I thought I had the Bible put in a more understandable form, previously. Matt makes this come much more alive, visual and remember-able. I greatly appreciate your work, Matt. :)
I can say from personal experience that miracles like this do happen. To speak in one language and the hearer listening in their own, different, language. It's an amazing blessing to see when all the barriers drop and we can just be ourselves with each other and before the LORD. HE still works amazing miracles and does so in many ways. I know that words of hope can sometimes feel like salt in an open wound, I promise though that the LORD cares, hears, and loves. We rise up by lifting each other, I pray that is something we all do as this year continues forward and for those to come. Even if we're not together, we're never alone. ^.^
How wonderful!! Praise God! The way you’ve profoundly explained “miracles”. I absolutely agree- it’s not explainable! It must only be God! Great job! Thank you, bless your channel ministry!
I'm a recent viewer, and have been binge watching to try to catch up. I love your humble and open minded approach to learning and teaching. As an aside, I've seen malfunction-junction. I live about 2 hrs from Zoo-town, up in the Kalispell area.
I found Acts pt 7!! Woohooo. Silly me...it's all laid out pretty simply, I just had to click around here and there. (Patience is something I work on daily!). Good teaching while sittin here eating my yogurt and nuts/raisins I'm liking this series. So glad I found it. If there is one problem...it's that I can binge on it and since I have responsibilities I gotta watch that. Funny, eh? Ten minutes easily turns into 30, 45...
Hey Matt. Became a subscriber after listening to the NDQ's podcast. Excited to get going through your journey through Acts. Also excited to see that I have a lot of episodes to get through. Thanks for your effort in making the world a better place.
I have also thought its interesting that the same people shouting, "crucify Him!" would have also been in the crowd of "God-fearing Jews from every nation," since it was an established Jewish festival and only 50 days after the public spectacle of Jesus' crucifixion. I wonder what they thought when, "a crowd came together in bewilderment?" Also, I think its pretty cool that Peter writes to people from many of the same provinces that were present during Pentecost in 1 Peter 1:1 and calls them exiles who have been chosen. Loving your channel (and NDQ) and really enjoying the series on Acts, thanks so much!
Smart commentary on an amazing story! Excited to see more! Bonus off topic video idea......obscure reference challenge! I feel i would do well......but this Lindsey person would keep up (somewhat)
Eric Ex Thanks for the kind words mister. In addition to trying to use the image panel to make occasional helpful points, and to show images of historical characters and maps, I have to admit that I most enjoy cramming them in for jokes and fun references. I haven't heard from anyone who's tracked with every image from any of the episodes, but that's part of the fun. I do think Lindsey M and Scott R could give you a run for your money. They are on the same wavelength. I'll have to think about how to do something like what you've suggested.
I found your channel via "No Dumb Questions", and I'm very glad I did. This is a great addition to the series we are going through at Tree City Church & your delivery is a huge help for me in digesting the material & associating with the early church. Thanks for the commitment to doing this in addition to a full time gig. Side note, I grew up going to Rockies games when they were still the Denver Zephyrs #303
The part about the disciples speaking in different languages was really brought home for me here. I usually would just pass over that without really giving it much attention. But
BTW I am going to present your study to our pastors tomorrow and see if they will let me present it to the church. I believe that your study, as much as I ha e gained from it thus far, is a great way for people our age to begin "grazing" on the book of Acts. It is a very large meal to try and take in all at once, and I admit that I have actually _avoided_ Acts after trying to do just that. The whole Pentecostal movement has shied many from diving into it out of fear that it won't make any sense. They way you have presented each verse, one blade of grass at a time, makes it that much more palatable and I actually had an epiphany during Episode 7 (coming g this Christmas!). _Acts actually makes sense; it is not all the hocus pocus that so many conservative and new Christians think it is_ For your HIUNDREDS of hours of hard work so far, I award you *Eternal Internets* so that you can complete the series with wings like an eagle. Keep it up, boss. (Mustangs are chick cars)
Actually, it wasn't a rushing wind, but a SOUND like a mighty rushing wind. I could imagine it got very loud, but I don't think things were getting blown around.
The Ten Minute Bible Hour Thanks man! I was able to find the artist after searching for quite some time last night lol. now I just need to figure out how to buy it!....
4:10 why do you think that them "all" are the 120 believers and not the 12 disciples that were mentioned in the previous verse and are the ones mentioned later to stand up and address the crowd?
+IamGrimalkin Great question. I assume that they were all together because it was the Day of Pentecost (a religious holiday) and they would have been observing that as a group of believers, and because Luke says "all" without ever adjusting what group he was talking about. Did all 120 speak in tongues? Maybe? I don't know for sure, but it seems very unlikely to me that only 12 of the 120 would have been together on a day that's as big a deal as Pentecost.
(Rose) Do you think it was it the 12 speaking in tongues, or the 120? If it was the 12 that would be a cool way to acknowledge God affirming the casting of lots and choosing of Mattias. I was very challenged by that piece of scripture. Not because I oppose any of it, but because I just really struggle with not wanting to mess up (even though I am not organized, systems both make me feel safe and I don't trust them and they make me cry and I am not detail oriented and mess up all the time) Also, it's really crazy to me that Jesus spent all that time in his life preaching to all the people and teaching and healing and he's left with 120 ride or die people after he ascends to heaven. I guess there's a lesson in there somewhere too.
Hey Matt! Fairly new subscriber here. Been really enjoying your content. I know this is an older video, but I was wondering if you ascribe to cessationism, or if you believe the spiritual gifts continue on to present day. I’ve heard both arguments, and honestly am not sure where I stand on this question just yet. If you have a video on it that I just haven’t found yet, feel free to point me to it. Appreciate what you do a lot, and just wanted to get your take on it. Thanks and God bless!
I think it's important to realize that Hebrew was spoken by all religious Jews of the first century. It's like Pennsylvanian Dutch to the Amish. It's the language of their religious culture. They all know English (the language of the outside culture) but their first language is their religious tongue. History tells us how hard the Jews resisted Hellenization. The Sadducees were more Hellenized than the Pharisees, who were far more influential within their culture than the Sadducees were. The fact that all religious Jews spoke Hebrew is provable by Scripture. When religious Jews came to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, Pilate made sure Jesus I.D. was written also in Hebrew, and tacked above him, on the cross. And when the same group of religious Jews returned for Pentecost years later, it is recorded in Acts 22:2, that when they heard Paul speak Hebrew, they kept silent, to hear him better. They all knew Hebrew. And that's very important in the context of Acts 2. God didn't need tongues to communicate the gospel to the multilingual crowd. He could have used Hebrew... and that's probably the language Peter preached in, to the whole crowd. The tongues were for a sign. They were not a tool used to communicate the gospel. In fact, tongues were never used in Acts for communicating the gospel. Instead, they were the recognizable proof understood by the whole church, that showed a new believer was truly filled with the Spirit. Acts 8... Acts 10... Acts 19. In each case, the 'proof' was the tongues. There was never a question whether those tongues were fake, or demonic, or pagan. They were just accepted at face value.
Well, I am 7 years late, but I still want to say how much I enjoy your work, your attitude, and your humor. Thanks Matt. ✝️🙏👍
I'm in the same boat
The mention of Matthias is so important to Catholics. It’s a key to unlock a piece of traditional understanding.

That means a lot Dale. Thank you.

10:10 Why did my brain say, "he uses memes to accomplish his purposes"?
When I was a kid my mom told me that God knew how many hairs were on my head. (Insert bald joke here) ... Just kidding! Nice video, keep it up!
There was a time in my life when knowing that number would have been a challenge. Less so now.
Thanks for the encouragement and for watching!
love this
That T-Shirt!!!
Actually, it wasn't a rushing wind, but a SOUND like a mighty rushing wind. I could imagine it got very loud, but I don't think things were getting blown around.
That painting? of Moses and the parted sea is amazing! Do you know who's the artist?
JustGamer I'm pretty sure it's a screen cap from "Prince of Egypt." The parting of the sea scene was beautiful.
The Ten Minute Bible Hour Thanks man! I was able to find the artist after searching for quite some time last night lol. now I just need to figure out how to buy it!....
I watched it friend 😆
Car reference is your tee shirt about Shelby mustangs?
... Not like it's a cool car or anything. It's like everyone has those

6 years later thanos snapped his fingers, and half of the universe vanished

#ithinkyouhavemystapler And I now understand why God isn't using me as much as I anticipated...I'm neither underwhelming nor flawed. #sarcasmmuch ? :D
