Kon Tiki (The Shadows cover).

- Recorded and released in 1961, Kon Tiki hit the Number 1 spot in October of that year. It was written by Michael Carr, who also wrote several tunes recorded by The Shadows.
For all the anoraks out there, I used the wrong period guitar, it was intentional as I found the Rosewood fingerboard easier to play the slides/thirds of the 2nd verse. Backing track was from Roger Paulsson.
Equipment used, was a Fender Custom Shop 60's NOS Stratocaster into a TVS3 echo and then into my Vox AC15 C1.

This is very good! An authentic sound, and well played too! I still love the Shadows and Hank Marvin, and always will!
@@roberthaigh3206 thanks for listening, so pleased you liked it. Regards, Alan. 👍👍
Hi Alan
An excellent version of this Shadows classic.
I used to play it with a Watkins Rapier, and it matters not! Lol.

got to love the shadows
Thanks for listening Phil, glad you liked it. 👍👍
Nice track and much enjoyed Alan. One of the 'great' early Shads' tracks. I get your point about the double stops in the second verse as that's inevitably where I have the most difficulty with this number. I too have taken to the rosewood boarded Fenders and now very much prefer my Vintage II 1961 Strat above all the others for both feel and tone.
Thanks for listening Ian, there’s just something about a Rosewood finger board. 🎸🎸
Agreed 👍👍
Hi Alan, great rendition of this classic tune, so well played and good sounding - enjoyed listening!👍👍
All the best!

@@Shadsfan I love music Alan , and this hit my heart 💗
Great job as always Alan! I've been practicing various hits by the Shadows during the past year and found Kon Tiki to be one of the easy songs of theirs to play. I've found FBI to be the most challenging as the song requires you to go up and down the fretboard.
Thanks for listening Wayne, appreciate your feedback. 👍👍
Try "Man Of Mystery" then! It took me years to conquer that one.
NICELY DONE
Thanks for listening Carlo, I appreciate your feedback. Regards, Alan. 👏👏

Thank you for listening Ursula, so pleased you liked it. I’m from Scotland, Regards, Alan. 👍👍
How do I get that shadows sound ? Is an amp or pedal?
Thanks for listening Dave, equipment used is listed in the RUclips description but is just guitar, echo and amp. 👍
Even Hank said he doesn't play like Hank Marvin anymore. So pleeeese don't worry about the guitar, it's the player that makes the sound, ha, ha. .
So very true Val. 👏👏
Still listening Alan .
Yes you pretty spot on again with this great Shadows tune .Oh why did they go away from this echo sound and the Fenders to have a dull sound with Burns ?
Cheers ,
Roger
That’s a very good question Roger, from what I’ve read and remembered, tuning stability on the strats was a big issue and was driving a highly strung Bruce mad, so they started talking to Jim Burns and the rest as they say, is history. 👍👍
@@Shadsfan Yes and more`s the pity ! After the original ones it went downhill
Why no instrumentals today?!
Not sure what your comment means Norman, I do try to post a video every fortnight and my latest, Isle Of Capri was posted last Friday evening, hope this helps. Regards, Alan. 👍👍
@@Shadsfan Alan , hi I meant no instrumentals , generally , in the charts . "Wonderful Land " my all time favourite as was :"Saturday night at the Duck Pond"....I'm sure you know it ! Thanks , and keep 'em coming , Alan .
Ok, I understand Norman, I did Wonderful Land about 6 months ago and I’ll maybe have a look at SNATD.
Good reproduction
Thank you for listening, glad you liked it. Regards, Alan. 👍👍
As a TOTAL beginner would you say this would be the easiest Shadows song to learn. I'm guessing I'll be a similar age to you.
I think the double stops (thirds) can be tricky as they're played quite fast. Personally I think Wonderful Land is the easiest to play. 👍👍
@@Shadsfan thanks for your reply, I'll give it a go
Nice one Al, give that whammy a bit more of wiggle though
Thanks for listening Neil, appreciate your feedback. 👏👏
The beautiful bass lines are not there, which is the marked feature of this tune. 😂
Thanks for listening John, the bass lines are very clear on my studio monitors. Regards, Alan. 👍👍
Exellent
Thanks for listening Fender Strat…, glad you liked it. 👍👍
