Also kinda Idunn is a neat contrast to Roy's entire journey; Roy basically got drafted while he was in the middle of a high school year to lead a whole army, which def puts Roy some pressure. After many hardships of the loss of people like Hector and seeing many of the neighboring territories suffer due to Zephiel's deadset ideal while also understanding the reasons of former enemies to ally under Bern; Roy hardened and was chosen by Harmut's Binding Blade prob cause it knew that Roy would have to make a hard decision when the moment with Idunn came.
At the end, Roy not only was physically strong enough to wield the Binding Blade, but also mentally strong to spare Idunn and give her a second chance in life

@Tu-Li-Oh An interesting idea that to any future remakes Of binding blade.
I mean if you go for the true ending Roy pretty much stays behind to make certain to bring her out to safety As the temple collapses. As i've noticed when fire emblem heroes kind of expands On the human dragon war from Elibe. Roy's decision Was the pick the peaceful option the chance to fix the wrongs that were done on Idunn. Even Idunn shares no hatred to Zephiel, thankful to him for freeing her which gave Roy and Fa the chance to restore her. In a way the restored her is trying to pursue Zephiel lash wish but in a BETTER manner as Zeph Was not wrong When he called out the worst and humanity. As a larger amount the bosses even some of the sympathetic ones Pretty much proved his point About the madness of humanity. But as roy told him, he pretty much just gave up and lived under some imaginary belief that dragons were Far superior and better when they made the same mistakes humanity did Even if they were back in a corner! Didn't make what they did to idunn right. Even Yahn stated Humanity did nothing wrong winning over the Dragons. Him giving you a GOOD idea that the dragons who fought Humanity (those who stayed) were not to different and even held no grudge because "Survial of the fittest" (Arcadia did show long before the Ice Dragon Siblings that Dragons and Humans CAN get along. Both sides just chose not to consider this and fought a pointless war. Funny how the other heroes minus the Saint FINALLY understood Helmut's reasoning for sparing Idunn later then the road, especially Athos as shown in Blazing Sword)

I think what makes Idunn so special to me is the fact that while she’s the final boss, she isn’t the main villain, not by a long shot. The only other game that does that is FE7 but that’s just a random war dragon so lol. Zephiel was Roy’s main enemy in terms of opposing them both physically and ideologically, and with the true ending chapters with Roy learning about Idunn’s plight mirrors Hartmut in sparing her life, but instead of just sealing her, Roy gives her a second chance at life in Arcadia so she can fully become “Herself” again. I love this shit lol

I've really never understood the complaint that Idunn is an easy final boss. Firstly, because I never considered her the final boss, that's Zephiel. The last chapters are your reward/victory lap for getting all the Legendary weapons. Most if not all of the main story arcs are resolved by defeating Zephiel, meeting Jahn and Idunn is just tying up loose ends and giving you more lore and context for the world as a whole. Also, compared to BS final bosses like Shadow Dragon and New Mystery Medeus that more or less require serious cheese strats, or Tellius' final bosses that can only be fought with the main lord, I'll take an underwhelming boss any day of the week.

It's coming from the same people who hate Event bosses. The bosses who you're not supposed to lose/win against like Cloud vs Sephiroth at the end of FF 7 which was an interactive cutscene. Or Yu Yuvon at the end of FF10. Or both final forms of Ganondorf in BoTW (Dark Beast) and ToTK (Funny enough the usual outcry for that one is lesser. Good cause I'm tired of idiots whining about "Finish Line" final bosses) They feel ALL bosses should be a challenge and these Bosses should be a cutscene because it really comes down to THEIR complaints and about THEM! They just crowd together and play that "everybody agrees with them"
I mean even the FUCKING LORE stated when the Heroes got to Idunn, she didn't put up a fight and it was how Helmut realized what Idunn truly was! Hence him sealing her with the hope the future generation will choose to save her (Note saving her by having ROY beat her with the Binding Blade is optional. Meaning anyone who just goes to kill her is just a bloodthirsty asshole who went "too long didn't listen" to that facto. Yet complain and bitch! They complained for the sake of complaining and I have no time to deal with those type of People.

Because this is the finale of the game, yes Idoun is a tragic character, but she should not be this easy, look at the way her sprite is introduced at the beginning of a combat with her and the music playing, it's supposed to be epic based off of this, it's not keeping some sombre music playing in the background but this grand epic piece of Roy trying to seal Idoun's power for good, it should be this massive battle between a Dragon that's ABOVE every other Manakete you've fought so far and this ultimate Sword, more powerful then the weapons that have been distorting reality. Her attacking only at 1-range is also just stupid, it is consistent with the other manaketes but it's disappointing, it's honestly not an exageration to say that Idoun is the easiest boss in the entire game. A part of this is because it really isn't even a map that you are fighting on, it's literally just Idoun and two other Manaketes, there's no wave to push through or anything to distract you from hitting Idoun twice, granted the other GBA final bosses share this problem but it's especially egregious here considering how much Idoun was hyped up throughout the entire game

@@samu1414 Fire Emblem's gameplay doesn't work with "hard" fights, especially in the endgame, where there's way too many variables to consider, and the bosses are essentially little more than stat checks
The Black Knight in Path of Radiance is a "hard fight" and everyone agrees he fucking sucks because it's an RNG fest with no actual strategy involved, because of his big stats and the random nature of the game's leveling system which can leave Ike screwed
If Idunn was harder it would be the exact same thing, setpiece bosses like that have to be easy
If you want a "good" hard boss fight in Fire Emblem, you're better off making it an entire map, like, say, Nemesis in 3H or Sombron in Engage, especially since both of them kinda force you to interact with the map itself to beat them

Elibe is my favourite FE setting because of all the batshit stuff that has happened in it in the lore
The war between Dragon and Human? Yeah, it got so brutal and so long that the speed of human reproduction became a factor
The legendary weapons? No big dragon tooth this time, these weapons are so powerful that they will fuck up the world if used too much/too recklessly
The dragons secret weapon? We essentialy killed a child and had her make us an army from nothing
And that's only the stuff in the background of FE6, there also the nature of dark magic, Nergal and the Morphs, the Black Fang, whatever the fuck is going on with Renault and his connections to many characters...
Also shoutouts to Fire Emblem Heroes for Ascended Idunn, honestly, the best of all the ascended next to Joshua.

If I ever got to work on a Fire Emblem 6 remake, the only OC I would add is a soldier (becomes a halberdier or a Holy Lancer) who has a strange appearance. Supports with characters would reveal that he is actually a Morph - a Morph who survived past the death of Nergal, but eventually developed their own identity and personality. It would also explain why he has such a low luck stat.
But the fact that he has a luck growth at all suggests that maybe he did develop a soul? It's ambiguous - perhaps he was a Perfect Morph and Nergal didn't know? or was he simply another throwaway who survived by dumb fucking luck? Either way, he can be considered a person.
He wouldn't have any romantic paired endings though - but if he has an "A" support with Sophia or Fae, his ending would change to mention that he has gone to Arcadia. Perhaps, like Idunn... he goes through a similar trial.
Bartre, Marcus, and Karel would instantly recognise him as a Morph, but are surprised because Nergal is long dead.

It's a somewhat well-known fact that Idunn can be (IIRC) one-rounded by a completely unlevelled Roy.
Given the fact that there is a removed Super-Darkstone in the game files, and that Roy is required to be the one to beat her if you want to get the best ending, I think that being able to do that is completely intentional on the part of the game designers.

I think FE6's wacky game design plus his canonical young age is why he comes off as so weak in gameplay. But in lore, even though he's not a gigachad Lord like Ike or Chrom, he's no pushover, and he's got the most bravery and determination out of any FE protagonist bar none.

Tangentially related to the video, I don't think Hartmut actually pitied Idunn. We know that the Sword of Seals changes based on the person wielding it. In addition, we know Al is at least canon to some extent considering his sword makes an appearance in Chapter 13. As the events of the novel must be canon to some extent, Hartmut must seal away Al, his own son. When talking to Melitha, Hartmut seems incredibly upset about having to seal away his family as well, but he still doesn't kill them outright. I might be overthinking it, but it seems like (to me at least) Hartmut doesn't want to kill. Rather he kills only because the dragons he fought were also fighting to kill, hence why he chooses to seal his wife, child, and Idunn.

Fun Fact: The game files have a Dragon Stone for Idunn that would have given her, like, a gajillion stats. And Roy Still dumpsters her it just takes two rounds instead of one. it probably got scrapped because it would make her fucking unkillable if you don't have Binding Blade or Fae (Idunn doesn't take Eff Damage from the S-rank weps).
They should have atleast let Idunn hit 2 range and not ORKO'd by a not-much-investment roy, she shouldn't be THAT pathetic. Though I wouldn't be suprised if they locked her to 1-range because they, for whatever reason, couldn't program it correctly alongside the fact that she has 3 attack animations
0:39 to be fair, the Fire Dragon being easy is less of an issue with the boss's difficulty and more just Luna being broken. and Fe8 as a whole is one of the easiest FE games

Funny to hear the comparison to Gwyn, that's also how I described my thoughts about this boss to someone. I always really appreciated Idunn's character, the position of 'non combatant, super tragic character forced to fight against her will' unexpectedly makes the final boss fight kinda sad. Killing her is easy because, even as it's presented in the story, killing her is the easy path. It's sparing her that's the "real challenge".
Side note, Ascended Idunn (or Happy Idunn as I always remember her) is one of my favorite additions to the gacha game. One of the few things Heroes has been good for is squeezing extra writing potential out of good characters like Idunn. ...Plus it's just nice to see our girl doing better.

Killing Zephiel is a first closure to the story, but isn't really a hard chapter.
All the chapters after it, the true ending, are easy, because it's basically a victory lap and a reward (for finding and keeping ALL legendary weapons) rather than a brutal final showdown.

  • @CyclonSilver
    @CyclonSilver 7 месяцев назад +2

'bit late to the party, but there are a couple reasons why I think this doesn't fly :
First, there's Jahn. Jahn is one of the strongest Fire Dragons there is, and she's significantly stronger than him. He also goes down even easier than her.
Second, for anyone who isn't Roy, or Fa (a divine dragon), or something specific like a capped Berserker critting with Armads... Iduun really isn't that weak. She's still not incredibly difficult or anything, but even the strongest characters in the game with the strongest legendary weapons usually need three rounds of combat to kill her, and while it's true she cannot counter at range, most weapons that can significantly hurt her are melee weapons. She's also quite strong and can 2HKO a lot of people.
I think what her fight and the dragon temple before it are actually meant to convey, is that the legendary weapons, and the Binding blade in particular... are truly busted.
... at least before the former were shown struggling to kill an injured fire dragon infant, but hey, the Binding blade itself isn't in FE7(and the Durandal does instantly destroy an adult Ice dragon in that same game, we'll call it type effectiveness I guess).

Honestly I think the Is interesting part about binding blade Is that Characters base stats and Growths Make sense to them. Cecilia sucks because she is still recovering from the beating she got from Zephiel and her Imprisonment during it. Sophia never faced threats like the Bern army before so is inexperienced. Percival and Derrick are badasses BECAUSE they experienced warriors already. Gonzales is inaccurate because he's more use to using his strength to solve things. Roy weakness symbolizes his growth as once he promotes and gets the Binding Blade he becomes Mighty.
That doesn't mean much of that WAS a good idea (Roy ahould have promoted AFTER freeing his nation or better tet AFTER defeating Narcian! At that point it symbolized him becoming the leader of the Alliance against Bern) and a plus I gave future Emblems after Binding Blade was they started to lower the Character roster. As this meant less POINTLESS characters. Even "so-called" ones in post Awakening FE can still be viable to use. And Tier lists are ever changing. Seeing once BELOVED overhyped characters get lowered while "their forever bad" getting a jump up a rank or two. The older Emblems did make it hard to NOT change out chatacters as they came because of ease in making new ones viable. So happy to be able to use more characters then force a challange run on myself.

I watched this and skimmed through the comments but didn't see this mentioned. Idunn's being so weak in the game wasn't done intentionally and was actually a last minute change. If you datamine the game you can see leftover code, originally she was supposed to have a very powerful weapon which would also buff up stats A LOT, to the point where the dragon effective weapons would do maybe single digit damage and only the binding blade could do reasonable damage. Nobody's 100% sure why she made her so weak before release, it's thought that the developers were scared that players would run out of Binding Blade uses and just made her weak to be safe. It's odd because Binding Blade is pretty rough around the edges in all other aspects, it's likely harder than FE7 HHM and 8 yet has such an easy final boss. EDIT for grammar.

Yall wanna know the actual reason i got from a random youtube comment section that im too lazy to verify? If you notice, in the fight, even legendary weapons barely scratch idunn. At the very least, not at the same rate as the binding blade. This is because devs reeeaaaally wanted you to get the true TRUE ending by having roy kill her. Thing is, in the games code, you can find an unused dragon stone, the same as idunns, but one that grants her a shit ton of stats. An actually tough boss fight. With those stats, it is nigh-impossible to beat her without the binding blade, ensuring the true ending. However, devs got scared abt what would happen if the binding blade broke somewhere in the chapter or slightly before. Since that would basically be a softlock, they opted against the extra shit ton of stats and left the underwhelming one we have now. Cool vid though and probably the actual reason instead of something i read once.

So in other words because of the story and plot, you’re pretty doomed to cake walk the boss. Sweet.

2:07 the only Dragonslayers that work on Idunn are the Binding Blade and Fae's Divine Stone.
she is still piss easy, but Armads and Durandal wont deal effective damage against her.

I understand why she's like this, I just feel like the presentation isn't satisfying and I don't feel that it was delivered well + I thought the dragon sprite was kinda meh. Her theme is beautiful tho

HELL no. Nergal's wife, Aenir, was an Ice Dragon from Ilia. She died during the scouring, and that's what caused Nergal to start studying dark magic and become evil.

@@implord4197 Nergal was already likely studying Dark Magic beforehand, I.E. WHEN he was living with Aenir. But his studies then were kinda more like Canas' and Niime's, for comparison. It was only after he met Athos and was led to Arcadia, which was in itself sometime after Aenir died, that he was driven to researching particularly forbidden Dark Arts.
