      But poise damage is absolutely dog water, I’m lvl 345 and used all the right talismans for the build and it still doesn’t compare to many of the other dlc weapons like star lined sword or anvil hammer, they’re not even as good as the backhand blades and those things are just decent compared to a lot of the weapons in the game. Yes they do good damage but nothing phenomenal and they’re one of the worst weapons for boss fights

      @@Trevor.Dionnemassively disagree.
      The light greatsword class has a unique feature where the light and heavy attacks combo fluidly into one and other without pause, meaning you can make unique combos with alternating presses. This goes double for these dual swords and allows you to not only vary up your combo string, but also control how much poise damage you want to inflict during a combo, allowing you to much more quickly disengage into a dodge and then head right back in with the tracking thrusts of the light attacks these weapons have. People underestimate the movesets of these weapons, ESPECIALLY these dual ones, because they do not realise that this unique feature exists on them.
      What I will say is, the first two weapons you mentioned as alternatives are an entirely different playstyle to this weapon and are basically meant AS poise breakers. If you are playing specifically for poise breaking, I have absolutely no idea why you would even consider these swords to begin with, as they are clearly shown to be split-scaling, high level DPS weapons. By that I mean, they are on full effect with more split stat investment than most weapons, (similar to sword of night and flame in the base game), making them most viable for say: 150 builds. This is to be expected at late game of course, as most of us entered the DLC at 150, per advice from the community at large. But yeah, if you were looking for poise breakers, you made a mistake going to a light greatsword to begin with, but it doesn't make them less viable for bosses, just an entirely different playstyle that can't rely on things like jump attacks or heavy charged attacks to destroy bosses.

      @@Trevor.Dionnelevel 345? Shoof

  • @Genasidal
    @Genasidal 2 месяца назад +131

    You have to keep in mind: most players will be entering the DLC on 120-150 builds, meaning they probably already have quite the optimised stat spread across the board.
    With his being said, these sword become INFINITELY more viable at higher levels, where players can spread their stats more evenly, and remember, with such a versatile weapon, you have options on how you wish to best use them too.
    If you just want them primarily for the dual sword purposes, Str/Dex scaling is your most important. Just leave your Faith and Int on around 25 and your Str and Dex much higher on 40-50 and you'll be grand. But if you want to utilise the Ash of War more? You can either spec into faith (55 softcap) for the flame spin heavy attack, or int (55 softcap) for the five combo beam attack.
    Speaking on the magic beam attack combo, I also haven't heard people mention this and I think it's incredibly important to know: the move is performed via 3 individual inputs for the first two hits, then the second set of two, then the final hit, meaning you can make the combo as long as you want if you need to dodge. HOWEVER, the flame spin does NOT have this same leeway. The flame spin is a fully commital move, that will perform all 3 spins in a single button press, so keep this in mind. If the enemy is not staggered by each hit of the flames, you're almost guarenteed to get hit! Another useful tip for the flames however? They actually can reach around walls, so you can use it whilst getting away around a corner to clip a pursuing enemy with relative saftey. They also extend quite far above your head, meaning enemies trying to drop on you from nearby rocks will also get hit without being able to retaliate. Many say the flames are not viable for pvp because of the commital nature of the movement, but these two facts alone make the flames a brilliant defensive mixup option if you have the environment to accomodate it. Or, even in pvp, you can use them with enough distance to catch an enemy in pursuit off guard if they're getting thirsty, though, in open environments like the arenas, this may not be as viable, so keep this in mind!
    I hope all of this helps those of you considering to pick up this weapon.
    REMEMBER: it scales better with Strength and Dexterity than it does with Intelligence or Faith, BUT, the Ash of War is entirely dependent on the other two stats, so if you want a dependable Ash of War, I would level them slightly. Hitting the softcap on both will increase Ash damage by roughly 30%, whilst hitting the softcap on strength and dex will only increase the overall AR by roughly 10%. Use the Millicent Prosthesis and Valkyrie Insiginia instead to get some major damage boosts if you are planning on fully utilising the Ash of War and consider stamina regen items also like the talisman or mixed physick flask to maximise aggression with this weapon, as both Ash variants absolutely eat through stamina, as does a full combo from this weapon itself!!!

      Lil tip for you!: if you set the time of day to nighttime in the DLC, there are locations with those lil ephemeral gravestones that are enveloped in a aqua blue light, only at nighttime specifically. Go examine these circles of graves and youll find a larval tear in the middle! The description of these larval tears and designs are different to the base game ones, but functionally, they are the same!
      This should help any player struggling for deciding their build.
      So far, I've discovered 4 of these myself, but I'm aware there are FAR more in the DLC and if you explore the DLC at nighttime more often than day time, you'll run into these more often than I did!
      As a side note: I haven't found any nighttime exclusive bosses yet... Wonder if there is any in the DLC...

    Playing as a Faith/Int build and using these with the surprise that they even existed; I legit thought that they weren't going to make a new Faith/Int weapon and that I was only building the character to play with the new sorceries and incantations. It is a very pleasant surprise though.
    I absolutely adore them, and although I'm not far into the game, with blessing lvl 9 + Rellana's Cameo (I haven't tested it w/ my physick) I'm outputting ~4k damage with the light attack version of the weapon skill (My build is 42 Int, 46 Faith). The attacks chains are amazing and overall the weapon feels more reliable in actual melee combat compared to SoNaF. My only real problem is just how absurdly stamina intensive it is. I decided to just overlevel and raised my endurance to 37 so I can use the Solitude armor, and even then the full weapon skill light attack chain drops my stamina to around 15% of my full bar, and when dual wielding I have to cautiously pace myself to avoid running out of stam and leaving myself unable to dodge.

    • @Genasidal
      @Genasidal 2 месяца назад +1

      Defo run some stamina regen with these! There's a new two headed turtle talisman, that's a buffed version of the old one (10/s as opposed to 8/s)! Also, there's a new physick tear I believe one of those big wickerman furnace guys drop that will also be amazing to you for these weapons, which buffs stamina regen by an additional 15/s and stacks with both the talisman and the turtle shield (3/s on the shield, so not much lol.)
      EDIT: the phyisck lasts 3 minutes also, which should carry you handily through most boss encounters, whilst still being able to keep up aggression. Would also recommend running some HP siphoning stuff like the talisman and Malenia's RECENTLY BUFFED (like, massively buffed) great rune to be able to keep on the aggression whilst managing that stamina! All this combined makes for an absolute monster of a weapon that's almost akin to Bloodborne in how much aggression you can apply to bosses! I promise you, you'll have so much fun with all of this combined!

      Around walls, that fire attack is absolutely amazing too, since it can creep around them. Also, it hits quite high above the player's head, meaning if you're fighting on multiple elevations and drop down below your opponent, you can catch them on their drop down with the Ash super easily!

      @@Genasidal magic attack is imo not stronger. More annoying, sure, but actually easier to dodge due to longer windup and no mixup timings between beams.

    • @Genasidal
      @Genasidal 2 месяца назад +1

      Like I say, with the fire attack, you're in a commital animation, which is really important to note. Once you're in it, you're stuck in it until it's done, with NO armour on top of that too!
      So my favourite places to use the fire attack is around corners or when an enemy is above my head directly, because both can still hit enemies with relative saftey. It's a great tool, but From have went to great lengths to make sure spamming it is super risky. The fire move also has good stagger potential on smaller enemies too, which is always important, bc it does mean you can round up groups of them and stagger them to death. The Black Knights of Messmer are a great example of an enemy absolutely cheesed by the fire attack.
      My favourite combo on those guys is to fire attack then immediately into the magic beam. My build is INT STR mainly, with around 30 FTH also. So my magic attack does far more damage and is brilliant to just quickly wipe out an enemy like that on around half HP.
      I also tend to open fights with the first 2 hit part of the blade beam combo, since it's 3 individual inputs. Those first 2 come out relatively fast.
      I will say though, it's a good thing From didn't give it Moonveil tier range... That blade beam would be an absolute menace if it had Moonveil range, especially on PVP

    For lvl150, it’s decent, definitely less stat spread options tho. if you wanna keep decent AR (806 atm) you have to focus str/dex with minimum fth/int requirement. Then the rest into your HP/FP/STAMINA. I use Flame Grant me Strength as my buff. the moveset has great single/2h combos, and the stance moves are good mix ups. you can catch people on their way in with the fire aoe, and connecting with the sword during the magic attack is the biggest damage you can get. Shard of Alexander is a MUST have. You can also use Magic/Fire Scorpions to max out your damage at the cost of defense. Overall it can be super good but probably not the BEST for a lvl 150 pvp. I still like it tho and probably gonna continue playing thru DLC with it since I already did a respec for the build. It doesn’t hit as hard as my old build, (INT/STR Darkmoon GS/Helphen’s Steeple) but the moveset and stance make it way more fun to play even if a little harder.

    The funniest part about the weapon in is that it’s not worth running with Rellanas Cameo. The magic ash of war is good because the first 2 hits come out really fast and let you roll cancel super early (not applicable to later hits tho) letting you punish fast bosses even if you’re a bit too far away, and the fire version is a great “get off me” tool for weaker enemies, though it can also rack up damage if an enemy has a long riposte state duration. Both of these scenarios require quick activation of the ash of war meaning Rellana’s cameo hurts more often than it helps if you’re trying to wait for the damage boost to kick in. (Currently fighting the final dlc boss with them which is a slog but I’m too stubborn to back down)

    Yeah i recently made a build with these. Okay damage but funny to say enough. The range attack is more better up close then being distant for a max of 1.4k DPS (don’t remember exact numbers) or sum like that with ok build. While up close it counts as two hits. I would say these are more fun in PvP tho against players who aren’t as knowledgeable for the attacks. Other than that. Weapon is like low B- or High C+ for me at least. Beautiful creation tho 😂

    I've been using these weapons and they're completely broken. Granted I was lvl 170 when entering the DLC and am now around 210, but as long as you spread your stats correctly these weapons can deal stupidly high dps. Since the ash of war is split between magic and fire, it has the same issue as the Sword of Night and Flame. The magic part only scales with Int and the fire only scales with faith. So between Int and faith, you only want to pump the stat that corresponds with the attack you want to use. Also, these weapons pair so well with rotten wing sword insignia and the thorny cracked tear because their moveset is insanely fast.

    What is your opinion on Romina’s Poleblade of the Bud?
    It looks so cool in my opinion and is a halberd and I love the move set and want to make a build out of it.
    Only drawback I’m seeing here though is that it is a scarlet rot inflicting weapon. Which in of itself doesn’t sound terrible to me, what does it that inflicts only 55.
    My question here is simple, is this a weapon I could successfully make a strong build around?

    Most weapons are split scaling. Quality physical or quality mag. I haven't found any yet that don't wreck most. Great Katana with storm blade aow bleed. Wrecks everything. I dont see anyone talking about it. I killed Bayle first try spamming the aow. The bleed kept procing and skipped his 2nd phase while he fell for a critical. No critical instead keep spamming aow and in like 20 to 30 seconds he was dead. The aow allows you to atk quicker then a L1 atk. Its crazy they allow that aow on that weapon.

    I think light greatswords need a buff. I’ve been playing with the new dlc weapons and that weapon class feels the weakest in spite of having amazing style. The biggest problem is not the damage, though. I’m tearing off 2k-6k damage on combos with Twin blades, but that’s only when I can get the combos off. The biggest problem is they don’t stagger anything, even after 3-6 hits, enemies can still poise through the attacks, and if the enemy has a great shield, good luck. I think they need to buff stagger damage, then these will feel a lot better to use.
    The weapon art for RTB is simultaneously amazing and disappointing. The projectiles on the r1 weapon art are way too short ranged for how little you are able to stagger enemies. If they had higher stagger potential, or could reach out farther like dark moon GS, it would be good. The fire aoe is a life saver. It is the only way to stagger enemies with some reliability, and can deal with crowds quickly, and the fire plumes actually can stagger enemies too. It’s a very mixed bag.
    Another thing they should change about RTB is the offhand attack. I don’t know they thought I would want to hit with the offhand weapon instead of having the option to block. That was not a good decision imo.

    If you're willing to commit to the build, these things absolutely rip. The split scaling is pretty brutal, to be sure. If you're not trying to overlevel, there are way better options. But if you're in it for the Fashion Souls and just want to use what's easily the most stylish weapon in the DLC, it's worth the investment. I don't like them as much against bosses, but if I need to clear out a bunch of enemies in a hurry, they're an excellent tool for the job.

    The split damage only applies to there respective sword. Magic for the right, fire on the left. The AoW is buffed by both the Shard of Alexander and the new stance talisman. Build wise, I would just put the minimum into faith and intelligence and the rest into dexterity.

    I have done extensive testing with these weapons and want to love them, but... Light greatswords are exceptionally good consecutive attack weapons (bonus: they do very good poise dmg too). But, given the split scaling, you are better off powerstancing 2x Milady in ng+ in anyway (cold, blood etc). That makes only the AoW unique for this weapon. But, again, given the split scaling, and that the AoW does not scale that well with respective stats (int/faith), you are simply better off using more powerful AoW that are higher dmg and more practically applicable to boss fights (e.g. Flaming Spear/ Carian Sovereignty) (Some numbers in reply)

    • @TheQ2356
      @TheQ2356 Месяц назад

      AoW magic dmg tests (it does more dmg if you also hit with the sword in melee):
      All tests in base game areas with magic tear and cracked tear and only alexanders for talisman .
      - 52 str 24 dex 16 int:
      --4377 dmg (melee) -- 2943 (ranged)
      - 13 str 16 dex 80 int:
      -- 5678 (melee) -- 4363 (range)
      >>>> no INT vs full INT you only get 1400 dmg increase on AoW done at range?
      Something is wrong here and maybe even the AoE dmg has 'C scaling', where it should work like other AoWs that scale off stats alone and not the scaling (e.g. death's poker)
      By contrast, carian sovereignty will easily do 6k+ dmg, has greater parody of talismans with spells (godfrey), takes about the same time, consumes equal if not less FP, requires less stamina and does more poise dmg.

    It's not worth it. I did a complete rebuild for these with pretty high stats, they're relatively weak and they almost never break stance. Weak against high poise enemies, which in the DLC, all of the enemies have high poise.
