I can't speak for other manufacturers, but Access roll ups vinyl is durable. I know of two that have lasted over 17 yrs, in all weather conditions, mostly heat, and literally they still look 95% new color and quality. We use the Access Lite Rider

I purchased my first access cover in 2019 based on your first review on your old truck. I went with the Lorado cover for its low profile appearance and was very pleased. Just got a new truck and the Access Lorado was my first purchase and installed accessory. Best cover and quality I’ve seen for a roll up cover.

Love my Access cover. My dad had one he bought in 2001 and it was on the pickup when he sold it in 2015 still working and looking great.
I had one that came on a Ranger that I owned for four years and it worked and looked great as well which is what sold me to purchase one for my 2019 F-150.
Four years in and it is still in great condition.
My farther in law and brother in law bought Amazon specials for half the price and you can tell. They fit terribly, look all wrinkled and have already had some issues with reliability.
You get what you pay for and Access covers are definitely worth it!

Yeah, dad's got one of those retractable covers on his F150 company truck, 5.5ft bed, and he's definitely not a fan- other than the fact that it locks. I've heard people say "Oh it doesn't take up that much space", which yeah, sure. Maybe if you don't really use your bed. But for people who regularly have a lot of stuff in their bed, it takes up a lot of space.

I have had very very lil water get in my beds with the full bed version. Anyone that ask about water leakage, I suggest if your hauling something say for vacation etc... lay the beach chairs down first, floats, anything that doesn't matter if it get gets wet. Then lay luggage, or whater u want to stay 110% dry on top of them. Watter will never get above the ridges in the bed.

I have the Bak X4S it’s been warranted 2 times with complete replacement in 3.5 years. They have great customer service, but for near $1200 I sure wish they had a more durable product. Vinyl delaminates from the aluminum, the slats get messed up, the side weather stripping comes loose, I sure love the look of it, but can’t recommend it. I’ll go back to an Access type tonneau once I’m out of warranty on this one.

I'm guessing you'd rule it out due to the height of the toolbox, but have you looked at the Truck Covers USA Work Tonneau Cover? My only issue with the solution you are using is the cover material. Granted none of them are 100% secure, but the more ridged retractables just seem a better insurance policy to me.
