    It’s actually incredible because I have a 2004 Ford F-150 and the front and rear fender is pretty solid to survive a fender a bender. However I was in an accident (not as bad as the one I was in in January when my old truck was totaled) where a guy cut me off at 55mph and I swerved to try to avoid him and I ended up going onto the center divider and hit and took out 2 street signs. The fender ended up getting crushed, so while it’s sturdy to survive a fender bender it’s still able to crumple when something hits it at a high speed. Thankfully the fender didn’t get crushed enough to hit the radiator, I was able to still drive it home.

    If you go off-road you need off-road bumpers etc. I backed into a pole with my plow truck wasn't going no more than 3mph and it dented the bumper and pushed in the fender. Now with my off-road truck. I can smack a boulder and all it will do is scratch the paint. Amazing what just a different bumper will do

    There is only rules about how SUVs to be safe in a crash test

    • @00crashtest
      @00crashtest  3 года назад +3

      Except SUVs aren't really that safe due to their body-on-frame design and high center of gravity. For real safety, buy a unibody minivan like the 1998-2003 Toyota Sienna, which was the best perforner ever, or the 2004-2010 Toyota Sienna and 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey, both of which have death rates of zero for most years.

    Modern SUV bumper covers are plastic, which reduces weight.

  • @scottthewaterwarrior
    @scottthewaterwarrior 9 лет назад +5

    This is just sad, although most modern cars have similar problems. Modern cars all have tiny integrated bumpers for style, personally I think the old bumpers that stuck out more looked better, and the certainly performed better. Some one rear ended my Grandpa's 1985 Volvo Wagon at about 10-15 MPH, it lurched us forward, but that big rubber bumper just bounced off the other car. Cars should be designed to withstand 10 MPH impacts with no damage and above that worry about crumple zones. The sad thing is that weak bumpers isn't even about crumple zone, just poor vehicle design.
