  • Innsbrucker Klettersteig is a wonderful high-altitude hike with climbing inserts - divided into 2 sections - in the Karwendel Mountains high above the Inn valley and the golden roof of Innsbruck.
The Nordkettenbahn takes you comfortably to an altitude of almost 2200m on the Hafelekar. Immediately near the Hafelekar mountain station, the first section of the Innsbruck via ferrata begins - almost to be referred to as the Innsbruck Höhenweg , due to the route over the Nordkette - with no major differences in altitude. Information signs and board at the entrance.
The entrance from Innsbruck's via ferrata (Hannes Gasser Route) sets the pace - steep and defused with stirrups - you first have to overcome a 15m high steep step.
This is followed again and again by secured passages that alternate with walking passages for which, however, surefootedness and a head for heights are necessary. The experienced via ferrata climber completes the first summit all too quickly until he is already at the highest point of the tour, the Kemacher (2480m).
This is the highlight of the tour in terms of height, but as far as the really rewarding via ferrata passages are concerned, this should only follow in the second section after the long saddle.
The second part of the Innsbruck via ferrata at the eastern and western Sattelspitze is much more classy and with more "air under the bum". You should definitely do this section, but also keep an eye on the last descent of the cable car (otherwise there is a long descent via Höttinger Alm down to the city of Innsbruck)!
    Total distance: 6867 m
    Maximum altitude: 2438 m
    Minimum altitude: 1897 m
    Total ascent : 556 m
    Total descent : -926 m

You really should! But only if you are not a beginner. The Austrian via ferratas are more difficult then German.

imagine climbing a via ferrata, having via ferrata gear on your harness and just not clipping in.... moronic at best
