Those chiaogoo cords are a double-edge sword. They are amazing because they don't hold any memory and they are great for heavy projects like blankets. However, I don't like fighting that springiness when magic looping. I just picked up the chiaogoo mini cords, plus the converters for small to mini for my interchangeable set. They make a world of difference for magic loop. The mini cords are slightly smaller in diameter to hiyahiya blue cords.
Thank you!! That's a good idea! I've only been using the plaster *after* the hole has been made so far, I need to start using it as a preventative measure! ;) S x
That's a great review! l've bought mine after seeing this video, 'cause it helped me a lot! l've chosen Addi Click Lace interchangeable Needles and until now l know it was a very good choice. Pinky if you wanna knit in the round too knit socks with the magic loop you've too see if you're a loose knitter, then it's great because if not it might be a bit difficult too get your stitches over the little part where cable becomes the needle: l often have to use my fingertips to help my yarn to make it. That's not perfect for me but l can't hit more loose (because of a ladder l don't wanna have in my socks and other projects) and first l wanted to give up my "Addies". But l bought some needles 2,5mm, 3,0mm and 3,5mm who aren't interchangeable just for my socks and now there's no problem any more. The turbo - needles are perfect from Addi, the interchangeable aren't it for "loop - socks". For all my other projects Addi is the best to me. But: now l saw interchangeable needles who can twist the cable around, uuh, that's more than perfect but they are a lot more expensive: SIGNATURE is the name. Fantastic! You didn't show us interchangeables but you helped me to choose the right way. Knit pro's are as well, they ate a little tic smoother at the part where cable becomes a needle, but you need very good eyes to see the little, tiny hole to put your key in to make it sure not to get twisted off. And wherever you wanna change something you have to have the little key with you! That's not mine! Oh, no! For me it's better to work with my normal turbo needles so l have them, too, for projects who are to knit with very little numbers (the cases begin at 3,5mm). Only my 3,5mm ate in double because of my socks - needed - pair ;-) . l still love then after a year and l knit every day l can (l'm handicapped and so sometimes it isn't able for me to work with my hands so tiny movements). Some months ago l bought the Olivetree - needles, too and they ate so great you can't believe what a difference it can make! Some yarn like to run of the needle and then they're great, great, great! And with every hand problems (arthritic and others) it's fantastic even so when you're allergic. If you love to feel wood and bamboo isn't sharp enough for you it's THE choice! I often use them 'cause they're so smooth in hands and sharp and in summer it's better than to feel metallic needles who can get very hot! So let me say again: Thanks a lot for your great review! You told all the pros and the cons l had to know. Please excuse my mistakes l make writing in English! l'm from Germany and it's very seldom that l've to use this language since l was at school (32 years ago;-) ). Please go on with reviews, l'll watch them with a lovely heart!
I have not knit socks but I would like to Thank you for your reviews Sandra I am a very basic knitter but I enjoy it and it is relaxing I know knitting socks would push me out of my comfort zone The hand knit socks are so lovely
Very nice review.. I don't Knit socks, but I do Knit lots of charity hats... I use the little nine inch circulars fir my preemie and newborn hats, and the 16 inch circulars fir other sizes... I haven't found a Knitter's Pride orisuct that I result like... I prefer the ChsiGoo Red Lace needles.. They do an excellent job... I just ordered a couple of HiyaHiya Sharps to compare with my ChsiGoos... I'm looking forward to trying them... I thunk you would like ChaiGois, if you used them in another project... I definitely enjoy mine.. Thanks for a good video.. ...
Hello, whow do you find the Hiyahiyas? They're a bit pointier, aren't they? So I do like Chiaogoos, very much, but Ilove the Hiyahiyas. The etui is better from Chiaogoo, a lot better, but it depends on the needles. I think I buy the etui from Chiaogoo or I sew one on my own.
I have tried all except the zings and more....the chiaogoo are the only ones I have no issue with. I don't get snags or problems at the joins and I use #0 for socks. I like Hiya Hiya sharps as well but the cord tends to bend and cause the join area and makes it hard for the sock to move smooth over them. I have found tension plays a big part in the joins also. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for doing this comparison. I have the complete set of Chiaogoo needles and adore them. The more you use them the more flexible the cable becomes. I also have the hiyahiya sharps and like them as well. They do however make my finger sore. I have been wondering about the addi sock needles and I thank you for your review. I'm going to order them.
This is a very helpful review. I have knit socks on wooden needles but didn't like how they turned out. I'm looking to not just go down on the needle size, but also metal (aluminum or steel) because I really want to enjoy knitting socks. Again, Thanks for making this review.
I agree about magic loop and chi goo metal cable not the best. My 2 cents on an another disappointing cable is the Signature sock needles. The cable has a strong memory and does not relax... as the Signature needles are the most expensive and the least enjoyable to use, I thought I’d mention it. The cable is stiff, tightly curved and won’t relax - not the best for magic loop sock knitting - the needle tips are fine.
Peepers 47 oh that’s really interesting about the Signature needles. I’ve never tried them but I must say, the cable sounds like a bit of a deal breaker for me ☺️. Good to know though. ❤️
I like my HiyaHiya needles. The Chiaogoo needles I have really do seem to have thick and not very flexible cables. I have not tried the others. I like your review and comparison, very helpful.
Hello. I knit fingering weight socks and have not found a needle that works for me. The stitches all get caught up on the join. If you know a brand that does not do this. I am literally throwing money away on needles. Pls help me if u can
Hi from littlekniteve. I love all your sock s you do. I cannot do the heel. Can you help me please. I would love to make sock. It is the dc that get me. And putting half the stitch on the needle. I got down to the heel and lost it. It was so upsetting, I have looked at video put I need more help. Thank you 😊
Hi, thanks so much! Knitting socks is awesome it has to be said, so a great one to try and master. I'm not quite following exactly where you are having problems I'm not sure what you mean by the 'dc' or the 'half stitch' I'm afraid but if it's of any help, I have a 'My First Socks' knitting pattern which has help for beginners and there are also lots of free patterns out there. Winwick Mum is great for example. :) S x
Lovely review. I tend to use DPNs for sock knitting, but I'm now tempted to use magic loop, or at least give it a go. What length would you suggest I buy. I too love the HIYA HIYA sharps.
Thanks so much Christine Ballard personally I like a 80cm (32") length. A 100cm (40") flaps around too much and the 60cm (24") is a bit too snug for the gusset stitches. ❤️ Good luck!
Thanks Sandra, a big help. I plan on buy a few more and with so many choices what's a girl to do?! BTW I love your Ikea cart liners must do some for mine now.lol
Exactly. It's a dangerous game, you end up buying so many just to try! ;) Actually I quite enjoy having a few to choose from. Mix things up a bit from time to time. S x
Hello, and: YES! I can say the same like you! Hiyahiya are the perfect needle to me, allthough I'm a picker! Nr 1a! The cable's fine, the join is perfect, the cable nearly no memory, exept you sling them too little and lasts them long togeter. Kabonz: you must check every single needle, if it's ok! If it is I'd loved a join as the Hiyahiya. And I'd love them a little pointier. Zing: it's aluminium which can never be as fluffy as with metall as Chiaogoo or Hiyahiya. But it's ok. I hate the blunt tip! And I don't like the sound it makes while knitting! KP platinum are ok, yes, but nearly the "same old cable" as Karbonz and all of KP , so I don't knit whith them if I've a better needle. And I do have! I just put them into my fabric to park it for a while, knitting another wonderful project I want to finish first. :) Chiaogoo are the second best, my favorit directly and very close to , but after Hiyahiya, that they are Nr 1b. The cable is fantastic, but Izd hope to get it with the swivel which have the spin, the boamboos. I bought some spin - cables for my few Chiaogoos. If I hadn't bought Hiyahiya I'd have bought Chiaogoo. The Addi have a cable with too much memory, but pretty good exept the bayonet join... The join at the cabl is a bayonet and so the yarn loves to stop there! One part goes INTO the oter! There must be a different high of material! That's a No Go for me! It was my first set, so gliding, more than all exept KP. But it's , second, as shiny as KP retall and it shines into my eyes when sun is high! My absolute Nr 1 still is and stays Hiyahiya! You didn't talk about Signature which are a little bit less grabby as KP Zing, the rest is the same as KP but youemust buy a special cable ore severals in every length you might need and so it costs so much, I'd never ever do! And they aren't as well as my lovely Chiaogoo and my so beloved Hiyahia! I just boght a thimble for my right mittlefinger and it can be as sharp as it wants, I do love them most!

When the needle is so sharp, I put a band-aid around my finger where I push on the needle. It does help. Good review
Thank you!! That's a good idea! I've only been using the plaster *after* the hole has been made so far, I need to start using it as a preventative measure! ;)
