One of the greatest plays ever in sports. Mallory and Liz showed the best sportsmanship and most humbling moments I’ve ever seen in any sport. Congratulations to Sara also for your home run and being a great player on the field and off. Best wishes to these girls in the future
Class is an understatement. You ladies are amazing. A true inspiration. Some things are more important than a win or a loss. To help the opposition in a situation like that, where you could have sit there and done nothing and won the game. Amazing, I don't know what else to say.
My son went to Central on a ROTC scholarship, he went on to serve as a Special Forces Officer in Iraq & Afghanistan, ending his service with life changing, and military ending, injuries. He will be the first to tell you that Honor, Service, & Sacrifice, as taught by those at Central, remain at the core of his life values. May all of those featured in this video be blessed.
it's refreshing to see players like these young ladies that exemplify what sportsmanship is all about. I really feel for this young lady. I've had a torn acl and know the pain this young lady must have endured.
Now this is the type of news I enjoy listening to! I commend those girls that did such a beautiful thing as carrying their team mate around the bases. Such a beautiful and touching story. You can be competitors and still respect eachothers game.. and skill. Thank you for posting.
This is a video and story that needs to be shown in schools. It is something that Athletes need to see and think about. It is very inspirational and is something I hope never happens to an athlete but it does and when it does I hope they help because it means A LOT to the player!
I have personally met these girls and they are just as great in real life. They did something most people wouldn't do, and that shows great heart and sportsmanship. :-D
Anna M Foster ..not totally shocked, but, I don't get it either.....we definitely live in a different era..I was born in 1963...in my heart, I truly believe that when I was that age and RUclips existed, there would have been 0 dislikes.....I worry for my nieces and nephew as to what the World and society holds for their future!
if the umps had known the rule, this would never have happened. Thank god they don't know everything. Outstanding display of sportsmanship. These ladies will go far.
regardless of Mallory & Liz's team losing, I agree if anyone wants the true definition of Sportsmanship have them watch this video it was a selfless act
It happens in Tennis. Players concede a disputed point routinely (the opponent is arguing with the official. The player benefitting from the call concedes if he agrees with the opponent)
Great story and an even greater act of sportsmanship. I thought to myself, what would I have done?... and it probably would have been something along the lines of thinking "tough luck" and waiting for the trainer to get them. haha.
I was touched & in aww one of the greatest sportmenship examples ever glad the rules were changed after this as well. Hard to believe this was 15 years ago good granny time has flown I was thinking it was only like 5 years ago but 15 mannnnn.. These three should be celebrities & super stars not the cowards like Lebron or never were soccer players with pink hair making thousands if not millions of dollars yet complaining & saying evil things about the people & country that allows them to do that & make such money. I doubt either pink hair or lebron would be making millions playing sports in russia or China or anywhere else really yet they love trying to bash the country & fans that allow that freedom for people to make money playing sports.
That happens to me. One of my knees is messed up and when I was tying I messed it up during the game and my brothers came an walked me around the bases cause nobody else was aloud to
when they could have done nothing, and taken sporting advantage of this girl's misfortune, they instead did the noble, humane thing - yes, they do restore my faith in the human race - it may have been a simple act in a nondescript baseball game, but it was life affirming and heroic at the same time..
I am a high school hockey coach and you ought to be ashamed of your comments. I love winning as much as the next guy and losing pretty much kills me, but when it's all said and done sportsmanship really is what you will be viewed for.
threeby8887 Her teammates weren't allowed to carry her around the bases. If they did, she would have been out. Also if she had a sub runner it would have only been a single.
Actually it was later determined that the umpires misinterpreted the rule. They could have substituted a runner since she was injured rounding the bases and it would have still counted as a homerun. This way, at least she got to do it herself thanks to the sportsmanship from her opponents. Regardless of the rule misinterpretation, it doesn't take away from the humanity in the story.
Sportsmanship like this does not conflict with wanting to win the game. The two runners she batted in were in. It cost one run (final score 4-2) and Central could have won in other innings and at other moments and I trusts they fully intended to do so. Letting an injury prevent a home run seems an unlikely rule - the person who said they got the rule wrong on that is hopefully correct. If not, that rule needs to be changed. With an over-the-fence home run a pinch runner adds no advantage.
softball is different from baseball i don't get how if her teammates were to touch her she would be out, because in the major leagues, when a person hits a home run, they give high fives to the 1st and 3rd base coaches and that's perfectly legal.
Thank God another person has the same view that I do. This whole thing is a huge fantasy. This would never ever happen in a pro or college game - the paramedics would come out and pick up the injured athlete and then a pinch runner could be implemented. No way in hell would members of the opposite team get all happy assed and carry a player from the opposite team due to an injury or homosexual tendencies or whatever! Cheers!!!!!!
But the score was 0-0 at the top of the second when all of this took place. They could not have had any idea how the game was going to turn out, but they did it anyways because it was the right thing to do. They still willingly put themselves an extra point behind.
I've watched a few different clips about this story, and I sort of get the feeling Sara is a bit full of herself. In other clips she goes on about this moment "helping" to achieve her "goal" and how hard it was to end her "career," without much expression of thanks to the assisting players. She's a bit nicer here since the interviewer sort of steers her to say it. Doing something for someone even without being fully appreciated makes what these girls did seem even more significant to me.
texasbmx246 ur mean I hope u now that why would they just wanna be on TV they r trying to be nice I bet u have no sportsman ship so stop commenting mean things like that
@ycdtotv - How anyone could take a negative view on this is just mind-boggling. But to then go further, call it pathetic, non-sportsmanship, and call these ladies traitors and COWARDS leads me to believe that you don't understand of the meaning of those words. Yes, this is a sport, but sports are PART of life, and life is NOT a game. Life doesn't come to a standstill because of a softball game. You need to reexamine your values. That's the nature of character, you either have it - or YOU don't.
Great jobs girls, you are awesome...but isn't it a shame that this is getting so much attention at even a national level because this type of kindness and selflessness is not the norm.
These two young ladies showed Empathy & Humility. Their parents taught them right in my opinion.
Being a humble person wins over being proud.
Seeing this story again in 2020. this story remains one of the great sportsmanship moments.
One of the greatest plays ever in sports. Mallory and Liz showed the best sportsmanship and most humbling moments I’ve ever seen in any sport. Congratulations to Sara also for your home run and being a great player on the field and off. Best wishes to these girls in the future
It has been 14 years. I wish these ladies the best. That day on the field, they won something much more valuable than just a softball game.
Class is an understatement. You ladies are amazing. A true inspiration. Some things are more important than a win or a loss. To help the opposition in a situation like that, where you could have sit there and done nothing and won the game. Amazing, I don't know what else to say.
I love Mallory Holtman's comments about why they did it. True class.
Finally! Some honor in sports! This is a fantastic story about some fantastic people.
I am a veteran and I would like for you to Thank your hero of a son for his service with-in the military and having to suffer career ending injuries.
those are the true meaning of what is an athlete true sportsmanship very classy
Holtman doesn't just lead her college in home runs, she is the all time home run leader for her Conference.
If you need to give someone a good definition of sportsmanship have them watch this.
Nice to see some people not caring about the winning of the game but the incouragement and sportsmanship
it's refreshing to see players like these young ladies that exemplify what sportsmanship is all about. I really feel for this young lady. I've had a torn acl and know the pain this young lady must have endured.
Awesome integrity in sports.these girls are a big inspiration to all athletes.
I cry every time I watch it. Amazing!
Amazing girls! Way to go! The world needs more kind hearts like yours!

Great sportsmanship ladies! I enjoy watching clips like this, over goons fighting any day.
Rather watch the Goons Fight. A least there is a WINNER!!
Great example of what sports and competition should be!!!! I only wish more parents and coaches expected this kind of behavior from young athletes...
This IS a Great Example of GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP. YOU BOTH DESERVE A MEDAL OR TROPHY DEFINITELY.
The humanity of it all is unbelievable...these girls show the kind of class which is seldom scene anywhere.
I like this story. I have lots of respect for all three of those girls.
I have personally met these girls and they are just as great in real life. They did something most people wouldn't do, and that shows great heart and sportsmanship. :-D
I can't believe people have disliked this

Some sad-sack basement-dwelling neckbeard losers just want to watch the world burn while they screw their MLP puppets.
this is so touching
ya i read this story in the newspaper. i was deff surprised of what happen!but this was an amazing act of sportsmanship!
I want to know what the parents thought. I know I would be so proud.
if the umps had known the rule, this would never have happened. Thank god they don't know everything. Outstanding display of sportsmanship. These ladies will go far.
A domestic cat tried to protect a human baby from assault by another human. THAT's a fucking hero.
I showed my 10 yr old daughter this video as a lesson about sportsmanship.
This is true sportsmanship both teams won .
Such a beautiful story!!!!
Such class, I'm so proud if these girls!

Central Power!! My alma mater!!
Happened again in 2023 for Southeastern University and Grandview University (Iowa). Yay sportsmanship.
What great girls..
OMFG if this happened to me I just might forget ny and go for boston the rest of my life in gratitude of u girls.
this is what the game is all about!
People being awesome GMH!

Just so people know Assisting The Runner is a live ball play. A homerun is a dead ball. There is not an assisting the runner possibly on this play.
That's amazing! Nice job, girls. That's what sports should be like all the time. - K
I am a high school hockey coach and you ought to be ashamed of your comments. I love winning as much as the next guy and losing pretty much kills me, but when it's all said and done sportsmanship really is what you will be viewed for.
GREAT Kids WINNERS ALL
I got choked up. Big thumbs up.

RIGHT ON
Thank you OBxSMITHxOB And nel713,
you guys always make me laugh when I watch this video..
I agree, I know it is a great story, but how would you drag this out into a full length movie? Are we that hard-up for movie ideas?
awesome

Man if you could see what you just wrote!
texasbmx246 ur mean I hope u now that why would they just wanna be on TV they r trying to be nice I bet u have no sportsman ship so stop commenting mean things like that
I'm mean it happens to me and when I was running
I wouldn't do this ever... but hey...
I wanna kiss and hug those two!
how do you miss 1st base on a homerun? u dont have to run fast at all??????? i dont get it and then you hurt yourself turning back .........
As I've said, her TEAMMATES should have carried her around the bases, not her opponents. These two players took sportsmanship a little too far.
Couldn't hav said it better.
aww
Classy
sounds like a personal problem to me
i think its real cool cuz alot of teams just care about winning i play softball so i owuld know and its not stupid... at all good job
it was shown in mine

onions.
This is one of the reasons smart companies hire women in leadership positions.
They couldn't carry her. According to the rules, if her teammates or coaches touched her she would be out.
