I want to learn the Octave Mandolin as I like the lower tone, what being a bass player and all that. Could I still follow a Mandolin lesson but play an Octave Mandolin?
You definitely can. I actually own the walnut octave mandolin in this video. The tuning and notes are all the same, so any tab or sheet music you are following is the same (you could also ready fiddle notation). The big issue is the stretch if you aren't used to it...I am also an upright bass player, but even for me it has taken some getting used to. Chords you are used to playing on a regular mandolin can be a challenge (albeit, a great one!) and your pinky will get much stronger very quickly! The tone and the bottom end support is well worth it. Since day one of picking this instrument up I have been floored! Andy's instruments are a cut above the rest.
beautiful!
That sounds great! gol dang xo
Terrific clarity, even tones and cut for tunes. Very impressive. How much is due to the shape and how much to genius? The Mahog edges it for me.
