      That doesn’t mean it is a software bug. They calibrate each model separately. Maybe the new s24 just doesn’t have more color saturation headroom to be calibrated as vividly in vivid mode as the s23. For the natural mode they can push saturation enough to compensate for the loss due to the anti reflective layer.

      @@manulovesjesusIf Samsung has stated that they're going to fix the issue, then it's definitely a software problem. I've seen it in person, and it was indeed dull-looking to me, even in the default Vivid mode. It's certainly something that wouldn't bother me, since I prefer the Natural look anyway, but it definitely can be more saturated when the software update fixes the display calibration.

S22u was gorgeous. My current s23u is basically a s22u but less curves and the colors pop even slightly more.

    • @nigel-uno
      @nigel-uno 10 месяцев назад +3

      This is not true. True monitor and TV enthusiasts recognize matte screens have lower color vibrance. See the recent OLED LG panels. The TVs have more vibrance because they're glossy. The monitors look gray when off even though it's OLED. There is even testing using the same LG OLED panel with matte vs glossy that show glossy had higher vibrance. There is a bug but matte is inherently less vibrant than glossy.

    It's great to have good features on phones, but I've noticed a trend where manufacturers intentionally lower the specs and hardware so they have something to upgrade in the future. For example, my S9+ has WQHD+ resolution since its release, and the screen is phenomenal. However, when I upgraded, only the Ultra models had WQHD+. So in a sense my old phone has better screen than my new upgraded flagship device from Samsung.
    What I'm trying to say is, hopefully, they keep the antireflective coating and other improvements and don't downgrade it in the next lineup. It's such dk move!

      @@MatthewMoniz did that little curve really bothered you? Cause i have another problem. And i think my problem is the samsung keyboard. I dont think the curved screen is a problem for me, but when i type fast, i mistype quite often. And i probably count too much on the correction system, but it really is annoying that samsung keyboard is not very good at detecting errors. Okay, for english, we're lucky we have grammarly that is implemented for a couple of years in samsung keyboard. And still, sometimes when i type it inputs all the wrong letters so that even grammarly doesnt recognize the word and i have to correct it manually. But because im also using spanish, german, french and russian keyboards, and grammarly doesnt exist for those languages. I, and probably half of the world population, find myself in a situation where the keyboard is just very bad at correcting mistakes. And like... My fingers are not that big, but wrong letter input bugs me for years already and idk what to do. And Gboard is not that good integrated to the samsung ecosystem. And certain features there are either not available or worse than samsung keyboard. For example i enabled keyboard/key color effect when i tap letters. Its only available for samsung keyboard. I honestly would rather prefer a better detection tool for taps or some ai improvements for different languages. Curved screen never really bothered me.

    I use Matte Protector on my Phone, on new Laptop is already matte. Maybe I feel like it's worse that Gloss, but it does reduce reflection 😅

    LOL, saturation can be boosted on any screen, this isnt a hardware issue, it's simply a more accurate colour profile which can easily be changed if there are calls for it.

      @MatthewMoniz  11 месяцев назад +8

      you can boost saturation on both phones to max the s23 ultra will always look more vibrant. They're using a different material on the s24 ultra which reduces reflections. Same idea as buying a matte display but not as aggressive

      I presume that having colour calibrated output is more important than oversaturated colours. Thus, the display should be tested with sRGB or DCI-P3 calibrated colour space.

      @@MatthewMoniz I mean you haven't tested that though so you're just theorizing. All you did is selected the "vibrant" setting. That's not doing what jfx is saying.

    • @MatthewMoniz
      @MatthewMoniz  11 месяцев назад +5

      Of course I've tested it. The S23 Ultra will always look more vibrant. You can see it especially in the reds and yellows. Anytime you reduce reflections you reduce the vibrancy of the display. Think of Apple's Pro XDR display. There's a NANO coated version which kills reflections and one without. They both have the same screen brightness but the one without the nano coating will always look more vibrant. @@theNimboo

      @MatthewMoniz Sorry, what I'm trying to say is that they could easily boost the saturation to match the S23 just by changing the colour profile if they wanted to even if the new screen hardware naturally desaturates the screen. This tells me that they preferred to go for a more colour accurate display similar to that of a colour-critical monitor (iphones also lean this way).

    Vibrant display is not good for eye because the ray comes out directly so it's not just anti reflection but also. Divided right ratio of light ray

    No it's not the anti reflection it's a software bug

    There wasn't a single Samsung flagship I used in last 6-7 years that didn't have a lot of "yeah, it's good, but...". Compromises year after yeae. Releasing half baked devices that aren't as polished as they should be (I guess they will "fix" this colour thing with S25 series) should not be acceptable in this price range.

      Because it doesn't have that matte coating and it has more ppi in fact. And that's the one I'm getting. Pretty sure some people are going to be disappointed if they just pre ordered without watching reviews.
