  • Major George Eugene Bostwick was assigned 2 P-47s during his tour with the 63rd FS, 56th FG, US 8th AF stationed at Boxted, Essex, England. Both of the P-47s were named "Ugly Duckling" but this name was never painted on his aircraft. Bostwick scored eight aerial victories between June 7, 1944 and April 7, 1945. On March 25th 1945 Bostwick shot down an ME-262 and damaged another on April 7, 1945. Along with his eight aerial victories Major Bostwick is credited with 2 aerial damaged and 6 ground victories.
    Today's example is by Hobby Master in 1:48 diecast, from the Air Power Series and is a Republic P-47M Thunderbolt, from the USAAF 56th FG, 61st FS, #44-21112, as flown by George Bostwick, RAF Boxted, England, in 1945.

    Looking good! I like that paint scheme. I have on order a 1/72 Hobby Master F8F Bearcat in the 1946 Blue Angles scheme. Assuming the scales were the same, I'd like to see the size comparison between a Bearcat and a "Jug". Speaking of size comparisons, a few days ago I got my second and third models from Hobby Master, a 1/72 A-4M Skyhawk (USMC VMA-214 "Black Sheep" Squadron) and an F/A-18F (USN VFA-103 with black and yellow "Jolly Roger" tail), anyway, in placing my A-4 next to my very first HM model, an E-2C Hawkeye, the entire wingspan of the Skyhawk is equal to just the outside wing portion of one of the E-2's wings...outside of the E-2's engine nacelle! It'll give a person a whole new appreciation for E-2 and C-2 pilots landing on aircraft carriers.

      @heavymetaldiecast  3 месяца назад

      Yeah its a pretty in your face livery,haha I saw HM are releasing those, I have been trying to get a Bearcat myself for awhile from Falcon Models I think thats who used to make them, but the prices can be very extreme!!! Those Skyhawks are nice little units, and the HM hornets are really well done too, so you wont be disappointed!! Yes the Hawkeye is a pretty big bird for an aircraft carrier, looking forward to Calibre Wings releasing the Tracker!! The Vigilante is a large plane for an aircraft carrier which would have been pretty hairy to land!!! Thanks again for dropping past and taking the time to checkout the video and comment. Cheers

      @@heavymetaldiecast I've seen both the Tracker and the Vigilante online. When a livery that speaks to me comes out, I guess I won't be able to say no. After the Bearcat, I think I'll be getting an F-14 coming out later this year. So many cool planes, so few $$$. 🤠👍

      @@espeescotty It certainly is a hobby that can send you broke really quick. I have another Vigilante video coming out soon, but similar to the first one in terms of livery. I know there is a SEA camo recon version that I want to try and get. That HM bearcat look pretty good in pics so far, be interesting to see the difference between theres and I think its SkyMax that do a Bearcat. I know its either SkyMax or Falcon models that did one!!!

      @espeescotty 3 месяца назад +1

      @@heavymetaldiecast The info on the website does mention SkyMax in relation to that Hobby Master Bearcat. Being new to collecting, I was under the impression that Hobby Master had a line called SkyMax. Perhaps they have acquired SkyMax or have an arrangement to make SM models now. Either way, I shall know if it is a nice model in a month or two.

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  3 месяца назад +1

      @@espeescotty SkyMax were their own company that had stopped releasing models for awhile, but have started up again recently. Maybe Hobby Master bought them I am not sure. A lot of manufactures seem to share molds around at times. Ive seen Witty Wings, JC Wings, Gemini Aces and even Herpa use the same mold for certain aircraft and just different liveries, and packaging and pricing,haha. Another fun aspect of the diecast world. You can even get the exact same aircraft but in different packaging. I had a model from DeAgostini and one from IXO and they were the exact same model right down to the markings but one was dearer than the other!!! Either way if its ex SkyMax mold or Hobby Master's own, they should be great looking models as both companies make good models that I have seen so far!!

    Shows off the size of the Jug for sure. I have a Dragon model of a 56th Fighter Squadron P47 and its colour scheme is the same but much more subdued and hence not so startling. The 56th FG were the only Group flying the P47 in 1945 in 8th Air Force as they had introduced it into service, loved it (unlike the 4th FG, The Eagles who certainly did NOT) and they pulled strings not to convert to the P51. The M variant gave a lot of trouble with its more powerful engine initially however but this was quickly resolved and it carried on the war with the Wolfpack to the end.

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  3 месяца назад

      Yeah these are certainly big birds for sure. I have a Dragon Wings one too, probably the same as yours. I'm yet to open that though. I think I read the M was plagued by some engine issues or something. There were some corrosion issues during transport via sea or something to that affect, I am most likely wrong. I'm no expert,haha. The jug was a love or hate kind of plane for pilots I think. For me if I was to go to war and had the choice out of a P-51 or a P-47 I'll take the '47 everytime!! Thanks for checking out the video!!

    • @peterhewson3216
      @peterhewson3216 3 месяца назад +1

      @@heavymetaldiecast Spot on. Some Groups were not as enthusiastic about transitioning to the P51 as legend suggests as they thought the P51 was more subject to battle damage and engine failure as it was inline and liquid cooled and vulnerable during low level attacks. Spam Can was what some called the Mustang. It also had quite a swing on take off. But it was more manoeuvrable and better flight characteristics in dogfighting and of a phenomenal range of course. A war winner.
      Have a few Dragon Wings Jugs from the 9th Air Force which are as always, superb and nice to see a/c from units other than the Mighty Eighth.

    Great model, terrible paint scheme. I wish I knew more aircraft marking history. There seems to be a few with slightly off-color schemes and markings. There's a new RAAF spitfire coming out that in drawings looked phenomenal but in final production it looked terrible

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  3 месяца назад +2

      Haha yes it definitely a livery you will either love or hate with no middle ground on this jug!! I have another aircraft in 1:72 from Dragon Wings in the same paint scheme, but different aircraft so obviously the squadron had a number of birds a painted this way for some reason!! My theory would be you would only be painting this colour scheme when you have air superiority, haha. Yeah sometimes things always look better in pictures than real life. Colours can change from screen to screen, its not until you see it in the metal when you see the true colour!! Thanks for watching!!!

    I know you love US fighters but I don’t really like any of them. They just don’t look sleek like the German fighters. The US planes were very functional and hard to shoot down of course. Rugged and robust, but not very nice to look at in my humble opinion 😅

    • @heavymetaldiecast
      @heavymetaldiecast  3 месяца назад +1

      You know what, to be honest my preference is all things German,haha because of my family heritage. And your opinion not only counts, but is correct,haha. But I do like a Thunderbolt because they are ugly and tough as nails!!! But since starting the channel and trying to cater for everyone and a lot of the times allied aircraft are cheaper to buy, I have found myself getting a lot of allied aircraft!!! But I did get a rare Ju-52 Minesweeper one recently...which cost a lot,haha...probably could have bought 6 Mustangs for the same price,haha

      @shinra2755 3 месяца назад

      @@heavymetaldiecast That Ju-52 sounds tremendous!! Can’t wait to see it.
      I like German designs the best because of the innovation but also because they just look the part. The likes of the night-fighting Bf 110s on the Eastern front and the FW-190s in the west just look magnificent. Having said that, I do like some of the Allied designs too. I’ve remarked before how the Mosquito is up there as my favourite ever airplane. That thing is a sight to behold. I’m also partial to the B-17 and I wouldn’t say no to a Lightning either 😅
      But the Germans just knew how to produce absolutely stunning-looking birds, and politics aside, I will always respect them for reinventing and repurposing designs when the need arose.
