My bias is Park Jimin. The guy in ripped jeans who impressed you with his fluid dance move☺ Can you react to his 2 solo songs Serendipity and Lie, the live performance of lie at the wings tour at seoul is a good choice, and his serendipity on their recent tour at the Wembley/Chicago or LA. Both songs have mind blowing choreography. Serendipity was actually choreographed by the great American choregrapher Brian Puspos.

JIMIN, the one you keep commenting on, early teens studied, performed, & competed in hip hop, popping, & street dancing. He then went on to study & perform contemporary, also some ballet, and even Korean traditional dance. Jimin also, since a quite young age, for 8 years, trained in various forms of martial arts, including Taekwondo, which he has a blackbelt in, as well as Kumdo (Korean form of Kendo). Jimin has somehow been able to incorporate all these different disciplines, different forms of dance, as well as his martial arts training, which I believe gives him that amazing inner core strength to be able to do all those gravity defying moves, like in Serendipity, into his unique so amazing dancing abilities.

Just one correction fam, he studied kendo. Kumdo was derived from kendo, they're mostly similar but they still have a bit of difference like etiquette, movement emphasis, etc. Also Jimin specifically mentioned before that he studied kendo not kumdo.

    • @ctothemean
      @ctothemean 5 лет назад +53

Lol, I have danced... a long time, so I can answer that. Plus, I was a choreographer/instructor, and had a lot of the same reactions, lol. While all the boys are great dancers (YES, I said, "ALL" of them), Jimin has a fluidity that is distinctive in how he flows from step to step. In Contemporary, for the most part, emphasis is usually placed on how one movement ebbs and flows into the next and the next and making it LOOK effortless and full of feeling. Think 'Spring Day' choreo, or Jimin dancing solo to 'Butterfly' in the Puma Bogsock commercial. Once you know what to look for... 😁

Jimin's charisma and mind blowing dance moves always snatching wigs for so many times, he have trended for several times when they performed in US for his eye catching stage presence, and the very recent was on their performance at the BBMA. The guy with the ripped jeans is Jimin. He is indeed a trained dancer. He learned hip hop dance in middle school, then learned modern dance when he was preparing to enter Busan High School of Art in Korea, which he later came out as a top student out of his entire class. Then he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment (BTS' agency) which he passed and he trained there for almost a year before debuting as a member of BTS. Transitioning from hip hop to modern dance then back to hip hop is so difficult yet he managed to do it and merged it. When I first knew BTS back in 2016, he was the one I was drawn into. He is so aesthetically pleasing to watch.

His teacher only helped him persuaded his Dad to let him pursue his career in arts. His Dad originally wanted him to be a government official. Her teacher also send him to different competitions. But it wasn't mentioned that her teacher paid for his tuition fees. What's true is Jimin was the only student who have received a scholarship training in China.

Actually it was when Jimin was going to the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan, that he attended since quite young barely teens, studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition even against his own teachers) in hip hop, popping, & street dancing where an instructor was so impressed with him that when Jimin at a certain point had trouble being able to afford the high tuition fee that he waived the fee especially for Jimin! He was already put in front, when performing on stage at quite a young age already! This was before going to the Busan High School of the Arts where he was given top honor of being top dancer as soon as he started attending. He also received continuously top honors for academic studies as well, Math & science being his best subjects but usually getting pretty much perfect scores in everything. That is the main reason his father first objected to Jimin being an artist, until a teacher talked to his father telling him that Jimin would most definitely be a huge success as an artist!
The scholarship offer Jimin received was to go to China to study martial arts more extensively because he was that good. Jimin already trained since he was a little boy in various forms of martial arts for 8 years including Taekwondo, which he has a blackbelt in, as well as Kumdo (Korean form of kendo). He did have an offer though, to dance overseas, but decided, because he wanted to be a vocalist as well, to go to Seoul thanks to a teachers suggestion, to audition for BigHit Entertainment, the company BTS is signed with. Another dance teacher was disappointed though, saying that "the world of dance was losing a great artist"!!
All this info is from either his old teachers who were interviewed, fellow students from the same schools, or new students who now attend the academies where Jimin once went, who to this day, always ask about Jimin and then relay the info to everyone else. Also from an older female cousin, film footage, old photos. Since Jimin rarely talks about himself except for the rare occasion, is one of the reasons so many know the least about him. Plus the most popular BTS intro that everyone recommends is filled with misinformation, omissions, & inaccuracies!

Actually, a lot of the moves are based off of Korean traditional dances as well, specifically in the chorus (the song itself instrumentally and the MV are based on traditional Korean music/culture). Just a tidbit!
And Ripped Jeans Guy: Jimin. He actually studied modern/contemporary dance at a prestigious performing arts high school in his home town before joining BTS, then transferred to a different performing arts high school after he joined BTS. He entered the first high school top of his class and actually when he couldn't afford the class fees, his teachers said he didn't have to pay because he was THAT good and they didn't want him to leave. He actually did popping/hip-hop style when he was in the eighth grade, then made the shift to modern. While in BTS, he effortlessly merges the two together to execute BTS' choreography.

Your reaction was right on. This choro comes from African dance. Ripped Jeans is Jimin. Once you Jimin in you can't Jimin out. Did you notice their suits were different materials in African Patterns?

Jimin is the guy whose contemporary dance background, so he's good at putting emotion in his moves.

actually some of the dances you said are hip-hop, jazz and capoeira (I'm Brazilian 😂) are traditional Korean dances, Idol is known from bringing loads of elements from the Korean culture, including in the melodies of the song, lyrics, the music video and their dancing
please check out their practice for fake love 🙂

I got a greater appreciation for this song when I realised it’s full of Korean traditions, including that flying dance that is seen in a lot historic Korean dramas. I thought this was not just a statement of where they are but it honors the traditions of their country as well.

Actually, one of the moves, the one where they form a circle and do that kick in the air (7:11), is actually a traditional korean dance that they incorporated into their dance. This song is all about loving yourself for who you are, so they embraced a lot of their korean culture in the music video, song, and dance.
About the subtitles - fans can’t put CCs on videos unless they reupload them with the subtitles on and I’d imagine that would get taken down pretty quickly. Generally, people watch music videos before dance practices just because they’re more well-known, so they know what the song is about when they come to the dance practice.
Great video! Thanks for looking so much into it ^^

The one in the white jeans is J-Hope he is the dance leader in the group and the one in ripped jeans is Jimin. That both was dancers before they became BTS and Jimin was a modern dancer and the top student. And he is the most popular and charming in the group

Interesting thing about this song is that it came out after people were saying, 'Oh, they are trying to be more American.' It was almost like a response where they celebrated a million cultures, but the lyrics contain references specific to Korean history and they use some traditional Korean instruments. I highly recommend the performance from the MMA (awards) which made me cry, and I'm not Korean! lol

I loved the African inspiration in this choreo. I'm a dancer as well, took some classes here and there in African and also went to south Africa to perform/teach for a bit. The move they do in the chorus is called the gwada gwada. It was the biggest dance craze when I was in Cape Town in 2017.

    So,
1: All BTS mv’s have subtitles for them
2: Majority of the moves that you describe as hiphop or break are actually moves from traditional Korean dances.
Basically IDOL is their anthem of self love incorporating traditional korean elements while (if you watch the mv) also clapping back at the haters, critics, antifans, etc. for calling them “westernized”, not looking good at certain times, having them being looked down in for being idols, etc. The inclusion of the guara dance was also for them to reinforce the fact that music and performance transcends language and culture while celebrating the idea of self worth, acceptance, appreciation, love, etc.
