    Would you be able to show how to do the tremolo runs? Using more than 1 note? Like a scale or an arpeggio? I cant find anyone on RUclips who teaches that, but I hear all the pros like Thile, doing it in most of their solos.

    I have a question for you. When practicing tremolo on the g string where do you rest your pinky? And do you have something on the face of your mando where you rest it?

    • @SonyaFirstMandolin

      Just point it out a little bit (just enough to touch the pickguard). I have just standard pickguard (the white spot on it is a just vanished color after years of playing)

    • @SonyaFirstMandolin
      @SonyaFirstMandolin  9 месяцев назад +1

      Great question, yes , the little pinky finger stays (slides up and down) on the pick guard - that’s how you make tremolo consistent and it gives foundation for your hand

      Before I used handmade plectrums made of caprolone from Russia - those were my favorite. They were about 1,3-1,6cm long & 1-1,1mm. But I’ve lost them all 😅
      Now I use Martin .60mm guitar picks and they work just fine

    Very nice tips! Thank you for this video :) You wrote that other instruments could use this technique too? I wonder if a pair of violinists on their E strings could make this.... venetian sound :)

    • @herbertwells8757
      @herbertwells8757 4 года назад +1

      Tremolo is of course a standard violin technique but the effect is very different from the effect of mandolin tremolo. Aside from its distinctive sound, one basic purpose of mandolin tremolo is to sustain notes. Sustain isn’t a problem for the violin because the violin is usually bowed.

    Help! My A-style Flatiron mandolin doesn't have a pickguard. Now what?

    • @SonyaFirstMandolin
      @SonyaFirstMandolin  8 месяцев назад +1

      Best option is to install pickguard on your mandolin. If cannot, when trying tremolo stretch you pinky finger (so it touches the mandolin) and use it as a support to do tremolo (same way as on pickguard, your pinky finger needs to slide slightly up and down to create tremolo. The only difference without pickguard pinky finger is straight and “detached” from other fingers).
      Hope it helps
