Was waiting for this video haha. Ordered a VHD as soon as they re opened preorders, and just snagged a fleshrot this morning. Great comparison video dude.
They all sound awesome but the Effigy is my favorite. Man, I love old school death metal. So lucky to have all this sick death metal to listen to as a young teen in the 90s. Effigy of the Forgotten is 32 years old!
I thought my favorite preamp was going to be the VHD but I liked the Fleshrot the most (the VHD was my second). I can't wait until I can buy the amp version of both of these pedals!
My favorite for nailing that 140c sound is the VHD, it's the most 1-1, but the Fleshrot v2 has more modern ideas blended into it so it's kind of like modern meets old school.
I finally got the VHD and my personal experience is that it is the best one I have tried so far. I don't have the effigy but the VHD is better than the misanthrope and even the Fleshrot v2 although I do love both of those pedals as well.
I have the misanthrope and the Fleshrot V2 and love them both although I prefer the Fleshrot. I plan to get the SNK since they are being made again and I might get he Effigy. It would be nice to have the similar but different tones in the same mix, I love laying down multiple guitar tracks with varying tones that mix well together.
I own the Misanthrope but am a little disappointed by the sound tbh. I can't reproduce that sound. Mine stays kinda wooly and boxy. Do you plug it into the front end or in the return? I also own the Martyr and the Marauder and very happy about those.
@@Nattewolf I use the effects loop and bypass the pre-amp and it sounds way better for all of my VH140C clone pedals. I just got the SNK VHD and so far it is the best sounding out of the 3 I have.
@@cizmar1972 thank you for the answer! I do the same with all that kind of disto/preamp pedal, right into the fx loop, bypassing the amp preamp. But for the Misanthrope, I can't get that old school death metal vibe that I love. So the SNK is your favorite ?
@@Nattewolf Yeah, I like them all but the SNK is the closest to an actual Ampeg VH140C which I used to have back in the early 90s....Biggest mistake was getting rid of it!
I own the VHD, use it as a pre amp and dont really turn the gain past 1 or 2 o'clock. I find it kind of noisy though, which pedal did you find the quietest?
Misanthrope and VHD sounded like a blanket was on top of it, The Airis sounded absolutely snarly and pissed off. Fleshrot V2 was kinda the middle of the road for me too many knobs 😂so for that personally I would take the Airis.
@@MetalHeadProductions I know it. But I don't get why all those bands had chosen the worse one of those two amps. VH140 is younger, maybe it was availability thing.
I was surprised by how much I loved the Fleshrot and the effigy as distortion pedals. Preamp was definitely between the VHD and the Fleshrot.
SNK VHD & Fleshrot V2 for the win, the others sounded like playing with a towel over the cabinet.

Great comparison video dude.
All pedals sound really cool but I'm partial to the fleshrot and this heavy earth. I love the dude so, that's an automatic 100 extra points :)
Whats up Jerome. Those modules for the SD1 and the DS1 are so awesome! Thanks again.
@@normanvename4404 no, thank YOU! :)

I have been looking forward to this video
Sound that reminds me of 90's horror metal shows and $600 American made custom shop strats.

I think the fleshrot and SNK are the best, since I prefer preamps for this kind of sound.

I have the og fleshrot and vhd. I really want to try the v2.
I had the ampeg vh140c I use a Eq on the effects loop and in front of the amp compressor Eq+boss Sd1and delay best bad ass metal tone

cool demonstration man!by the way how do you dial the low control in the back of the effigy one?
Take the back off and there is a pot you can adjust I believe
They all sounded great. Preamp all the way though. In to the clean channel sounds mushy
The SNK sounds the most like my VH140C but I really liked the Effigy and the Fleshrot too. I heard the Lich from Void Manufacturing is a beast too.
I second this as 140 owner myself i always found the snk to be closest soundung based on all the clips i heard
I don't demo anything from LWA/void manufacturing, personally. The VHD really does nail that sound, but all of them have something different to offer.
Fleshrot V2 all day long baby. All of these are great though!
They all have their uses for sure, and what's cool is they're all different so it just depends on what you want.
Yessss! God I've been waiting for this and thought maybe you weren't gonna do it. What about lich tho? Lwa lich.
lol I dont feature LWA on this channel
@@MetalHeadProductions oh yeah that's right lol, I literally remembered after I posted this. Don't feed or support the trolls. Good policy.
Have you looked into the GUP Tech VeJ1? I'm definitely interested in checking it out, especially when it's half the price of these.
Nah I haven't heard of it.
awesome!

Hmm, interesting, I don't find the vhd all that noisy. What power supply are you using?
I broke down and ordered the fresh rot today.

I agree with the misanthrope but not the VHD, personally.
VHD and Fleshrot were miles better than the others. I think personally I'd grab the fleshrot since it has more eq options than any of the others.
VHD is going to be the one that sounds most like the 140c and the Fleshrot is like a modern version. Just depends on what you want really.
Good vid dude! Can you check out the Guptech vh140c pedal sometime?
Possibly!
So much filth! SNK 🤘
The SNK sounded more like a proper record.
I don't get why the VH140 got the hype. SS150 circuit with pre gain bass and treble is far more superior.
It's what was used by a bunch of death metal bands and it has a very particular sound.
@@MetalHeadProductions I know it. But I don't get why all those bands had chosen the worse one of those two amps. VH140 is younger, maybe it was availability thing.
awwww no lich? how can you do without 6 modes of mid ultraviolence? (wink wink)
seriously though,i was doing some comparisons the other week and for a cheapy the TC fangs gets that gross early 90's tone like a boss!
I dont feature LWA on here, so yeah, wouldnt have the lich.
Fleshrot wins by a mile
