    This whole Unplugged performance is a masterpiece. This and Nirvana Unplugged delivered beyond expectations when they happened and have withstood the tests of time

    Hey Jay! WB! Hope all is well in your world. Just wanted to mention that one of my favorite things about this performance is that word has it that some of the band members were doubtful that Layne could pull this off because of the level of deterioration from his drug use and there is a point where he does some vocal acrobatics and Jerry turns to look at someone in the band with this smile that is more of a smirk, really, as if to say, "I told you so". I really believe the two of them were soulmates, in a sense. I really love this entire show, but that moment is a highlight for me!! It's at the 4:55, or so mark. Whenever I watch someone react to something with the same appreciation as I... I find myself a little more connected...less isolated, so THANKS!!

    Hey Jay, great to see you back, great reaction! You know as much as I love Layne and Jerry harmonizing, what really stands out to me as a close 2nd for this whole unplugged performance is that buttery smooth acoustic bass!! It just sounds so damn good, I know you do engineering, how come we don't hear bands utilizing that sound much, the only other band I can think of off hand that uses an acoustic bass is Brian Ritchie from the Violent Femmes, he plays an Ernie Ball Earthwood acoustic bass, that things a beast of an instrument..lol.
    FYI....Layne wasn't really in "decay" at this point, which I'm sure you heard all about on your Nutshell reaction, despite the band asking fans on several occasions to stop speculating about his condition that night. This performance was in April 1996, and was the first time he'd seen or been in the same room with the rest of the band in 2yrs. Demri, his fiancé, didn't overdose until that October, that's when he really started to spiral, but it was still a slow burn, he didn't pass until April 2002, almost 6yrs to the day they played this concert. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't in a good place at this time either, he was severely depressed and on again/off again with the heroin, but nobody knows if he was using this night.
    ✌💚

    Been a while. Good to see you back and doing alright. Luckily caught most of the stream for "The Wall" though it was fairly passively. Still really enjoyed the analysis. And I already see the previous comment beating me to recommending "Nutshell" from this same performance. Whole other level. Especially with you already acknowledging your awareness of Laynes state of being at this point in his life. Poignant wildly understates the tone for it. Enjoy. EDIT: Just read your reply to the other comment and now I do vaguely remember your reaction to that.

      And what was Layne's state of being at that point in his life, do tell. Maybe give Jerry and the boys a heads up too, cause they're still not sure to this day.

      Lol basically his succumbing to his battle with addiction and in the final chapter(s). Good enough for you?

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff 7 месяцев назад

      @@cortexmc13 ...Well it doesn't need to be anything for me, but I would think if you were a true fan, and respected the bands wishes in asking fans many a times about not speculating or spreading misinformation about Layne, specifically in regards to this performance, you'd be a little more diligent with some research of fact checking. He was no where near his "final chapter" or "succumbing to his battle with addiction" at this point. I know that's the popular narrative, but it's just not true. It wasn't all sunshine and daisy's either, he was starting to really struggle, but he wasn't in bad shape yet.

      @@sunshynff So, I normally mind my own business but this was just a bit too tempting. " It wasn't all sunshine and daisy's either, he was starting to really struggle, but he wasn't in bad shape yet." Also, "Don't get me wrong, he wasn't in a good place at this time either, he was severely depressed and on again/off again with the heroin". Perhaps you somehow KNOW something as fact that we don't?
