Installing a DDMWorks Backbone in my Saturn Sky

- In this video, I install a DDMWorks Backbone in my 2007 Saturn Sky. You can also install the same thing in your Pontiac Solstice.
The backbone stiffens up the chassis to keep it from twisting in the turns...which convertibles are prone to doing.

Definitely subscribing. I've had my solstice for almost 3 years now and am glad to find someone making content on the Kappa chasis.
Thanks Ray. I had the same problem trying to find videos for the Kappa platform. Most of them were from dealerships selling them. Very few talked about mods.
Thanks Mike, nice job, you show no fear!
Sky looks tight.
Just got the brace bundle and magnaflow exhaust installed on my sky redline. Very happy with the results
Awesome. I'm glad you like it.
Love a guy with a random muffler on his front porch!
Hey Mike Martin I have a Facebook page called Solstice/Sky club and I hope you don't mind me sharing your videos on there. Some of the visitors and followers ask me questions so to help answer them I shared a couple of your videos on the page.
I don't mind at all and hope the videos help your club. What's the link to it and I'll try to join?

I promote people to just share pictures, ask questions, or even advertise their vehicle for sale. I have had my solstice for little over 6 years. I work at a Mazda dealership and they constantly try to get me to trade it in but I won't. I even have the local GMC dealer I take it to, to get the couple of recalls done and they call me on occasion wanting to buy it. I even had the son of the owner of the dealership call me...lol. My Moto on the Facebook page is "go topless".
Mike Martin thanks for being the ultimate Sky guy. I've used your videos several times. #FLINKO
Looks fairly easy. Going to mine this year. Thanks,
It is easy. If you can squeeze underneath or have a lift, you're good to go. Plus, the bolts can be tight so be prepared for that.
What is the torque specs on that new backbone??
I installed mine not so long ago(Extreme/Race). Very good mod to start out with.
I agree. I was able to try it out for the first time at an autocross event this past weekend. The car handled much better than I could drive it. It was the first time I ever did autocross, though, so I'll give myself a break. It's a pretty easy mod if you can fit under the car.
In Europe we have an even better system by using 2 xframe plates welded together and stiffening the chassis by a big amount. Good thing is that it def. weighs much less than a plate like urs
Nice Mike your inspiring me to work on my Solstice GXP
Just do it. It's actually a fairly easy car to work on (although having a turbo may complicate engine mods). Every time you make a modification, it becomes more unique just for you. :)
My 08 Sol GXP now has a backbone identical to yours Mike. Good video :)
DaneWraith Awesome. I've done a couple of autocross days and I love it. Definitely helps in the turns.
thanks Mike, I have watched a few of your videos in the past few years. My 08 is more gorgeous than the day I bought her back in 2011. She only had 2698 miles and is still under 25k. I did the GMPP install 3 days after I bought it and chased that problem for 6 years. Finally got her running as she should. I am sure the backbone will
help with my cornering.. Hope all is well in your world .. . I am on the middle east coast a few hundred miles from D.C. I call her "Wiccan" cuz she's a witchy woman .... but she is treated like a queen. LOL
thanks for the info (please don't add music to info videos - it makes them very hard to hear)
Thanks for the suggestion. This was one of my earlier videos when I added extra music. Newer ones basically have music just in the intro, ending, and fast motion sections. Plus it's not as loud as the older videos as well.
How's the handling now, Mike? Big improvements?
I did some autocross this weekend and I could feel a difference. The Sky stayed relatively flat around bends.
I was curious how it handles as well. Same with all the mods you've done. Some you mention if you could tell a difference. Thanks.
Great vids hopefully u can make a vid of how to lowered the car.
Eddie Ex I haven't thought about that mod. Maybe some day.
Gotta remember clearance isn't all that much right now, AND... there are legal limits to keep in mind (for lowering and for raising for that matter) too.
Nice job like looks great, I've actually was thinking of a way to get more stabilization too
Thanks. If you go to DDMWorks website, they have 3 different sizes. I chose the middle one because of price and wasn't sure if I needed more. They have a beefier one if you really need to stiffen up the chassis.
Mike Martin it would be nice if the 1/2 inch was cheaper but I don't wanna much weight either
Cheaper...I agree. However, I don't think there's much difference in the weight between the 3/8 and 1/2 inch. That's why they didn't make it solid. To keep the weight down. Either way, it's an easy mod that helps in handling :)
Mike Martin true
Are you going to add the pro beam next
Looks great
Let us know how it works for ya
Keep up the great videos
They didn't have the probeam in stock when I got the backbone. I'll eventually want to add the probeam as well, but there's soooooooo much I want to add to this beast. Too much to do.....too little money :)
Do you like your short shifter ?
I’m going to order the bundle the brace I’m going to get the race brace the pro beam and the viper brace I think it’s called but I’ve been holding off because the pro beam has been out of stock
But that’s next on my list
Then the gmpp tune when they fix my recall for passenger air bag sensor
I guess they go bad
I have the passenger air bag sensor recall as well. Did you get it fixed yet? How much of a hassle was it?
Was this a how to video or a music video. Very difficult to hear you. The music was way too loud.
