    I love seeing you geek out, this band is truly incredible. One neat thing I'd like to mention is that all of their albums except for one are concept albums based in a sci-fi universe created by the lead singer, Claudio. The lyrics are done in such a way that the songs can stand on their own, but are also telling a story. There are graphic novels and comic books that go with it, it's really cool.

    • @GhostsOfKrysmasPast
      @GhostsOfKrysmasPast 3 года назад +3

      Quick PSA - you absolutely do not need to read the comics to get it - but if you DO, there's an entirely different tone to half the material, and a lot of the metaphors become even more powerful.

    Man, I still remember almost twenty years ago now the time when myself and some friends drove down from college one weekend to see one of our other friends who lived in Rockland County, New York. Second night there he asks if we want to go to a show downtown where some guys he knows are headlining. Needless to say, we went, and 'those guys' were a young coheed and cambria (who I had never heard of at the time) doing a local promotion for the upcoming release of their first studio album -- and it was insane. small, single floor venue, high school choir style risers for a stage, and Claudio's entire family (from grandmother down to four or five year olds) were right up front going crazy, singing along with him. About this time last year I suffered respiratory failure as a result of an auto-immune condition I have. I was unconscious for 2 days, and when I woke up, the first thing I wanted to do to get my mind off the tubes in my throat was listen to music. I threw in my earbuds and this was the first song that played. Something about the hopefulness of this song has stuck with me. Coheed and Cambria has always been my favorite band, but that experience really changed how I feel about their music. Thanks for giving these guys a listen. They're criminally underappreciated, especially their more recent work such as this.

    I got to see Coheed live once at the House of Blues in Cleveland, and they put on a great show! Claudio (the singer+guitarist) is such a cool guy and his vocal performance was just incredible. All of them were great, of course, but he really stood out to me.
    If I could recommend a band, one of my long-time favorites is Sylosis, a thrash/death metal band from Reading, England. They do excellent work, and in particular are notable for the incredible riff writing of Josh Middleton, who does the vocals and co-lead guitar, as well as the fact that, until their latest album, all their songs used guitars tuned to E Standard, which is highly unusual in modern metal. I struggle to recommend just a single song from them, so instead, I'll give you a song from each album and you can pick the one you think is the most interesting :)
    Album - Song - Year - Notes - link
    Cycle of Suffering - I Sever - 2020 - Only song I've listed tuned to D Standard instead of E, includes my favorite vocal performance in this list - ruclips.net/video/dZDd-MwuvcM/видео.html
    Dormant Heart - Servitude - 2015 - Manages to get some interesting perception of speed despite its tempo - the part of the song that feels slowest is at quarter=128 and the rest is at quarter=126 - ruclips.net/video/9_RT0G4wWKg/видео.html
    Monolith - A Dying Vine - 2012 - Probably the song I've listened to the most times on this list, main riff is blazing fast and the vocals that accompany it are very quick as well, which is all the more impressive when considering that they're done by the same person at the same time. Changes significantly over its duration, particularly in emotion. - ruclips.net/video/4Uol-vZNAt4/видео.html
    Edge of the Earth - Procession - 2011 - Strongest "groove" out of this list, and has my favorite intro and main riff in the list as well - ruclips.net/video/Iz6xlrLKd4M/видео.html
    Conclusion of an Age - Last Remaining Light - 2008 - From before Josh took over the vocal role; in my opinion the old vocalist wasn't as good as him, so I don't listen to this album much, but the solos in this song are amazing and I still find it a joy to listen to. - ruclips.net/video/hMARq1y0PvY/видео.html

    True story of personal tragedy here: in 2006, my wife and I went to see Pittsburgh for a concert. It was Avenged Sevenfold and some other band we didn't know of at the time. After we got thoroughly rocked by A7X, a band called Coheed and Cambria came out...and we left...because we had no idea who they were. I've been a Coheed fan for almost my entire adult life...I'll be 35 in January. From the onset, they've always had a strong bass presence, always driving with great turnarounds and usually, musical independence (i.e. not playing the same thing as everyone else). They've had Zack "Super Duper" Cooper in the band since 2012 and he's stepped up and has been amazing. Around that time, the original drummer, Josh Eppard, returned, and he is in this video. I could go on for awhile on Coheed, musically and the story of the project.
    This song in particular, gets me every time. I get goosebumps around that pre-chorus and then the chorus gets my eyes, "watering up"... The song is an amazing composition, great build up and the harmonies are sweet. The album, prior to the one that this song is on, was removed from their, overall Coheed & Cambria story and because of that, it had a feel that was very similar to this song. In fact, this song was written around that time and then, fleshed out to fit into the C&C narrative so it could be included on Vaxis - Act 1. All of their songs (except the Color Before the Sun, album) are a narrative of an ongoing story that I won't even begin to try and describe lol.

    What makes his vocals even cooler - his speaking voice... pretty much matches what you'd expect, based on his appearance. (I was more shocked the first time i heard him speak, than i was the first time i heard him sing) which i wouldn't have been shocked at all...if i hadn't heard him sing. Somehow, that all seems to fit right in with what C & C is, or does, or achieves... in my opinion.
    They are mold shattering, once everything is taken in for consideration (some of which, isn't even the music, but something like the scope of the conceptualization of a "saga" being expressed through several albums, instead of making a single "concept album". Plus that saga is not just concept... but actual comic books & novels written by Claudio & published by Evil Ink Comics.
    I could be wrong? But that sure was completely new to me.
