  • @rb-ex
    @rb-ex 2 года назад +54

    first of all it's good to see you well after an eventful year in your parts. probably most of us who follow your work in the forest have noted the long silence and wished the best for you
    interesting to see your lumber milling evolve. it's pretty amazing how you're able to get that quality of boards milled with a chainsaw in a fairly primitive yet somewhat precise and very precisely understood setup. when i set up my sawmill in the forest (a regular gas-powered bandsaw type), i first mounted 30' (about 9 meters) of steel trackbed onto the ground at a predetermined slope, so that i'd only hold the saw to keep it stable while it cut, and gravity would do the hard work. of course my setup was not portable, which means you need equipment to drag timbers to it. your thing is bring the mill to the timber, wherever it is. but a gravity feed might still help you, and your design wouldnt be harmed by finishing the channel and guide mating surfaces with an oil finish mixed with beeswax. applied hot and wiped off, this would not only help preserve your hard work, but also greatly reduce friction
    as far as your epicondylitis i have two pieces of advice: 1) there is a physical therapy device that reverses the condition. there are several brands out there, 'theraband flexbar' is what is use. but there is also logest, dmoose, viking strength and otrhers. they all do the same thing. you can look up the research on it if it interests you, 2) aspirin, by which i do NOT mean ibuprofen (motrin) or acetaminphen (tylenol), just plain old regular strength aspirin. this is not for its analgesic effect, which is salutary, but for its anti-inflammatory effect. one tablet an hour before work reduces injury by reducing inflammation while the tendons are being used. if you find it's right for you to try these, i've no doubt you'll see excellent long-term results and almost immediate benefits from both therapies
    there's nothing more permanent than a temporary solution

    I enjoy everything you do, but since you ask what we would like next, I vote for the bee video. I enjoyed your last bee video a lot and you've inspired me to start beekeeping myself. All the best from Norway.

    So great to see you safe and healthy! I'm also glad to see the content continue. My vote would be to see the bridge. I've seen lots of people on here build boats, but never a bridge!

    Your articulation is awesome. English only people in North America don't typically speak so eloquently. It's inspiring. The genius of your problem solving is next level.
    The only improvement I would make to your sawmill is an automatic kill switch that would shut the engine off after completing a pass. That way you can leave it unattended longer if needed.

    Max, as a Toolmaker/designer, prototype maker, pattern maker, master machinist, mechanic and general Jack-of-all-trades, most folks will understand when I say that I am not easily impressed with most people's work. But every time I see one of your videos, I am blown away! I have a circle blade sawmill that can make an 8x16 beam or, anything smaller. I was going to make an add-on carriage for my BIG chainsaw with 3-6 foot bar (1 to 2 meters) to slab large logs that my circle blade cannot do. But, you have just shown me there is a much better way. Your self-propelled sawmill is elegant in its simplicity. With the added benefit of not having to reset my sawmill every time I wish to change from milling dimensional boards to slabs. Thank you for the awesome videos!

    Glad to see you back. The quality of board that you can make with your chainsaw mill is really quite amazing. The part where the saw moves itself along the board was very cool. I think seeing how you build the bridge would be very interseting. Happy holidays! Thanks for the video!

    I have not seen one of these videos in ages, and thought I hadn't subscribed, but I remember doing it. I was surprised to see two projects in this video I did not recognize, so was pleased when you asked at the end, "which video to show". The answer is anything you seem to put your mind to is golden. So any video you wish to show us, as a Advoko MAKES fans, we will be impressed, by your skill, thought process and over all finished product. Good Day to you sir, and from the UK Merry Christmas.
