  • www.challengeta... Barret and I had much fun building this target stand. Our standard was to use as few tools and bought materials as possible. Most of the stand is made from scrap lumber. Even the 4" x 8" was a junk piece of timber I got from my heavy timber supplier. He said he had some he could not sell and gave it to me for $20 :)
    Thanks to Challenge Targets for asking us to make the video! They are a great bunch of guys.
    Part 2 will include the range trip and finalizing the reset function. I will also include links for the SketchUp file download.

    Attach a threaded rod to the resetting bar which hangs out horizontal behind the wood when its pulled up to reset the targets, that way you can put on some opposing counterweights which will pull the wood back down after a reset of the targets !!

    Good target stand, Artisan Tony. Both you and Barret did a good job. The most impressive part of the video was 'what was NOT shown.' Big Tony and Barret loading the 4" x 8" timber, with the targets on it, into the back of the big Ford truck. That's one heavy piece of the target stand.
    Next video, it would be interesting to see Barret ride the horse around the shop. The one with the wheel for the front legs. It looks like it would be a real hoot!!!

      ArtisanTony >Could have been!!! = Big Tony lifting the 4" X 8" timber and Barret, both at the same time. Barret would have his feet way off the ground, while still holding onto the timber. Plus, Barret could have sat on the horse earlier in the video and sang, "Yippy ti yi yo, get along little doggies. It's your misfortune and none of my own. Yippy ti yi yo, get along little doggies. You know that Wyoming will be your new home. "

    mount an upright board on the side with a pulley thats raised about 8" above the targets so when you pull on the string it has more leverage so you can easily reset the target

    good job guys , my suggestion is instead of the rope for the reset why not installing a spring behind the metal targets so they flip back when hit ? just a suggestion

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  3 года назад

      You can set the targets to do that, I just like seeing them go down :) We would have little competitions to see how fast we could knock them down Thanks!

    Very nice target setup but what did that end up costing once it was all said & done. You saved on the material but those plates are sold in packs of 3 at like $189

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  7 лет назад

      R Ochoa I had most of the material and challenge targets supplied the steel targets. You are right. It would have been a little pricey.

    How about a little wood glue

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  3 года назад

      I try not to depend on glue for anything. I try to make the mechanical connections work which server better through time.

    Cool setup, but wouldn’t it have been a lot easier to let the steel plates dangle from that horizontal beam?
    No reset necessary.

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  4 года назад

      The whole point of these targets is to hit them properly so they fall over. You can cheap plates if you want dangling targets.

  • @FOGHORNNC
    @FOGHORNNC 9 лет назад

    Great job!!... how heavy is it?

    • @ArtisanTony
      @ArtisanTony  9 лет назад

      FOGHORNNC I think the main beam with the steel is around 90 pounds and the two braces are not bad at all. Two people can easily carry it. Barret and I had no trouble loading it in the truck. The thing is, if it were any lighter you would pull it over when trying to reset the steel plates. It needs to be heavy to function properly. Thanks!

    • @romansten9
      @romansten9 8 лет назад

      +ArtisanTony Very nice design and video. As for weight, you'd think you could simply pound in some stakes to hold it! Thats what I did on a swing set. If you haul it around, stakes would be much lighter to carry.
