I gotta say... I clearly hear a difference when switching through the modes. Each of them are shifting freq ranges. The aggression sounds like it is switching from a higher mid range to a lower midrange emphasis. The fat sounds like it is refocusing the low end, and bringing out more low mid. And as you said, the cut is pushing the mids to help the tone cut.

I have 2 revvs. I have this same mkiii 100p, and I have an old 1st gen generator 100, and love both! The 100p was a dream come true amp for me! I’ve never had an issue, revv guys are awesome about taking care of customers. The green channel on the new one is one of the best features. Cause the old green channel was just a hot clean. The new green is its own distortion channel. I love it. Not sure if yours has a issue but I can tell on all of my switches, not subtle at all. Each one does a lot for the tone. But maybe stand back instead of right up on it. But man, I’m kinda shocked you don’t like the clean and green channel. Like that blows my mind lol!!! Now I use overdrive with my revvs and it’s been my dream tone. I don’t play any of my other amps now. Revv has ruined all amps for me lol!!! But some people are different. And hear differently. My old revv foot pedal is crazy heavy!!! And thick I like the new one being light for my pedal board. And the bottom they made smooth for Velcro. U can program the amp to have the gate on what channel u want. It took time for me to figure out the amp, but my revv has been just perfect. I love everything about it. Especially since I own an old one too, and how much more u get from the old ones.

Hey, thanks for your comment. It's true everyone hears differently. I'm glad it works for you. I still think it was a good sounding amp, but it just didn't blow me away for the price. But again, it depends on how you intend to use it and what you're looking for. Cheers!

@@aaronarandac4 ya. Everyone likes a certain tone too. Guys that are Mesa rectifier fans prob wouldn’t like the 100p they’d maybe like the 100r but ya man. My amp did blow me away. So much that I got 2 lol!!! Of course the old one was much cheaper. But maybe check out the old one. It’s totally different than the new. More in line with a 5150 kinda. But that’s the one I play live with. But I play 7 string stuff so having the revv boosted in the front, it just sounds perfect to me. But ya man good luck!

@@ericsmith6633 yup as a fan of the Mesa Rectifier sound heck most of my favorite bands like Rammstein used them on their best albums the cutting sound of the Mesa Rectifier is what I want. But I dislike having to use a ton of EQ and boost pedals on Mesa amps. MI Amplication and KSR are better versions of the Rectifier sound. ENGL amps sound way better too than Revv amps for less money.

I've been using the Revv models on my FM3 and loving them. It's the green, purple, and red channels of the 120, which should be the same as the channels on the 100P and 100R amps. With my Strandberg NX 8 I've been keeping the EQ all at noon and loving all the channel options. I've found myself loving the red aggression more than I expected for all three channels. I just wish I had the clean too.

I bought this amp aswell and we’ll I love all the features it has and the build quality I found the crunch channel almost unusable (so much brighter and fuzzy sounding compared to the other channels). The purple channel was good but to get useable tones I had to max out the presence knob which is limiting. Ended up selling it. Great video btw

I also felt like it was missing some high end sizzle, which did lead to me boosting the treble and presence. Thanks for the comment!

I almost bought the generator 120 mkiii a couple of weeks ago, but i decided to get the prs mt15 head and a mesa boogie 2x12 cab instead... for half the cost. the mt15 is loud af, and has a mean tone.
i like the revv amps, but i think if i'm going to spend that much, maybe i'll get a marshall or soldano or diezel.
my band also plays bars, skate parks, small venues... and i'm not about to take a $3-5k amp to one of those shows when i have a bugera that works just fine.
i think it's fun to buy new gear, check out different sounds, and keep learning/experiencing new things. thanks for the video!

@@aaronarandac4 the Diezel VHX and Diezel Herbert are on my dream amp wish list as well as a Wizard amp to try before buy. I really like ENGL amps a lot and want to sell my Ironball and get either an ENGL Fireball, Smolski or Powerball amp. Less cost than Revv and better cutting sound and better clean channels too.

Good video. Agree 100%, depends on your needs! I think this amp could be a workhorse if you're willing to bring it to gigs and also use it for recording etc. But, if you're just going to compare high gain tones through your DAW/computer, etc - there is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to cost. Just like you hear subtle changes in the room when using the aggression/cut modes, the changes are also subtle with using different amp sims over the computer. Chugga chugga sounds really close from one to the next and there ain't gonna be anything revolutionary from one amp or sim to the next IMO.
But, in the room, you honestly do make the REVV sound good. Subtle differences that you feel and hear live are often what inspire us when playing live and are often the best reason to bring the amp out into the wild. My guess is the REVV tones are better than your Bugera (but there is no comparison in this particular video). I can def see things from your perspective though... If it's too expensive to lug to the gigs, forgetaboutit!. Send it back.
    Rock on man!

@@spottswoode8122thanks for your comment! i think overall the revv probably did sound better than the bugera, but mostly just different. The high gain was clearer and had better note definition, but that almost made it feel steril. The bugera has a lot more of a top end fizz that was still desirable to me. There was no way to get that out of the revv it just didnt have it. And i'm not going for boss metalzone fizz tones lol, but it kinda felt like i needed a bit more chaos and treble in the revv. The bugera definitely doesnt do it all, but it did show me something that the revv couldnt do. And for the price and all the bells a whistles I felt the revv shoulda been able to do more. It was the purple channel version tho and i do think it was accurately described. Perhaps the red channel revv woulda've been more of what i was missing, but i wasnt super convinced from other reviews and my experience of how subtle all the agressions were. But now I really want to get a soldano astro, i played one at a guitar center and it sounded AWESOME. The tone search continues...

Subbed you are a really good player and great honest review. I agree now software and hardware plugins and modelers have come a long ways. Tube amps will probably go away in the future. Look at huge metal bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden they use modelers live now.

@@GuitarsAndSynths thanks man i appreciate it! I still enjoy tube amps, but modern amenities of modelers are quite attractive as well. And when you get down to spending thousands of dollars you start wondering where do you get the most bang for the buck? Most of what i do now is studio stuff anyways so things like plugins that dont takenup physical space is handy too. Just depends on what tools you wanna use for what job i guess.

My generator 120 mk3 sounds killer. It’s weird that your tone wouldn’t change when switching through the amp. I will say the generator is steered towards metal but I do get nice cleans on my telecaster. I run an mxr 10 band eq through the fx loop, slightly remove some unwanted frequencies. I also use the noise gate fairly open. Revv🤘🏼

Man it genuinely sounds like there is something wrong with that crunch channel, Ive watched a lot of reviews on this amp and been in store with a mate when he was testing and the voicings definitely made a difference, here its like nothing at all. If youre looking for another high end amp with multiple voicings, midi capability and great sound id suggest the Mesa Triple Crown. You wont get torpedo built in, but I think it would tick all the boxes youre after.

Sad to hear this as the one I tried was super awesome. I think it is way overpriced though since the ENGL FIreball is better amp for way less money even if lacking some of the cab IR features. I wish ENGL would make an amp to compete with Revv. Honestly the new hardware amp modelers like Fractal and Kemper are just as good if you run them through a good FRFR powered cabinet or small power amp and they take up way less space and less maintenance.

thanks for not bring a lame close mic blues fest. Im looking for something affordable that sounds great for dumb powerchord chugin and maby some boomer bends that my son wont mute with a 22"holy china rimshoting blast beats, but also have a low volume mode for night practice, I'm not going on tour or recording any albums, also if i'm building my own cab is 2 seperate 2x12s going to be as good as 1 4x12? I like djent type tones and mt guitars are 8 and 7 strings

    • @aaronarandac4
      @aaronarandac4  5 месяцев назад

Hello! I do feel this amp is good for 7 and 8 string guitars. keeps them tight and punchy. in regards to 2 2x12s vs 1 4x12 it depends on what you want. Some advantages with the 2x12s may be portability, and you can spread your sound out to both sides of a room/stage by putting one cab on the left side and the other on the right. And you could just take one 2x12 cab somewhere if you need a smaller set up. You can get comparable volumes to a 4x12 as well. Biggest advantage of a 4x12 to be honest is having the speakers stand taller so it's closer to your ears if you stand and play. But of course you can stack the 2x12s or put them on their side. I'd say biggest thing to consider is what size you're willing to move around and work with/ have space for.
