Honestly, guys, I absolutely love this sort of content. I don't know how the DBZA to "eating unhealthy food and ranking it" transition happened but I'm happy it was.
That discoloration on the DQ strip is a result of being either over frozen or a defrost refrozen possibly during shipping so ice crystals formed resulting in water in the oil while it was cooking which will dry it out extra as the water pulls out some of the fats and oils as it evaporates from the heat and yeah also causes that burnt overcooked look as well because it cooks faster in the areas the ice crystals were
Jesse is on point about Jack in the Box is for high people. I mean explain that munchies box, and who the hell would buy egg-rolls and tacos from the same place unless you weren’t high.
Cane's sauce is super easy to make. Mayo, ketchup, worchestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, and as much pepper as you have in your house and also your neighbor's
@FourStarBento Jesse Canes Sauce is super simple: 3/4 cup of Mayo 5 tbl of Ketchup 1.5 tbl Worcester Sauce 1 clove of fresh garlic finely minced (I use a zester for ease) (The restaurant uses garlic powder) 1.5 teaspoons of salt Black pepper to taste (I love adding some white pepper too for full mouth feel) Mix well Rest in the fridge overnight. (note credit for the base of this combo goes to Josh Weisman's recipe I just tweaked a few and added white pepper)
As someone who works in the food industry I can tell you that most fast food places get their chicken from the same places only difference is in how they cook it
I'm curious too 'cause Bojangles is AWESOME...but I'm not sure I've ever done their like nuggets or tenders. I like them for their standard fried chicken.
I, also, HATE if I get some gristle in my chicken. For that reason, I can't eat tenderloin cuts of chicken. They have that line of fat down the middle with the tough fat at the top. It grosses me out every time. Love you all SO MUCH, thank you for the delightful content!! If you're like me and can't have gluten, I have a recommendation! You'll need a Costco membership, but find the RealGood Foods lightly breaded gluten free chicken strips. They are AMAZING! Tasty on their own, crispy out of the oven, and not made from pressed chicken bits. They are real chicken and deliciously addictive! Better than most restaurants, imo AND gluten free!
DQ's motto in VA is "We're fan food, not fast food, which is appropriate considering their service has never been any kind of fast at any location I've ever visited, and you really have to be a fan of their mid food to want it regularly.
I live in Arizona and we have lots of Whataburger locations in my city. It’s also one of my favorite fast food places. The honey barbecue chicken sandwich is so good.
Burger King disappointed me because their nuggets replaced their so-called "tenders", which were nuggets in all but name. They tasted completely different than their current nuggets or chicken fries taste.
McDonalds has a Hot Mustard that was like discontinued nationally, but specific franchises can request to have it available. I moved last year and the one near me has it and like...I will sometimes order McNuggets with extra hot mustard sauce packets when I'm running low. Like even if I'm not in the mood for McNuggets, I need to replenish my hot mustard supply.
Personally, I’m a fan of Hardee’s/Carls jr’s tendies. 90% of the time you gotta wait for ‘em but when you get ‘em they’re all hot and juicy, no sauce needed, good crunch and not too heavy on the breading, but then you add that buffalo ranch and AUGHHHH😫😫😫😫
Ive had Jack-in-the-Box once when I went to Sacramento like... 20 years ago almost. The best chickenburger I ever had that wasn't "freshly made", I had at their place. It was fucking fantastic.
As an Australian, my drivethru options are limited, but in terms of nuggets alone it will be: KFC, Macca's (with sauce), Red Rooster (cheesy chicken nuggets), then Hungry Jacks (Burger King). There are some other chicken options not in the nugget variety from other stores such as Oporto and El Jannah. Both are good but harder to come by.
It's interesting that Nick brings up fast food in Cleveland. For some reason, until recently, Cleveland was very resistant to fast food chains establishing in the area that weren't already there. There wasn't a Canes there until the last couple of years. Same for Culvers, Swensons, and a few others. Notably, it's a Tim Horton's dead zone. Timmy's is Detroit, Toledo, Columbus, Erie, and Pittsburgh. Every other city around Cleveland, but not there. I don't know why it's like that.
I will say, KFC tanked hard with the nuggets. Their popcorn chicken was amazing. I hate that they replaced them with the nuggets. Like, the nuggets aren't bad, but they are super oily and mid. Popcorn chicken was crunchy and crispy, so good. It was a staple for like 20 years before they removed it, such a shame.
The dryness making a difference with Caines makes so much sense, because I tried Caines a couple times, and as someone who eats his tenders dry, I was thoroughly unimpressed each time.
The sauce I keep in the fridge at work is the Iron Kitchen (formerly Iron Chef) General Tso's sauce/glaze. It elevates just about any tenders from any pub or restaurant
22:15 as a manager for Tbell for a few years, the franchisees know. They know which stores produce a higher product. It's really up to the franchisees to help it
Trick I've found with reheating stuff in the air fryer, spray it with some water from a spray bottle. Doesn't make it soggy at all and in my experience stops it from getting dryer
I think Deadpool did say something like "time to make the chimichangas" right before one of the big fights in either 1 or 2. Can't remember which. It was not organic
The bad nugget story was a core childhood experience for me too. McDonalds nuggets every trip as a little kid, one bad gristly nug, never again. I didn't touch em for like two decades. I just switched to fries with sweet and sour sauce.
Dunno about everyone else's experience, but the downtown Jack-in-the-box here has really good fries for a large fast food chain, especially the curly fries (which I always just assumed was their specialty because it's like Jack-in-the-box spring and the fries box is the box) Don't think I'd ever order chicken there either though.
Of course Whataburger is overrated. So is In-n-out. Every region has that one burger chain that's a community staple that everyone loves but also simultaneously, is *just a burger*. In Seattle its Dick's Drive-in. Some places in the south/midwest its Cookout. On the east coast it was Shake Shack before they decided to go international. They're a cut above national chains even on a bad day for about the same price, and that's why we love them.
If McDonald's still had the chicken selects, I know for sure they'd be higher. The fact they got rid of them has made it to where I don't automatically go there whenever I feel like eating at fast food and ONLY whenever I get nug cravings.
Aww yall didnt get my favorite (Though its fair since they dont have many locations in TX right now) Im a recent convert to the church of Bojangles after I discovered them at a layover in Atlanta, and let me tell you: Their chicken is addictively good Bojangles to me represents the rarest yet most dangerous kind of spicy: Its spicy enough that Im sitting there in the airport sweating bullets, that tingly prickly sensation rolling down my throat with each bite, it actively hurts me just a little to eat this. But heres the dangerous part, its so tasty, and crispy, and juicy, that I stopped caring and just sweat it out. Not to mention, they make these huge fresh buttermilk biscuits from scratch daily, definitely worth pointing it out. But of the ones you tried today: Canes and Popeye's, though occasionally I do just have a craving for McD's specifically
As with most quick serve products: your mileage may vary. It very much does change based on who makes it. (Yes, even products known for their consistency.)
Mild criticism: the whiteboard is kinda hard to track / manage. Would it make more sense to just stack them in front of the counter facing the camera? You could put your control in the middle and then just continue to move them left or right as you make decisions.
I might just have lucked out in this department, but I didn't know that whataburger was largely seen as a texas only thing because theres been a few in Mississippi for the longest time (Like I can think of at least one that has been around since I was like a small small child)
Just putting this out there - when BK first started selling nuggets, I went and got them, kind of excited to see how they were. The friend I went with and I agreed, they tasted just like the Great Value, Walmart brand nuggets.
Sound's like Whataburger is kinda the same as Dairy Queen. I never go to Dairy Queen for a meal it's only Ice cream specifically Blizzards or a dipped cone.
While acknowledging it's a tenders + nuggets video, and personally really liking Popeye's tenders, I'd say Popeye's sandwiches are their best thing. The blackened sandwich is my current go-to but the deluxe spicy is king on their menu imo.
If Im ever going for tenders, its usually Bojangles or Hardees. Neither of which made the base selection, though I dont think Bojangles made it that far east yet.
I think after Lani's IHOP story, the boys should review casual dining chains next
Agreed and I'm going to need Waffle House in there.
The RiffTrax guys went to Golden Corral. They can at least go to a Dairy Queen.
Jesse got the mob bosses son/nephew vibes with the fit this episode
Straight outta a miami vice episode
Nick's the mob boss
Honestly, guys, I absolutely love this sort of content. I don't know how the DBZA to "eating unhealthy food and ranking it" transition happened but I'm happy it was.
Jesse talking about eating chicken with autism just triggered so many childhood memories of fearing and eating around any darker meat

Perfect title, chicken is the ultimate food
Whether it be nuggies, tendies, or big pieces of fried. Breaded, seasoned. So many ways of chicken 🐔 consumption
I kind of wanted this to be a video of Lani teaching Jesse how to make homemade chicken nuggets.
Why did Lani hold up Ba's ear like that? Broly will be mad.
Timely comment for me specifically, I just saw that movie today!
@FourStarBento Jesse

Next video, take Lani to an iHop and ask him how it was.
It's gonna have to be multiple IHOPs, to get an average measurement of service to nonservice.
The fact that my home town is name dropped. Made my night. Thank you Lani! And yes, that tourism video is just... yeah....
As someone who works in the food industry I can tell you that most fast food places get their chicken from the same places only difference is in how they cook it
I won't fault them for not having it because it's mostly a NC thing right now, but I do wonder where Bojangles would fall in their ranking.
I'm curious too 'cause Bojangles is AWESOME...but I'm not sure I've ever done their like nuggets or tenders. I like them for their standard fried chicken.

Jesse being Autistic makes so much sense.

No Zaxby's, whaaaat? Cane's is 2nd because sauce, but Zaxby's needs no sauce. They are the juiciest by far!
Now I wonder how this would have gone with Jollibee included. And maybe the nearest Korean Fried Chicken place.
Burger King disappointed me because their nuggets replaced their so-called "tenders", which were nuggets in all but name. They tasted completely different than their current nuggets or chicken fries taste.
BK seriously woke up one day and decided to fuck up all of the chicken on their menu

As someone who will regularly grab an ultimate bacon cheeseburger from Jack in the Box, yeah I have never had ANY drive to try their chicken.
Omg I thought I was crazy about the Dino-Nuggies! They were *sooooooo* good just a few years ago, it’s not kid-memory, I loved them in my late 20s

Did not expect to get called out like that for living in (just outside of) Cleveland, Ohio. Loving the food ranking videos.
The secret to Sonic chicken is asking for the brown mustard they use on the hotdogs
My go-to sauce I keep mixed in my fridge is 65% reduced salt/sugar ketchup, 25% honey mustard, 10% habanero honey mustard.
This is great to watch on lunch break
Honestly, out of the ones I've had that you ranked I have to agree with their rough placements.
The bad nugget story was a core childhood experience for me too. McDonalds nuggets every trip as a little kid, one bad gristly nug, never again. I didn't touch em for like two decades. I just switched to fries with sweet and sour sauce.
man i love these food videos but they always leave me craving whatever food they're eating. I dont have any chicken right now :(

This *almost* made me order some Bojangles chicken. Some of the better fast food bird where I'm at imo.
28:43 Lani starts his IHOP horror stories, clearly he was just savvy enough to GTFO before the backrooms axe murderer monster went after him too.
I watched this specifically to convince myself to order some fried fish.
It's working.
I wasn't expecting Fast Food Chicken.
I thought it was going to be like Tyson vs Perdue Farms and all of those.

They should write a tier list. It's weird they haven't tried yet
Oh I love the canes near me.
or I would... IF I HAD ONE
No Ultra Mega Chicken? I guess it makes sense... He is legend
13:00 I feel like us Minnesotans either stay here forever or escape to Texas, glad to know nick reinforces the stereotype
Ok, tomorrow I'll be getting KFC. I guess I shouldn't have watched this at 12AM

Just putting this out there - when BK first started selling nuggets, I went and got them, kind of excited to see how they were. The friend I went with and I agreed, they tasted just like the Great Value, Walmart brand nuggets.
Jack in the Box is good for seasoned curly fries and their Sourdough Jack, that is my favorites and i will kill for that.
I didn't know Lani was from Minnesota. that's neat.
Should have done Wendy’s spicy bugs. That would bring it up a notch
Cane's sauce has never worked for me. I've found that Frank's buffalo goes really well with it.
I FELT THE VIDEO DESCEND FROM THE AETHER
Sound's like Whataburger is kinda the same as Dairy Queen. I never go to Dairy Queen for a meal it's only Ice cream specifically Blizzards or a dipped cone.
I love my brain, even when it changes words like “he” to “it” and makes the lovely note at 1:04 very confusing for no reason
Need to come back later because this makes me want chicken.
Missed oppurtunity to just put a circle around Lani's face for the subscribe button!
