I am 69 years old and have played guitar since I was 15. I have played with bluegrass musicians and others who use that traditional instrumentation. Very little surprises me, but until I heard "Jealous Moon" and watched the video, I have never heard of the octave mandolin. Now I'm thinking of selling one of my Taylors and getting one. This sound is piercing my heart. Just my luck, I bet they're not cheap, either.
She's the real thing. There are very few real songwriters around in the traditional sense of melody originality and invention. It requires work and genius. Sarah is my current favorite.
First heard this lovely song on public radio in Oregon, and bought the CD. Sarah's soul truly shines in her music...and watching her play Build Me Up From Bones literally brought tears to my eyes!
I saw Sarah open for Richard Thompson many years ago. She was barely 21, and she killed it. So brilliant as a singer, songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist.
I love the comment about where you strum, over the neck vs near the bridge... that's where a quality instrument really makes a difference and I only discovered that nuance when I got my first good quality mandolin... can barely hear the difference on my cheap beginner one.
octave mandolin! the difference is that a mandocello is tuned like a mandola (CGDA) but one octave lower, whereas an octave mandolin is tuned like a mandolin (GDAE) but one octave lower
Only a few years younger than today. So I'd guess around 23 or so. Young compared to Gillian Welch, but a seasoned veteran compared to, say, Billie Eilish.
Mickaël GAUVIN I think I heard someone at the beginning ask if she had the strings tuned in octaves. She said “the G and the D”. So I think the tuning is Gg Dd AA EE. But capoed at 3. So actually, A#a# Ff CC GG. (If that’s the right way to write it.)

That’s about the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard…

This woman plays every possible instrument better than any I've ever played any, and that's quite a few. Sarah is awesome.
She's amazing ❤
So nice to see someone really make these instruments sing!
Like Led Zeppelin, everything Sara plays seems to be something I want to hear. Just so "Right"!
She's brilliant.
I...freakin...LOVE...this song

I would listen to this song every morning on my way to work while gazing at the mountains of colorado. Such good memories. Such an amazing song

Thank you. Peace
Awesome
'love it
She has outstanding technique.
Fantastic! Great job What make and model is this instrument? Wonderful tone.
Is this an octave mandolin? I think it is not sure
Yes it is
Can you put mandolin strings on a mandocello?
How do you tune something with a capo on the fretboard? Doesn't that make tuning difficult? Hmmm.
Sarah so young here! soooo talented.

She's going to be 30..! This month, May 2021...And still, so young..! 🤩💜
Where do you have to have music inside and you sure keep making it
Does she use standard mandolin tuning?
GDAE ?

I feel like I can identify with her while she's tuning :) After that, I'm outta my league!
I've been in awe of her mando playing since she was in High School.. Her talent blows me away..
You might mention having a really beautiful guitar like makes music for you I’ve got a few of them
"A really beautiful guitar" ... upon close inspection it's a an eight string ... mandolin just like the caption says ... Da!
Music that’s the phone you got a let it rain
You don’t need to talk too much
