I watch Matt often especially sawing BID logs! and I saw him discussing the limitations of the availability of a frame big enough to handle the logs he wanted to cut BUT somehow i missed this episode! Glad I found it!!! Matt, you are truly one of a kind! Congrats!!!! Now: WHen are you going to motorize the carriage so you won't have to "hand-crank" it?

Thank you for the great summary and review. Your sawmill project is perhaps the most epic and ambitious DIY ever recorded on the utoob. I can't imagine the personal bravery you had to gin up to take it on, followed by the dedicated resolve and effort to actually complete it. Then afterward turning it into a functioning mill business to justify all that cost and effort has been great fun to watch too. And not even to mention your (two--count them TWO!) ancillary log-hauling trailer projects needed to make it all work. And all accomplished in the back yard of your own home. I watched the whole thing thinking the entire time, "His marriage cannot possibly survive this, and poor guy, he's married to an attorney. He's doomed!" You (and your wife) are absolutely unique in this world. Not one in a million couples could successfully undertake such a prodigious effort and risk. I was also constantly amazed at the patience you received from your close-living neighbors. Congratulations to BOTH of you on your great combined successful partnership! Live long and prosper.
Would you consider Elon Musk and SpaceX a DIY project? Me neither. So I guess this might be "the most epic and ambitious DIY ever recorded on the utoob". Sounds like hyperbola at first, but somebody prove Antti wrong.
I am 71, and was a structural Ironworker for almost 40 years. Matt, you have shown almost unbelievable skills in this build. Machinist skills, fabrication, welding, heavy rigging; all done safely and successfully in your dang DRIVEWAY. Take a bow Matt, you are the man. If not that, you are at least one of the men. Thanks.
WOW Matt. 7 years, I remember I could not wait for the next Sawmill drop. Piece by piece, shorts to coveralls you were always out there working on "The Build". Congrats on your success! !! !!!
With 40 years as a machine design engineer I am amazed at what you have accomplished. Your patience and attention to detail are great assets. I have watched your channel for over a year now and have learned much from your varied interests.
I remember this build. You had me captivated for weeks. I purchased your blueprints too. I first started watching you during your log arch build. I used your design and built one myself.
This is my favorite saw on YT. I like the shiny orange diesel-powered ones too, but most of them stay parked in a barn with electricity anyway, so they may as well be electric.
Hey Mathew,.I've just come across your channel, and I've got to say that build of yours is one of the best things I've seen on YT. Total respect to you, all that engineering, and different skills you incorporated into your build really impressed me As a qualified toolmaker, of 25 years, and I also had my own Floor fitting business for 20 years. , I can definitely appreciate the skills you've used. That transfer into your lumber business. 100% respect man, keep up the good work 😎
Thanks for the recap of your amazing build. Grappling with all of the mechanical design elements, the fabrication work … the sheer size of it …. You’re right up there with Noah as someone who’s built something impressive in his driveway. If not Noah then SV Seeker, Sampson Boat Co, Acorn to Arabella etc. Much respect from an old ME and tool lover.
Impressive build and glad it paid off. With the planning and high quality build I’m not surprised it’s lasted 7 years and I’m sure will go much longer. 👍
Hey Matt. This style of video showing your two logging trailers would be awesome as well! I really enjoyed this recap all in one video! Wow, time really flies when you're having fun! 🎉😂
Matt, can't believe it's been 6 years since it was completed! Seems like yesterday you started building it! Well, JR is a almost in middle school! He'll be in college before we know it!
Has it really been that long? wow. i think it’s so amazing and so well deserved that building that thing and putting it on RUclips has literally changed your life forever. that’s amazing too me. you deserve all the success that comes from it. your an artist Matt
I'll bet I'd watch that chain go around at least one full revolution, for sure. The triumph of making anything that actually works is a really good feeling to have. Well done, kid.!
Your ability to make things in your head into reality, and beautifully at that, is beyond my ability to even fully understand. I’m always in awe of your abilities Matt. Cheers 🎉
Really crazy to have this air today. Watching this sawmill build 5 ago led to the start of a sawmilling initiative at my University. This Fall we are offering a class based around sawmilling. Thanks for being such an inspiration!!!! Congratulations Matt!
Been watching you for I think a couple years and I had no idea that you built that whole saw. Absolutely amazing Mathew👊Love watching you cut up those big slabs. Keep the great videos coming Mathew🇺🇸
Hi, Matt, I remember when I first watched one of your builds. It was when you took what I think was a Queen Anne Highboy (?) you had built, and you and a friend loaded it up in the back of a truck, and brought it back out into the woods where it came from, and took some beautiful photos of it from there. I have watched this channel ever since. Thanks much.
Its amazing how robust you built your mill. Getting moved around, sitting in the elements, getting smacked with logs doesn't seem to bother it. Really a bullet proof, excellent build.
Thanks for putting together and sharing this anniversary summation. I wasn't even aware you had built it from scratch. I have enjoyed the last few years of your move, building, and both your accomplishments as a sawyer and woodworker. Best wishes and prayers for continued success and safety in the years ahead.
This is the series where I got hooked on your channel. I watched every one of the saw build and I enjoyed your work so much I kept watching. When you and Donovan started to rebuild your home, I just can't wait for what you put up next, comparable to Pavlov's dogs.
Thanks for the recap of your amazing 4 season build. Your dedication to the details of each and every step of this project is top notch. Or should I say a cut above all the rest.
I love every single bit of this build, the video, and the result. Like many people I can only dream of something similar, but I’d certainly like to build a mini version one day with a 2ft width or something
I had no idea that you built it from scratch - impressive! This question may require an answer that's too long to reply to, but I wonder where you picked up all the iron working knowledge. It might make an interesting video. As a woodworker, I wouldn't know where to begin building something like that. Great job!
I already watched all the build videos ages ago but I still wanted to watch this and enjoyed it.... there must be something about your voice or just how you present things that I find soothing or something lol.
I have to hand it to you Matt you have built an amazing setup for a home hobbyist I think it’s the best I’ve seen on RUclips that I know about. Well done you deserve to give yourself a pat on the back.
It wasn't long after you built this that I bought my first Alaskan and started inhaling too much sawdust as well. It really feeds the addiction of knowing what's inside the log. 2 bandmills later and I think I'm finally going to pull the trigger on a massive bandmill build next spring.
All this time I thought you bought it as a kit and only assembled it. Had no idea you designed and fabricated the entire thing. Wow, just wow! How many businesses do you have? Thanks for sharing, great video!
This is truly an epic build! The amount of work you put into this is insane, but it definitely paid off. Congratulations on 7 years, and here's to 7 more (at least)!
I only stumbled over your channel around 6 months ago and did not know, you built the saw yourself. I noticed, it does not look quite like most others, I have seen (which probably amounts to 5, 6 maybe 7 other saws...), but never figured, it was homemade. That is COOL!

I’ve been following and watching your vids for a few yrs and have always wondered how this was done. It’s inspiring to every person sitting at home thinking of all the projects (small or big) they have in mind around the house to just get up and do them. How long had you been metalworking prior to this? How much didn’t you know and had to teach yourself? Were you ever overwhelmed? As far as kids/family responsibilities, how much did this project affect that? It was probably your day job though at the time so perhaps not as much as a typical weekend diy by someone who has a separate job.
Thanks Matt for the build video. I have followed you for quite some time now and have constantly been impressed with everything done on your channel. Looking into getting the plans for the saw mill but I have to have the place for it first. Lol. Thanks for all you do Matt. Looking forward to seeing more content

Thanks for revisiting like this. I watched the entire build and it's good to refresh my memory. Have you given any consideration to a powered drive instead of that winch?

This was one of the most amazing builds I have ever seen on RUclips. Why it didn't get more views is very surprising to me.

It was actually the saw build that got me to your channel in the first place.
Same thing for me. Been a happy subscriber ever since.
I thought this was all his channel was about-- and then he started building furniture and I was like: "Oh, he's doing a little side quest" - lol.
