    Good info. Play the vid back in 1.5x speed though.

    SLog will introduce noise simply because the base ISO is high. Increasing it will make things worse. You do need to expose to the right, but if you don't have enough base light to begin with, you're compounding your noise problems and making for a worse image than Cinegamma/Rec709. The main use-case for Log profiles is when you have a high contrast and want to hold as much detail in the mids/highs at the expense of shadows. Don't bother shooting in a dark environment or low-contrast environment in LOG, it's not going to improve your shots.

      I Wanna shoot slog for bright and sunny days but the ISO min is killing me. I feel slog should be left alone in the dark till I have an 10bit camera.

      ND filters are your friend....and a must-have accessory for shooting LOG outside. I use the Sony FS5, which has the amazing built-in variable ND filter. Makes shooting LOG so much easier. For commercial shoots, I'll use the SmallHD's 702 monitor with built-in LUTs, which is another great tool to approximate the final look you want to achieve. Unfortunately, I only get 8 bit in 4K, the 10 bit internal recording is HD only. Sony giveth, and Sony taketh away.

      Dj Cutt Entertainment ND filters are the answer. You will definitely have a better experience with s-log outdoors

      @@OrenArieli yes and no right? Mostly if you want to maintain shallow dof in daylight no?

      @@pascaljean2333 That's the DP's choice, and also where ND filters come in handy (if you want a larger aperture). There is an excellent explanation by a Sony Pro here: www.xdcam-user.com/2017/06/why-do-i-always-shoot-at-800-ei-fs7-and-f5/

    Very good info. Thanks. I'm new to the s-log and cine profiles. I was getting quite a bit of noise in s-log3. I'll definitely experiment with your recommendations of raising or lowering the iso as needed.

      Cine 2 for night time and Slog for day time I find works the best right now.

      Slog 3 is good for bright sunny days where your subject is in the shade. At night I would use cine2 over cine4. Cine2 favorites the shadows.

    thats not true, if you raise the iso you loose dynamic range, there is a reason for the standard iso

    • @DjCuttEntertainment
      @DjCuttEntertainment  7 лет назад +1

      To max the dynamic range slog wants you to ETTR.

      expose to the right in other ways, aperture, shutter speed, ISO is essentially post processing, aperture and shutter speed actually soak in real light.

      For the most part now I shoot in Cine 4 for outside. Cine2 for low light.

    I'm shooting a documentary about police right now. A lot of our field work is at night (if not all of it). Lots of low light, but the lights from the car really pack a punch. Would you recommend slog 2 or 3?
