      Absolutely, in Clean Slate with the optional winter pack (heated seats and wheel). Nursing it through the break in period is going to be tough! Looking forward to doing a hill climb or a sprint in this bad boy.

    i bought the dark grey one a few months back love the color and have to say when i took it for a drive up the hills the handling was insane , its just effortless to drive , the pops and bangs make it all more the fun , you might not get the power of a golf r for example and the interior , but when your paying 10 to 15k less you could well afford to get more power and spruce up the interior , my mates were like what the hell you bought a hyundai , 10 minutes later when they have been it , holy shit was the common word they used , hyundai have done wonders on their first sports hatch

    Finally found the time to watch this episode 😊
    So great to see you having this much fun! The overboost function is something I didn't see being communicated through german media yet, interesting to know that!
    In Germany from what I know it's around 9000 Euro cheaper than a Golf GTI Performance with less power. And it really looks good, not too crazy like a civic type r. Which is surely a great great hot hatch, too, but you really have to like its style.
    Hopefully you can once check the new Megane RS, too. I would be extremely interested how you like this one.
    Keep going and greetings from Bavaria

    Why is Hyundai forcing the US to make do with the Veloster N and not sending us the I30N? They have the regular I30 in the US, fairly well liked and with Ford not sending the ST to the US, apart from the VW Golf and AMG GLA (both pricey), not a lot of choice in the hot hatch world. That said, the US also lacks the awesome BMW 1 series hatchbacks, which just looks so much fun.

      This doesnt have a mechanical lsd either, its an electronic one meaning its not an lsd at all. Its just software tricking the abs sensors to fire the left/right brake on or off. Chews the crap out of your rotors and pads if your driving hard.

    I drove one of the very first Performance versions a few months ago. Yes, it was pretty quick but overall I was left feeling a little underwhelmed. At that price, I'd prefer a new M140i or even a 2nd hand M2. Resale values are expected to be poor based on feedback from the dealer.

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  6 лет назад +2

      Did you not think the i30N handled better than a M140i?

    • @mrmarrow8918
      @mrmarrow8918 6 лет назад +1

      Hi - the roads where a little wet and icy cold when I test drive it so it's hard to say. Apart from the speed, for me it lacked 'magic' and for that reason I'd really struggle paying circa £30k for one - £20k maybe :) Out of interest I enquired about lease deals, and I was shocked with £500/month with £2k deposit - the dealer said the high monthly was a result of expected poor residuals he actually went as far as saying 'well it is a Hyundai'! How about testing a Honda Type R FK8 next?

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  6 лет назад

      Fair enough. Did you drive the Honda?

    • @RotrexfezST
      @RotrexfezST 6 лет назад +4

      Mr Marrow I’ve got a pcp price 3k deposit £330 a month brand new high spec car that will be a far better spec then a 140i at that price with a 5 year warranty.ive got an M3 as well and 140i’s are Great cars but 100% lack magic,drive an M car then drive these watered down M lites they just ain’t the same.the Hyundai handles as good as a Mégane has a spec list most 140i owners dream off and some dealers are doing them with a winter pack 26k.

    • @mrmarrow8918
      @mrmarrow8918 6 лет назад

      Hi - well that's a better deal than I was quoted back in January. Your deal of around £5460/year (£455/month) - which includes your deposit - still seems quite expensive? You mentioned 'spec' - most are frivolous, I mean who needs reversing camera and heated steering wheel... it's hardly pure driving? Just focusing on the engines... the 140i's 3 litre straight six is a peach. Anyway, it's horses for courses.

  • @batmikipig

      I think it depends on where you live. This car is around 54k but the civic type r is like almost 70k in NZD. I think Czech might have the lowest price since it was made there.

      Good question. Really hard to choose. The i30N has better gadgets and better mpg. The M3 was a more expensive car new so the pedigree shows through. Hard choice but I’ll choose the M3. If the i30N had a softer suspension setting for cruising it’d probably win though.

    Too fat, too heavy period. Weight is the enemy of performance and fuel consumption. Fail!

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  6 лет назад

      Not that heavy by today’s standards. Which new hatch is lighter?

    • @jamescortez504
      @jamescortez504 6 лет назад

      Golf Gti is lighter by about 200- 220 lbs and that is a lot. Peugeot 308 Gti 270 PS (Hp?) version is about 450 - 500 lbs lighter. Even heavier than the WRX which has four wheel drive or All Wheel drive. There is a reason why Gordon Murray is so obsessed about building lightweight cars. So the conclusion is: it is substantially heavier than its main rivals and it will affect either performance or fuel consumption or both combined. NOt good enough Hyundai.

    • @ChrisCorbettFPV
      @ChrisCorbettFPV 6 лет назад +1

      Both are great cars but both cost more and have less gadgets as standard so that doesn't make the i30n expensive. Looks are down to personal taste I find the cupra too boring and the i30n is nowhere near the level of OTT as the Type R is. It's understated but not boring.

  • @tonyb1223
    @tonyb1223 6 лет назад +1

    It looks like a very good effort from Hyundai but it then goes and over complicates matters with an insane amount of set up/driving menu's and 3 different driving modes.
    What is it witb these modern hot hatches? Keep things simple, 1 driving mode for eco, normal and if you want a sport mode, dont over do it.
    Only 1 of its competitors sticks with the keep it simple method and thats Peugeot's 308 GTi 270 and that hammers this in pretty much every driving scenario (handling, comfort, fuel economy and simplicity).
    The down side is the i30N will follow the 308 GTi 270 and end up being over looked because people will be buying a Golf GTi instead....

    • @theRealAV8r
      @theRealAV8r 6 лет назад +3

      I always find 'too much choice' a frankly silly criticism of this or any car. It's like saying a modern high end phone has 'too many settings' for someone _in the market_ for a high end phone..???
      Whatever happened to simply using what _you_ like and ignoring the rest, just as people do every day with all manner of technology?

    • @tonyb1223
      @tonyb1223 6 лет назад +2

      theRealAV8r the point being, why do you need all those settings in the first place when manufacturers like Peugeot give you a car that has pretty much none of them (just base suspension, not active), a mechanical LSD, a sport mode which does very little (no eco mode, thats throttle controlled), no chassis modes, the chassis is great as is and considering its 4 years older, still better in many respects than most modern hot hatches because they have just made it "right", get in start and drive, no need to mess around with settings, that is my point. You can say once you set it up its fine, but you shouldnt have to, running low on fuel? Oh switch to eco mode.... like wtf, just take your foot off the throttle, its over complicated a car that should be simplified, not vice versa.

    • @theRealAV8r
      @theRealAV8r 6 лет назад

      You do realize that by your logic the 308 is _highly_ complex in itself overall? A hot hatch is supposed to be an easy to use daily as well. It has myriad feature settings, some of them like basic climate controls buried in it's central screen/menu system.
      Why not just say you prefer the Peugeot and be done with it? Your argument about 'too much choice' is a non sequitur given how simple they are to access and use, or not.

    • @tonyb1223
      @tonyb1223 6 лет назад +2

      theRealAV8r i see you are not really understanding what I am saying here, cars like the 308 GTi 270 and the Megane RS 275 are simplistic, none complex cars, you just get in and drive them, no need to mess around with settings, it does everything out of the box, even now the Renault Sport Megane 275 is still a benchmark car that others aim to beat, and they no longer make it, no multi settings, just good old set ups that beat all this electronic crap they keep adding to cars that make you "think" they are better when really you dont need any of it. To prove a simple point, all but one of the reviews that put the 308 GTi against the i30N have had the 308 dominating, its not a complex car, its one that sticks to the basic concept of the hot hatch, KISS.

    • @theRealAV8r
      @theRealAV8r 6 лет назад +1

      Tony B Yes I do understand, but I'm saying your argument is nonsensical.
      What could possibly be simpler that ONE button to put the car in full hot hatch beast mode?
      And, you're conveniently ignoring mine, ie the sheer overcomplication of basic controls in the Peugeot.

  • @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi
    @Steve211Ucdhihifvshi 5 лет назад

    This is absolute garbage, I mean ok video but hyundai this is a piece of shit.
    I will admit i Like hyundai but, 0 to 60 in what a week? because thats not a hot hatch. It sounds like a massey Ferguson tractor and a bad driver.
    Electronic controled lsd means it just uses the abs system and brakes inderpendantly.
    But whats the point of a hot hatch if it takes that long from 0 to 60? This thing is competing against golf gti's renaults meganes rs265s, etc etc and this thing has the acceleration time of an old sedan.
    Also knowing hyundai as well as i do, you will have clutch problems, Electronic window mechs will break and half the door needs replacing, there will be some sort of electronic gremlins that no one knows how to fix as well. It wont happen overnight but it will happen.... eventually,

    • @ChrisCorbettFPV
      @ChrisCorbettFPV 6 лет назад +7

      The base 235i costs over £6.5k more than the i30n and it doesn't even come with an LSD so good luck getting that extra power down. By the time you've got all the options to compare it to the i30n you're talking £40k. On top of that It's not even a hatchback, so you're comparing apples to oranges. The m140i is a good comparison but it's still more expensive and the manual gearbox is gash so wasn't for me.
