Sill gaskets serve the purpose of air sealing a home. Where air can leak in there will be humidity as well which, especially in warmer climates, will meet the cool condensing surface of the drywall, floor and/or base moulding. In any case, it’s not a good thing. On the inside, it serves no purpose. Each space will likely be air balance to an engineers specs. I know here in Portland Oregon, we have a lot of ‘passive’ homes that require extreme air tightness. We usually run a healthy bead of sealant underneath our mudsill in addition to the foam. Weird, I know, but when your blower door test comes in, you’ll be happy you had a back up to the fluid applied sheathing-foundation stuff. Anyways, great content and love the channel! Keep up the good work!

I've been watching your videos for a while and I've been curious about how you do your blocking. In Ontario we're not allowed to stagger our blocking by more than 1 1/2". I see you guys stagger it by close to a foot. Is there a reason for that? Does it help with resisting earthquakes or is it just a matter of different code requirements?
Nice work, picked up on some great pointers, how bout that fluorescent buckaroo strap that system looked comfortable looks like you might have switched to diamond back or maybe depends on what your feeling that day, anyway great video keep em coming, thanks
Is the blocking in your plans or is this just something you do? I’m currently framing a house in Northern Ca and there is zero blocking. 9’ walls, 2/6 exterior
nice, interesting to watch. So my question is, let's you have a long span of wall, maybe 16', but you want to try to raise the wall alone so you build it in two, 8' sections, what is an acceptable way of connecting those two segments together? would you just butt the two king studs on the ends of the segments and nail them together and add the top plate across the joint, or are there other preferred methods?
Hey Matt, thanks for the videos, I truly look forward to every next episode of this construction build. I have a question: Do the Interior partition walls get bolted to the slab or just nailed to the sidewall?
Hello everyone, I am from the Czech Republic in Europe (Jagr, Hašek, Pastrňak, Havel, :),). due to climatic conditions, our construction is different, yet wooden buildings do not cease to fascinate me. please allow one question .. how do you measure the length of individual walls? is each different height or are they the same and solve the height difference in the next layer? or is the base plate 100% straight? thanks and goodbye

Hey, great vid man! I'm wondering how you would connect two different wall heigths, let's say my external walls are 12ft but I want 8ft interior walls to make a loft or 1,5 story kind of thing, alowing a 3 or 4 feet wall in the second story underneith my gable roof. Thanks a lot!
You could probably shed some light on this more than the run around answers I get online, can you build 2x6 exterior walls at 24"OC? I know 16 is standard but I have heard that 24 is possible.
The exterior walls are load bearing, and framing the studs @ 16" o.c. gives more assurance that each roof framing member will stack with a stud. Also, those walls are exposed to potentially high winds, and the sheathing stands more chance of buckling under a high wind load. Where I am (east coast) 16" o.c. is a code requirement.
Matt : Have you got a rough estimate of your lumber cost for all this framing, or was that all included as part of the original quote for the complete job ? Excellent work, btw...👍
When you framed that little 2 stud wall and you said this will take me awhile...I thought to make it even more funny would have been to use the forklift to set it in place. Also I was wondering how many times you have shot yourself with the nailer. I see you keep your hand pretty close to edge of the board, I've had the nail come shooting out the side and hit my hand before.
I’ve shot myself a few times over the last 8 years.. only once from double firing and shooting myself. The others were just freak accidents.. I shot through a anchor bolt hole in the bottom of plate and it hit my hand, that felt great.
@@MattBangsWood I actually had a co worker nail his hand to the board. That was bad. I've been super lucky in fact that mine have been from the nail bending while going in and coming out the side of the board

I believe someone on the crew (I can't recall who, maybe Matt's pop?) marked the interior wall outlines on the foundation at some point earlier in the build.
There's a trapezoidal area that you're above at 22:06. I saw this earlier in the video, when you were building the walls around it. What the heck is this little area? Too small to be a panic room! And it doesn't look like usable space -- maybe on the plans it's just a void?
Disclaimer: I know nothing about framing...are the blocks in between the studs fire breaks or something? Makes fishing a wall with wire afterwards pretty difficult I would imagine. I used to run wiring in existing structures and I always drilled a hole in a top plate and used a magna-pull or glow rods to fish interior walls with ease.
No, keeps walls sturdy and straight. Gives us a much better product. Lower end tract homes don’t block a thing, but with the higher end projects, it helps us sleep at night. It might make it difficult for someone trying to pull wire for a TV plug 20 years from now.. but we can’t drop our quality now to save someone a few hours down the road.
