      @@forry100 Jim, either you are the owner of this hitch company or have a lot of your money at stake or invested here. You sure are very adamant about promoting and desperately defending this product. IMO, for $3K, it should have been designed better in a sense as to not being so low on the ground and also not being so intricate or cumbersome to operate. In your other posts on this episode, you are hinting that Robert is going to also do some modifications to his trailer's suspension to compensate for the low clearance to mitigate this hitch's short cummings; and that means more money and time is being invested in addition to the $3K hitch that your people gave to him for free through this sponsorship.

      @@raypabs5374 neither, not an owner and no money invested. I just did a lot of research for someone else and highly recommended it for Robert. It is about Safety, yet so many scream overkill or even too much weight for his truck and trailer. Per weight 200# extra is not going to cause any problems, especially for his pickup. I stand up for those I believe in and can only hope I have friends and clients that would do the same for me.... fyi, I am in trucking limited and full time (seasonal) environmental business, so nothing for me to gain other than defending my friends decision and hopefully help others out to the safest way to tow a TT. I use an air ride hitch on my semi to pull my 5er, so use to people screaming overkill and dangerous when they have no clue. It is all about Safety.

  • @raypabs5374
    @raypabs5374 5 лет назад +5

    That looks horrible! Even though your truck is high, the hitch is too low. You will occasionally hit gas entrance/exit ramps and will be problematic on bad roads. It may eliminate your swaying problems but now your gonna have to worry about bottoming out all the time. For $3k, it should have been designed a lot better. This time around I don't think that I can believe your advise that this is a good product. But if they are sponsoring you well, then what the heck of course.

    • @forry100

      Bottoming out is not an issue for tens of thousands of customers. As a side note, if it was, no one ever rolled a trailer and tow vehicle as a result of bottoming out. Other hitches can't make that claim.

    Excellent review, Robert! Thank you for your dedicated service to the RV community. Your video will help many people to be safe and stable on the road when towing. Hopefully, many will do more research to understand this isn't just like their "conventional" hitches which allow the trailer to pivot on the ball and apply leverage to the tow vehicle. It's just not the same thing. The only real comparison would be to compare it to a 5th wheel design where the pivot point is physically over the rear axle. Comparing it to any of the friction based conventional hitches and their value/price is like comparing tents to travel trailers for camping shelter. A tent is much less expensive than a trailer. Not the same category or the same benefits.

    At $3000 it's not for everybody. I'm looking at getting one right now. I have a 35' trailer and a pickup combo that I paid $75,000 for. When you have that kind of investment to protect you want the best possible control you can get, not only for your safety, but for the safety of everyone around you. I love my RV, but it is going to be pretty useless once I flip it over. I've driven too many miles and have seen too many trailers on the side of the road damaged because the driver lost control. The most critical point in towing is the hitch. It's not the place to go cheap.

    This hitch is overkill for this little trailer. The best thing anyone can do when hauling an RV is SLOW DOWN! I was stunned to see massive 5th wheels and travel trailers blow by me on a recent trip across a few states. I'm talking 80 MPH. These things are all over the road. Driving them at a high rate of speed (speeding is the #2 cause of highway accidents) coupled with the boneheaded #1 cause... distracted driving, spells disaster when towing... no matter how much you may spend on a hitch set up. Be smart, pay attention, maintain your stuff and slow down.

      He never indicated in any videos he had any sway issues. Shouldn't with that double axle small trailer. friction bar would be adequate. But he is marketing the product and I am sure he would like it. Surely cant hurt, but is it really needed. NOT if properly loaded.This thing is only excessive baggage .

    • @forry100
      @forry100 5 лет назад

      @@TheJcrandazzo He had some issues, just did not comment much on it, accepted it as how trailers tow like so many do. I do not think it is overkill, especially for the miles he travels. But then I am for overkill, I tow my 5er with a semi truck and have a TrailerSaver air ride hitch. Could my pickup pull my trailer? Yes, but it could not come close to handling it and stopping it as well. Plus the State cops LOVE us that use HDT RV for our 5ers, even joining us. We really like Robert and feel better that he has the best TT hitch their is. It will really pay for it's self when he has to avoid something on the road, especially a last minute avoidance.

    I tow a 22.3' travel trailer with max 5000-5500 lbs loaded with a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 3/4 ton truck, no weight-distribution/anti-sway bars, and carry a 100 lbs generator, 2 five-gallon fuel and water tanks full, a small plastic folding table, a bicycle, some firewood and some odds and ends going no more than 65 mph with occasional 70 mph. No wind, no side-wind, no cross-wind, no semi, NOTHING, not even steep grade is going to sway this trailer.

    So glad to see this, Robert! I also have a ProPride 3p and will not tow with anything else. We towed our 28 foot Heartland Mallard with our 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI on a 1,000 mile trip to the beach last year. We dealt with winds that were forcing 3/4 ton & 1 ton trucks and trailers to slow down and we passed them like they were out of gas. No hitch on the market performs like the ProPride. As for comments about the cost, it’s a lot cheaper than buying a larger truck that still doesn’t eliminate sway. You can’t put a cost on your safety and that of your family and property.

    I have an anti-sway hitch, it’s called a vintage 31’ Airstream; 8,000lbs towed behind a Duramax Allison 2500HD rated for 12,000 lbs. Sway isn’t much of an issue if you have the proper tow vehicle matched to the correctly sized trailer. So my advise, before you spend $3 grand on a hitch, do the basics by properly setting up your standard hitch and learn to load properly, if that doesn’t work look into a weight distribution hitch. Folks have been safely towing maxed-out loaded trailers for decades. As a last resort, if your trailer is too heavy and your tow vehicle is too light, then pony up that $3,000.. ouch!

    preferred our Winnie Truck over the Trailer. Always trade offs. 😕

      @TravelingRobert  5 лет назад

      Is it worth the price? If you can afford it and you've experienced sway before to the point that it felt dangerous. I felt it crossing the Dames Point Bridge with high wind once, well yes it is worth it. I don't know how ProPride and Hensley compare price wise because Hensley does not disclose their prices online. I makes for a way more comfortable and care free drive even in challenging situations. Only cons: turning radius will increase a bit and it is very tricky hitching and unhitching at an angle.

    Nice review Robert! I have a very similar setup. 2017 Chevy Colorado and a 2019 Apex 215rbk. I picked up a ProPride 3P hitch after a very windy trip last spring. It comes with a 60 day return policy, so I figured I would give it a try and see for myself. After the 60 days there was no way I was sending it back. I put just over 3,000 miles on the setup last summer and it makes a world of difference and a much more comfortable experience. I've switched back to my original E2 hitch twice for dealer work and putting it into storage. There is a huge difference. ProPride makes a dealer/storage bar that allows you to move it around with a regular setup, I just haven't got that yet. I also agree, that Sean has been excellent to work with.

    • @TravelingRobert

      @@RVEastCoast Thousands of people do spend that kind of money every year. It is a personal choice and everyone's risk tolerance is a factor. Some people prefer to accept more risk than others. Towing is a multi-variant system. There are a lot of factors which play into the stability of a trailer. The foundation of the system stability is the location of the pivot point.

    • @RVEastCoast
      @RVEastCoast 5 лет назад

      @@SeanWoodruff Thank you for your respectful and certainly accurate response. I am assuming by the way you speak that you either work for this company or sell their products. Please allow me to clarify that I started my comment by saying that I like this product and that I have been looking at it for a long time. That does not mean my current system is not safe or that I am taking more risk because I am not willing to pay a sixth of the cost of my entire trailer on a hitch system. I think you are being unfair by cataloging me as person putting myself and my family at risk.

    • @SeanWoodruff
      @SeanWoodruff 5 лет назад

      @@RVEastCoast Yes, I own ProPride. And, I never cataloged you. A risk is a fact anytime you do anything. We all accept degrees of risk in life. It's a fact, not a judgment. It's a fact of physics that a travel trailer pivoting on a hitch ball applies leverage to the tow vehicle. The hitch ball sits a distance behind the rear axle and creates a lever arm. A 3P hitch does not pivot at the hitch ball. The leverage is greatly reduced if not eliminated. The greater the leverage, the higher the risk of sway is involved. Again, only facts. You can accept them or not but ignoring them doesn't change them. I happen to eat more red meat than I should. I know it can impact my health but I accept the risk. And, this isn't judging you or your family.

      @SeanWoodruff 5 лет назад

      Hensley is version one of this design. I ran the company for 10 years before starting ProPride. We've improved the design considerably by addressing the weak points in the Arrow. That said, if the ProPride didn't exist, I'd definitely tow with an Arrow.

    • @tampajohn3375

      I am not trying to criticize Pro pride in anyway. First and foremost you can't put a dollar on safety. We drove across Texas with a regular weight distribution hitches with two sway bars and I was all over the road. We were going to quit camping until I was told about the Hensley hitch. If I could encourage anyone to be there by a Hensley or Pro Pride I would. Safety is more important than anything and we have had no issues with Crosswinds for semis passing hope this help somebody
