RIP Phil Hartman (September 24, 1948 - May 28, 1998), aged 49
You will be remembered as a legend.
His work on Saturday Night Live has so much gold throughout.
Darn, never realized Ted was Troy McClure/Lionel Hutz. (The voice was familiar, though.) RIP indeed.
Even though he was in a blink and you'll miss it moment in the Santa factory as one of the elfs, RIP Verne Troyer aka mini me from Austin Powers 🙏
You may remember him from such movies as 'Lead Paint, Delicious but Deadly' and 'Alice's Adventures through the windshield glass'.
Just his voice is like a cup of warm cocoa.
Fun Fact: The little Santa Arnold punches is actually Verne Troyer who played Mini Me in Austin Powers
And Rita Wilson (the mom/wife) is Tom Hanks real life wife.
And the Big Santa is Paul Wight aka Big Show!
Rest in peace Verne Troyer such a great actor. He was raised Amish and his parents never treated him differently. Such a friendly and kindhearted guy. He will be deeply missed by all of his fans.
@@vincecommando7575
Did you know Verne played the stunt double for the baby in "baby's day out"
@@Paul-sl9zm I did know that he doubled for the baby in the film. He also did the very first horror movie I saw as kid, Pinocchio's Revenge (1996).
A lot of kids these days think that 90s culture is just Disney movies and Nickelodeon. But there were so many weird, obscure movies that we watched constantly on VHS. Jingle All the Way, First Kid (also with Sinbad), Homeward Bound, Fly Away Home. Such a great time for children's media.
Love this film. Don't care what anyone says. It's a Christmas classic to me. Also, of all the other Arnold films this one will be shown every year during Christmas without fail so it could potentially be the movie he is most known for as time goes forward. The actor who played the son also played young Anakin Skywalker. Rita Wilson (Howard's wife) is the real wife of Tom Hanks.
Favorite line: "who told you you could eat my cookies? Put that cookie down! Now!"
I don't recall seeing this movie more than a couple times during the holidays in all the years since it's been out. I don't even remember seeing it in Walmart in the Christmas movie section. Bur I suppose when you dislike the movie you aren't looking for it.
Same it was the second movie I saw with Arnold Schwarzenegger, first was T2, so it mostly because of him but over the years it became a favorite to watch every year
1
Yes! This is one of the movies I always watch in my holiday rotation. Not December without it.
In late 1996, the hottest toy across the land was the Tickle Me Elmo doll. The toy retailed for $30, on the secondary market, sellers were asking for more than $1000 depending on the desperation of the parent.
I had no idea this thing existed until about two weeks before Christmas that year ... thought I'd grab one for my niece. Turns out there were none to be found by the time I started looking, lol.
That's why I love seeing these reactions - you can also get a nice insight into the pop culture and trends of the time. Maybe this is just me, but I always found it interesting.
I know! I worked at Toys R Us at the time, it was hell! 😅😅😅
There was a few toys in the 90s that were like this. And because of the non existent internet shopping, it was very common for black market sales and a lotttttt of dangerous stuff going on.
I remember that, and in the 80's when people were fighting over Cabbage Patch dolls one year.
Ted's line after Howard got caught stealing the toy from under the tree, "you can't bench press your way out of this one" is comedic gold to me.
I loved his sarcastic brand of comedy.
Such an underrated movie. I always enjoyed this movie. Some people took it to seriously as if it were made for adults. Though it does have some adults jokes. Also some didn't like Arnold's performance, I mean.... that's what makes it so great! Arnolds gonna Arnold.
It is very satirical about holiday consumerism.
**FACEPALM**
"made for kids" does not automatically mean it has to be shit. This is shit.
oldest excuse in the book people think its shit oh they just took it seriously, but unfortunately this movie is shit im sorry but it is you just like it because Arnold. You said it yourself.
You need to work on your vocabulary.
@@chand911 you need to learn how to reply to a particular comment! Who are you talking about??
Also... "HI, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such Christmas specials as 'Christmas: The Most Deadly Game', 'HELP! I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Drug Years'. "
Read that in Hartman's voice and it was even funnier.
Samantha's reaction the mini santa getting punched and sent flying across the room has got to be the best. Plus your reactions to that bomb scene lol
The mini-Santa, that was Verne Troyer (aka Mini-Me from the Austin Powers films)...
@@MLJ7956 Really? I barely recognized him with the facial hair
Officer Hummell played by my childhood Tv hero Robert Conrad who starred in “The Wild Wild West “ he was so cool sadly passed away last year but had a good run , thanks again y’all!
I also remember him on The Battle of the Network Stars.
The police officer was played by Robert Conrad. James West in the Wild Wild West TV series. He also played Pappy Boyington in the Black Sheep Squadron TV series.
But my favourite series was A Man Called Sloane. Too bad it was cancelled.
I maintain that Wild Wild West was the first example of Steampunk.
Robert Conrad, one of my childhood heroes.
Yeah, he was awesome especially on Wild Wild West. Did almost all of his own stunts, one time resulting in giving him a serious concussion and a massive gash on his head.
This movie is usually laughed at, firstly and mostly because action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger did such a silly film. But all the same, I love this movie. So hysterically quotable.
It's laughably bad. 😁
This movie was my childhood go-to movie for the holiday season. I'd give jingle all the way a 10/10.
@@krizan1 no
You can love it or hate it, but this movie combined adult humor and absurdity with relatable situations and heart warming moments. Arnold, Sinbad and Phil Hartman all gave excellent performances here.
This movie is worth it just for Phil Hartman as Ted RIP. Such a fantastic comedian and voice actor, taken way too soon.
This was my introduction to him as kid before news radio and jre
Not sure if you're aware but there's an end credit scene. About 80% people are unaware of this
Mad at how his kid doesn't notice Turbo Man has an Austrian accent. It's a fun movie, so dumb it's fun.
So happy to see this hilarious, cynical but still lovable movie finally getting the recognition it deserves.
I love this movie honestly. A silly Christmas movie with Arnie, what more do you need!?
It is the only thing you need!
This is one of those movies I like more as an adult than I did as a kid. There are so many jokes and lines that went over my head when I was younger.
Me too.
Most important thing is to stay healthy, so having your tea off to the side isn't a distraction...you guys deserve your munchies during the movie as well!
I remember Arnold doing his promo tour on talk shows. His insane JINGLE ALL DA WAY! exclamations we’re hysterical.
Conan O'Brien did a bit where he interviewed "Arnold" on a TV screen. It was just a still shot of Arnold with one of his writer's mouth substituted. The guy did an hilarious impression and used that line repeatedly.
@@richardb6260 the guy who did that was Robert Smigel of SNL shorts, and triumph the insult dog fame. A young Louis CK was also a voice actor for early Conan.
@@billhicks6449 I figured it was Smigel. His Arnold impersonation strayed pretty close to Triumph occasionally.
For more classic Phil Hartman bits, check out 1993's _So I Married An Axe Murderer_ with Mike Myers ( _Austin Powers_ ). One of the best comedies of the '90s.
Funny, Phil Hartman and mike Myers are both Canadian actors and comedians.
Dammit once again I had to say HI to Samantha...the softest hi ever....
There's a end credit that's shows that Arnold totally forgot to get a Christmas gift for his wife. 😄 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎅🏼
Joe Pesci was originally chosen to play Myron, since he worked with Chris Columbus in "Home Alone". But Sinbad was chosen instead because of his similar height next to Arnold. Having a short guy next to the 6 foot Arnold Schwarzenegger would've been too similar to "Twins" (1988), another Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Sinbad was given the offer to audition while he was with First Lady Hilary Clinton and Sheryl Crow on a USO tour in Bosnia-Herzegovina (For spreading charity and entertainment during a brutal genocide and civil war going on in the Yugoslavian country). He did the audition and the filmmakers loved it!
* Funny thing was that Sinbad was on the verge of quiting his acting career and he thought that he "messed up" his audition, but luckily, the audience loved him! And at first, the filmmakers were uncomfortable with Sinbad playing Myron since his comedic performance would've been affected by playing a villian, but Sinbad was convinced that his comedic-villain character would generate sympathy than hate from the audience. And indeed, Sinbad did put on a show!
I remember in the 80’s, my dad had to get through mobs of people for Cabbage Patch dolls. People were fighting over those.
I forgot Big Show was in this movie! Man everyone looked so young back then. Not the greatest Arnold movie, but still a fun watch when the occasion calls for it.
Classic holiday movie, I watch it with my kids all the time 👍 great choice
That's awesome!
I love this film.
R.I.P Phil Hartman
Phil Hartman...RIP to a comedic genius
Put that cookie Down now!! Love that part lol 😂
I worked in a video store when this came out. I was given a promotional copy and watched and looooved it. Then it was years before I found another copy. As a person that doesn't really get 'Elf'. this is my holiday movie of choice along with Christmas Vacation.
I swear to God, the moment Arnold finally gets his hands on that damn Turbo-Man doll is one of the most magical moments in movie history, lol 😆😆
Very underrated movie. I saw it in cinema in 1996. Still my guilty pleasure. And watch out, there is after credits scene. :-)
It plays literally every Christmas, you don't know what the word underrated means.
@@chand911 I know very well, thanks. I am talking about ratings, not about how many times it plays. (UnderRATED....do you see what it means now?)...imdb 5,7, RottenTomatoes 19% (audience 38%)....it is not high rating.
That guitar riff when he appears always got me so hyped as a kid 👏🏻
I remember one time when i was making my dinner plate and "Jingle All The Way" was playing on the living room TV. We got to the scene where Sinbad and Arnie are at the radio station and Sinbad, with the small bomb package in his hand, starts ranting off. His rant and energetic performance was so hilarious that I was actually trying to hold in my laughter and not embarrass myself in front of my family. Then it got to the part at 15:29 where the DJ snickers and when Sinbad notices him, he points and says, "Are you laughing at me?" That made it even harder since I was trying not to laugh, it was like he was actually talking to me. I loved Sinbad! He was perfect! 😂😅😂😅😂😅😂

People originally made fun of this movie, but now I think it's a Christmas favorite. I love it!
I think Schwarzenegger is great at comedy, and you can tell he had a lot of fun making this one.
I think the toy craze madness started with the Cabbage Patch Dolls at least as far as parents fighting over them it was on the news a lot back then
Thunderstruck54: I just knew I'd heard that. Someone mentioned Tickle Me Elmo, but I didn't recall the timeline for each, which was the 80s (or early 90s) and the mid-90s. Thank you for sharing the info
@@LA_HA you betcha I remember it being on the news etc thanks
@@thunderstruck5484 Haha. I recall seeing people selling them on the street corners like carnival barkers. haha
You guys should watch “the first kid.” Another movie with sinbad where he plays a secret service agent assigned to protect the presidents mischievous son
I love this movie and watch it every year.
It really makes me miss Phil Hartman.
R.I.P
24:49 Hey, I recognize that clock tower! That's Minneapolis, my old home-- well, the city closest to my old home town!
We've been waiting a long time for you to react to this, but it was worth the wait! The reindeer scenes are some of my favorite when I first saw this movie back in the 90s especially when Arnie says: "You picked the wrong day!". Hope you both have a good Christmas.
There's a deleted scene where Arnold tries to buy a Turbo Man off Yeardley Smith - voice of Lisa Simpson. Very odd mashup: The Terminator buying a doll off Lisa Simpson for his son Darth Vader.
I own the family fun edition which has the extra scenes in, Including the extended fight between Arnold and big show
To me this is a classic! My sister and I favorite Christmas movie growing up! Love the reaction!! Feel better Samantha!
I only watched this because of Phil Hartman. That guy was a damn genius. Every role he was in he shown over everyone else.
The Turbo Man intro takes me back to my love of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and V.R. Troopers. Such badass shows and of course I have to give a shout out to all of the gorgeous women on these series. Some of my most cherished memories.
A few months ago they re-released the Turbo Man doll in stores. As far as I know Turbo Man is the only actual toy released from this movie even though the movie does have examples of Booster and Dementor dolls in scenes.
This movie doesn’t get enough love IMO. This is one of my favorite comedy Christmas movies! And I can’t get enough of Arnold saying “PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN!” in his classic Arnold voice. 😂😂😂
What Chris Harnel did to Arnold, is what EVERY retail worker would LOVE to do to every customer that wants something, when we are sold out of it.
This was one of the movies before Jake Lloyd (the son) played Anakin Skywalker and became hated. Which is sad of course. Being hated for your role. Sure he wasn't the bets actor in thee world, but he was just a kid.
His acting was terrible and annoying. He was just as bad in this movie, but it is more acceptable in comedy. He doesn't deserve to be attacked as a person though. Both are true.
I have this on VHS somewhere. Good cheesy family friendly Christmas flick. Merry Christmas! Have you watched his film Eraser yet? It's good. RIP Phil Hartman. Arnold's son in this is young Anakin Skywalker and his mom is played by Tom Hank's wife Rita Wilson. Good seeing Sinbad in here too. This is the second film that Arnold and James Belushi have been in (Red Heat, 1988). Martin Mull from Clue is the Radio DJ.
The guy who played the cop was a pretty big star himself. Robert Conrad was the star of the original "Wild Wild West" TV show that they remade as the Will Smith movie. I'm guessing you recognize Jake Lloyd who was young Anakin Skywalker in THE PHANTOM MENACE.
This is one of my favorite christmas movies to watch every year. I live in minnesota where this was filmed so its extra special for me. Yes it gets cheesy but that's part of the fun.
I thought that one-liner for the description was going to be "Put that cookie down! Now!"
I remember back in the 90s and early 00s it was literally that crazy in stores around Christmas. It still is at times but not as bad. I guess Amazon fixed that lol
Ahhh yes, a Christmas classic. Great reaction. 👍
'You're my number one customer..' I can so relate to that. After doing call center work for years, I've done this.
Yay I was waiting for this thank you tbr Schmitt and Samantha for this reaction I am so sorry Samantha that you are feeling under the weather I will pray for your speedy recovery Merry Christmas you guys ❤️✌️😚😢😭🙏
Merry Christmas and hope the video was worth the wait!
@@TBRSchmitt it was ✌️❤️😚🥰
Nice reaction. This is a special family movie for us. We discovered it by accident while traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving. We spent the night in a hotel at the midpoint of our trip and this movie came on my wife and kids really enjoyed it. The next year we made the same trip and stayed in the same hotel and the movie happened to be on again. So, it's become a tradition for use to kick off the Christmas season with this movie. Now, my kids are grown and they don't get excited about it as they used to but it's special for my wife and I as it takes us back to our trip to visit her family for Thanksgiving. It was probably the trip home when the move was on since it would have been after Thanksgiving. It also reminds us of having kids and trying to find the hottest toy each year. Now, we can order online but back then we had to go to actual stores.
Another funny mid 90s comedy with Sinbad and Phil Hartman is Houseguest.
Love that movie.
There are a handful of recognizable faces in this, most notably Jim Belushi, young Anakin Skywalker, Sinbad and an SNL alum; Eraser and T2: Battle Across Time were released that same year
Yes!!!!! I've been requesting this movie everywhere I'm glad someone is giving it a chance. I think it has some great funny moments. My favorite is Arnold yelling "put that cookie down now!"
When I was a kid, the big toys were always the latest Star Wars toys. I would always get a lot of Star Wars stuff from relatives, but it was always the secondary, rarely the main toys. But I loved them all, even if I did have more Storm Troopers than anything else. :D
I had a friend as a kid who found this the most funny film ever. Whenever we had sleepovers at my house we'd watch this film downstairs. And parents would always come down and tell us to be more quiet as he'd laugh so much.
As someone who's not a christmas fan and usually don't like christmas movies, I really like this one and it's the one movie I enjoy watching every year around christmas. Even as somebody who doesn't like christmas.
The Giant Santa is indeed Big Show Paul Wight, though at that time he was still wrestling in WCW and was simply known as the Giant
I said a few days ago you'd both enjoy it, I know by now you enjoy a bit of silly fun and approach in the right way to appreciate that type of movie. Hell my 2 favourite comedy films are 'Hot Rod' and 'National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1' (a spoof of Lethal Weapon 1 - 3). It doesn't have to be clever, just make me laugh.
This was my favorite Xmas movie growing up! My parents got me a Turbo Man Action Figure as a nostalgia/funny gift this year!
23:46 Is my favorite part of the entire movie. That poor box. I just die laughing every time. lol
I forgot Phil Hartman was in this movie. It hurts my heart. This may not be his finest role, but he was so funny. I miss him.
Sadly it was the last film he did that was released when he was still alive.
Hilarious film. (Was always hard for me to relate to though since my parents never cared for getting us what *we* wanted. Way they saw it, we shoulda been groveling in gratitude for having room and board and getting an itchy sweater.)
16:48 - "What happens if one of these packages was Turbo Man?"
I have to admit, my curiosity would have taken over.
There was a post credits scene that was pretty good that you missed.
This movie reenforces the reason I hide in my home on Black Friday! I was around for the whole cabbage patch doll thing in the 80’s. No present you can wrap and put under a tree is worth this much trouble! Christmas is about the baby Jesus and spending time with family and friends.
Ladies and Gentlemen, thee transcendental comedic voice of an era: Sinbad.
R.I.P. Phil Hartman. Jamie, the son, is also Young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars episode 1.
I don't understand why this movie have so many negative reviews, when I was a kid, we laugh a lot watching this movie..
This movie ultimately has a positive message, with a child raised as a consumer learning the meaning of Christmas as being giving and family rather than empty objects
23:44 "He does know karate." 😁 He's also strong with The Force. 😆
Wow, I mustn't have seen this before: that's Rita Wilson (Mrs. Tom Hanks) as Arnold's wife and the kid is Jake Lloyd/young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode I.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater with my dad. It’s a cheesy heart warming film
This is a Christmas classic, watch it every year.
Sinbad was in Shazaam.
We all know it.
Sinbad was in Meteor Man.
I knew it.

Still have the VHS copy myself. Classic 90's cheese but still a good movie. Merry Christmas. :)
It's a tradition in my family I watched this movie every Christmas which I'm watching right now
Never watched this movie, but saw you did a reaction so I had to watch the movie first. Surprised there was a post credits scene. Hope you saw it.
Maybe you get a lot of requests for this, but I think a reaction to "Love Actually" would be really fun. It's probably my personal favorite.
I really like this film from my childhood. I thought it was a nice change from the big blockbuster films Arnold did in the past. Sometime last month I was at Walmart and actually saw a Turbo Man for sale. It was such a nostalgic trip to see that toy. Unfortunately I didn't buy it but it was fun to see. It is great to see you two watching this film. Have a Happy Holidays!
Yes it was Big show as the giant Santa. Though this was when he was in WCW and known as the Giant.
"he's definitely not finding that toy" Jajaja!
i always seem to enjoy Arnold's comedy roles more. my favorite probably being Kindergarten Cop, but Twins is up there. Nobody seems to like Junior, but I thought it was cute. It was the first movie ever about a man being pregnant (the second was Juno)
as for action, Commando is by far and away Arnold at his most Schwarzenegger. Aesthetically, Raw Deal is my perfect movie. haven't seen his entire filmography, but best sci-fi was Total Recall
I think this movie is underrated, my favourite Christmas film
19:13 fun fact: this line was improvised by Phil and you can see Arnie had to stop himself from laughing.
Thanks so much guys for chosing this movie to react on!! This is one of my favorite Christmas movie with Home alone(1,2) This was my 90's!! And what freaking great reaction this was!! I enjoyed to watch your reaction on this great movie!! You guys are amazing as always!! Hugs and Merry Christmas to both of you amazing people!! Your Croatian fan!! It's pretty funny, that Arnold says "I am your father" to the kid that plays Anakin Skywalker
Absolutely love this movie and loved your reaction. I always get happy emotional at the end.
You guys were cracking up. I love it ❤ I have never seen this movie before. Think I'll watch it with my kids this Christmas. I had a Furby when I was little that I ended up never even playing with 😕
