  • Okay. So, I got a new set of Aquila strings for my Oscar Schmidt OU-26T 6-string tenor ukulele. I wanted to make a video in case other folks might have problems tuning the strings to the correct notes. Also, I play this ukulele and also my Lanikai CK-TEQ tenor ukulele to contrast how unique the 6-string ukulele sound is.

    @JJkathayy Yup. The extra two strings are just octaves of the C and the A strings.

    Nice vid, I recently picked up same OU-26T and I must concur, it takes more pressure to hold down those strings, though the sound is well worth it.

    There's something that sounds South American about this instrument to me. I think it reminds me of the Charango from the Andes region.

    I just bought a 6 string after watching Casey McGill. I also really want a Tiple (10 string) but they’re really expensive. 8 string Uke is nice and can get similar effect but not the same sound as a Tiple.

    building a 6 string. still haven't decided on which strings I'm doubling for octaves. I already have a low and a high G tenor pair. considering this style. I actually want an 8 also. but 6 for now. thank you for helping me hear and decide

    @numanuma20 I'll see if I can't write up some tabs for that and post them to Ukulele Guy when I do.

      For an 8 String uke, the bottom 2 pairs are in octaves, the 2nd pair is unison, and also the 1st pair can be in octaves cause it'll sound cooler.

    Hey there! After watching this video I decided to get a Lanikai 6 string tenor. I snapped the high C string and have called stores all over the US trying to figure out what gauge string to replace it with. Any idea? I have it in standard tenor tuning (G CC E AA). I have an extra set of strings for a 4 string uke. Can I use one of them without snapping another string?

    hey there Im new and I just bought a Ibanez 6 string Ukulele its an EWP14-OPN they actually call it a Piccolo on their website ?......They it has 4 gold thicker note strings on top and then 2 silver thin higher note strings on bottom and its tuned (from top to bottom A2,D3,G3,C4,E4,A4) I cant get the first one to go to A3 like D & G did...Not sure if that is a concern. I just want to make sure I have it tuned properly so I always know wha to tune it to. Plus Im seriously new at this, I have some music ability mostly singing and I know some reading of notes (mostly piano)....But I do not know any chords especially for a Ukulele....can any one help or send me some links to tuning the Ibanez Ukulele and how to play chords. I really love this instrument. I love music. I really want to learn. Thank you so much in advanced ( :

      The EWP14-OPN are 6 equidistant strings, so you will be using guitar shape chords, but note name wise, like starting on the 5th fret of a guitar. This is what Ibanez is calling a Piccolo guitar, so while you can use ukulele chord information, it will only correspond to the highest in pitch or thinnest 4 strings.

    Darn, I was hoping this was a 6 string alternative for us dummies that can only play guitar and would tune it as such...like the 6 string banjos. lol

    If you used the actual weight strings could you tune it to EADGBE and have it be a travel guitar?

    • @kleverklogs
      @kleverklogs 8 лет назад +2

      +Jason Hernandez It wouldn't really work, as the second and third string and the fifth and sixth string are right next to each other. It's mean to be played as if the third and fourth are one string and the sixth and fifth are one string too.

    • @c330user
      @c330user 6 лет назад

      There are other instruments called Guitalele that are basically guitars, just tuned a fourth higher. Another description of a guitalele would be a tenor ukulele with two additional bass strings. Maybe, if you use really heavy strings, a guitalele can be tuned EADgbe. Or you just have a travel guitar that sounds a fourth higher than a regular guitar.
