despair.
That guitar is called a 'Dobro.' Traditional in Blues and Country.
It is said,.. The singers Best homie had just passed when they "had to" perform this, hope this explains the extra pain and emotion he laid out that one 90s day.. . .
Vedder is another one of those vocalists that uses his voice line an instrument with groans and growls, etc. Robert Plant from Zeppelin is another one that comes to mind.
first time checking u out brother, gotta be honest , smoked my med and started watching y'all.... the funny thing is that U talk freaking fast but I understanded every word y'all said !! 😯😚💨💨😯 y'all's gotts a new subscriber brother !! ✌️😚💨✌️
Peace
Hey, oh
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by
Some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
Round my head
I'm spinning
Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see
All that I am
All that I'll be, yeah
Uh huh, uh huh, oh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Oh can't it be mine

I LOVE STP.
That’s a Steel guitar btw. The one you asked what kind it was.
I says alot that u cant understand the lyrics but you felt it. This song is a love classic and IMO the best unplugged performance. Eddie made u fell that he loved her frfr
My favorite lyics "tattooed everything" the symbolism in the context of those lyrics is genius.
Stp actually had there sound before mother love bone formed let alone pearl jam
